Does anyone know where you can buy single discs of DVD sets? My mom couldn't find Disc 4 of my Buffy Season 2 DVDs, and I really have no idea where it could be. It's been so long since I watched them, I'm very doubtful that I'll ever find it. And I spent $60 on it the first time I bought the set, so I really don't want to have to buy the whole set again just for 1 disc. I feel like I've heard of buying single discs before, but I just don't know where to look. So yeah, can anyone help me with this?

Anyway, yesterday sucked. I spent all day working on my take-home test for Multivariate Stats. 2-3 hours my ass. This professor is always like "This lab should only take you an hour!" or, for this test, "You should easily be able to complete it in 3 hours!" But no. I spent like 40 minutes on Thursday, an hour on Friday, and ALL DAY YESTERDAY. I think the part she doesn't understand is that her tests and labs have nothing to do with what we actually do in class, she's incredibly unclear, and we basically have to spend hours just trying to figure out what she's asking and what the code is to do whatever it is in R. gah. At least it's over. I'm pretty much dreading my grade on this. There was only like one question I was at all entirely sure of. On the plus side, she definitely likes me and kind of favors me (and she really likes how I write), so maybe that'll help? I'm kind of just hoping that everyone does horribly and she curves it like she did the last one (although those circumstances were really different, so I don't think that's likely =/).

The rest of this week isn't much better. Quiz Tuesday, take-home group Quiz due Thursday (which isn't a big deal except it means trying to figure out a time 4 people can meet and work on it and write it all up and it's just a hassle), methods and results section for RIP due Tuesday, and first draft of entire research paper for Multivariate Stats (which Li and I have pretty much done nothing for yet). ugh, I hate this week. I really wish this take-home test hadn't been pushed back a week because then I could have worked on the paper and the RIP assignment over the weekend. sigh. Have I mentioned that this semester sucks? Because it does. Only 2 1/2 weeks plus 1/2 a week of finals left.

The fact that there is new Chuck tonight is totally helping me get through all this. (Of course, if there were new TBBT and HIMYM, it would make it even better).

I am so happy last week is over in terms of school work. I'm kind of amazed I managed to finish that paper. The presentation went all right. Hopefully since we're the first group and we had only 2 weeks to do it, she'll grade more easily on us. I ended up getting a 29.25/30 on the first test in that class, which... yeah. I thought I was going to do way worse than that. This is why my study habits are becoming so terrible; even when I procrastinate like crazy and do a half-assed job, I still end up doing fine. It is positively reinforcing my terrible study habits! At a certain point, though, my studying is going to get so bad that I really will fail spectacularly. At least, in theory. I'm going to try not to test this anymore.

The rest of the weekend was good. My parents came up on Thursday. We shopped some. I ended up getting The Office Season 4 on DVD (I'm kind of amazed that I didn't already have it, because with season 2 and 3, I got them basically the second they came out), so I'm going to spend today watching them while I do my homework. Thankfully this week is way less busy than the last two (which doesn't really make sense because midterms are supposed to be these two weeks, but whatever). I also saw Burn After Reading with my parents, and I really liked it. I know the reviews are mixed about it, but I thought it was good. It started off slow, but it got better as it went on. Brad Pitt was absolutely hysterical. And the scenes with JK Simmons I thought were the funniest of the movie. It's no No Country For Old Men, but it was still worth seeing, I thought.

Fall Break is only a week and a half away. It's so weird to think that I'm going to be home in just, like, 10 days or so.

I have so much TV to catch up on from earlier this week. I will try to do this at some point.

So, today has been basically awesome in terms of classes.

First was Psych. We got put into groups for discussions and I bonded over something with this really cute guy in the class that I've talked to a couple of times before. Then when we went into full class discussion, I participated and didn't feel like an idiot about what I said (which has been the case for very other time I've participated in any class thus far).

Then in Technologies of Gender, my teacher was 10 minutes late, which is enough to be happy about on its own. And, I actually participated twice in that class, and again, didn't feel stupid about what I had said either time. And I've been really worried about this class, since the grade is determined primarily upon discussion and I haven't been participating much. Also, we had this E-Post due on Saturday about the reading for next week which would mean we'd have to do all our reading for the next week by Saturday to do this E-Post, but she realized this was idiotic and now our E-Posts are due on Wednesdays.

Finally was Astronomy, where I answered a question and he said that it was a perfect answer.

Ok, so all of this might not sound like much, but every single time I've participated in any class since they've started, everything I've said has been totally idiotic or even just wrong and I've felt like a fool and today was the first day where I didn't feel like that and like I can handle the work and won't fail all my classes.

Also good, this is the first day this week I haven't gotten a huge headache in the morning. I think that was due to stress, and today since I was feeling less stressed out, I didn't get the headache. So hopefully I'll stay somewhat relaxed.

On the downside, I was expecting to get The Office Season 3 on DVD today, but that didn't happen. But that's ok, because at least now maybe I'll do most of my work I have due for Monday today so I'll have Saturday (when it better come!) and Sunday to watch the DVDs. At least, in theory, this is what will happen.

I think I'll go to the library now and try to get some work done so I can relax the rest of the weekend (and watch DVDs! Provided they come).

Still no computer, still no idea when I'm going to get one. sigh.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I mostly got books and DVDs. I've been spending my time without a computer watching Battlestar Galactica Season 1 and Grosse Pointe Season 1, but I've finished all the episodes now.

But man, Grosse Pointe was so freaking good. I watched it when it first aired so when I was like 11 I guess, and I remember liking it then, but I wasn't sure if it was as good as I remembered. But ah, it's so hilarious. I think it's pretty much the only good comedy The WB has ever made (well, actually, I liked Maybe It's Me pretty well, but I haven't seen that in ages either, so I'm not sure), so of course it got cancelled after 17 episodes. I think I'd be ok with that if they hadn't made it like a cliffhanger ending. Well, it's not really a cliffhanger, but I really really wanted Marcy and Dave to get together, and I hated that they never got to know that they were both into each other. blah. I guess I should be thankful it came out on DVD at all.

The first season of BSG was also a lot of fun to watch, just because I'm so much more into it now than the first time I watched season 1. I still have the special features to watch on it so I think I'll do that next.

The biggest thing that's happened so far over break is that I got accepted to Colorado College, which is pretty awesome since they aren't supposed to come out until mid-January. One of the admissions directors even wrote me a hand-written note saying how much they liked my essay and were impressed by me and stuff, which I thought was really awesome that they would take the time to do that. And Colorado College isn't a safety like Lewis and Clark, so it was more exciting to get accepted there (although I might like Lewis and Clark just the slightest bit more).

But other than that, I haven't been doing much except for watching DVDs. Tomorrow I think Soan wanted to go ice-skating, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen, and we still have to do secret santa so that might happen Saturday. Then it's New Year's, and after that I'm going to Mammoth to go skiing from Tuesday to Saturday. Hopefully I'll have my computer by then, but I'm doubtful. Oh well. I'll get it eventually, I guess.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Ha! I've totally gotten my dad into The Office now (well my mom too, but I'm more impressed that I got my dad into it). Because both my parents loved the British version, but they've only seen random episodes of the U.S. version and they just thought it was pretty good, but nowhere near as great. But then I convinced them to watch Casino Night on Thursday and then both of them would stop when they walked through the family room when I was watching my DVDs and watch like half an episode and then go on with whatever they were doing, and last night my dad asked if they could watch the first disc of my DVDs since I was done with it, and now every time my dad is in the same room as me, he tells me how much better a show The Office is than he originally gave it credit for. So, yay! :D

Anyways, I finished my DVDs. Spoilers I guess for some extras on the DVD. )

Ah, 4 days until The Office season 3 premiere! This week is going to go by so slowly.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Quick update before watching DVDs.

On Wednesday I ended up having no willpower, so I watched the first two episodes of The Office with commentary (I justified that to myself by saying that watching with commentary is different than just watching the episode because I don't pay very much attention to the episode when I'm listening to the commentary) and then the first two episodes of Arrested Development. Tonight I'll hopefully finish Arrested Development and then tomorrow will be an Office marathon!

Today I had an essay on the Scarlet Letter and I think it might be one of the best essays I've written in a long time. This doesn't mean I think I'm going to get an A, because I think I'll probably still get a B because of stuff I didn't notice or whatever, but just based on my standards, I'm really happy with that essay. When I get the grade this'll all probably come crashing down, but for now, I'm happy.

Yesterday one of my birds, Caitlin, was like... wheezing and sneezing funny, so my mom took her to the vet and he thought she had a seed stuck in her trachea, so they put her under anasthesia and performed surgery on her and it turned out she had a fungal infection, and yeah, this was all very shocking to come home to considering she was fine the night before. She's all right now, she still wheezes but we're giving her medicine and it should get better. I feel so bad for her, though. She'll like try to chirp but she can't because of all that so it just comes out as this little like... wheeze or squeak, and it's just really sad. :( I hope she gets better soon.

...I think that's all I wanted to update about. I can't wait until next week, because it's major premiere week. I'm really looking forward to Studio 60 starting (well I've seen the pilot already, so not so much to this Monday, but just in general I'm looking forward to the show) and definitely The Office (I'm so excited for the new season to see how everything turns out, but nervous because I'm afraid that I won't be happy with whatever path they end up choosing) and there's also ANTM and My Name is Earl, neither of which I'm totally in love with (MNiE definitely more than ANTM, though) but I'm still happy new seasons are starting, and yeah. Yay for next week! :D

Ok, off to watch season 3 of Arrested Development!
brokenrecord: (Default)
So, I got The Office Season 2 and Arrested Development Season 3 today from Amazon.com. I've finished all my homework except finding a passage in The Scarlet Letter that reflects the Romantic movement but that isn't going to take 4 hours. So, the question is, do I leave my DVDs until the weekend, or do I start them tonight? I'm pretty sure I don't have the willpower to wait until the weekend, but I won't get very far in them tonight, and I doubt I'll have much time tomorrow to do anything because I have a calc quiz Friday and an English essay and I'm sure a million other things that will be assigned tomorrow. Ah, but I want to start them so badly! But I also don't want to start a few episodes and then have to wait two days to continue them. sigh. Decisions, decisions.

Uh, other than that, nothing much has been going on (other than lots of homework and lots of marching band) which is why I haven't been posting. I'm liking all my classes except French, which is to be expected, and even that's not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm especially liking English (even though thinking about all those essays we have yet to write freaks me out).

I've been watching Prison Break, Vanished, and House, but I haven't been posting about them because I haven't had much to say. I'm really, really loving Prison Break this season, probably more than last season. House is still good, but I'm just incapable of really getting invested in it. I do enjoy it, though. Vanished still isn't great, but I think Gale Harold has started to get more comfortable in his role by these episodes, and the episodes are improving. Heroes doesn't start for a few more weeks, so I'll at least keep watching until then. I'm still convinced it'll be cancelled soon, but then again, I have no idea what the ratings are, so it could be doing wonderfully.

I'm tired. Is first semester over yet? I can't wait until second semester.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Oh, god, I can't wait until The Office Season 2 DVDs come out. 10 commentary tracks? 2 1/2 hours of deleted scenes? A 17 minute gag real?! I hope I don't have much to do the weekend I get them, because I know I won't want to do anything but watch those DVDs.

Registration was on Monday. My Schedule )

I am 1/3 of the way through applying to all the colleges I'm planning on applying to, which makes me happy. Actually probably more, since I've done the essays for UCLA and Berkeley, you just can't submit the app until like October or November or something. But everything's done for them.

What else? Oh, yesterday after finishing uniform fittings, I went to the Woodbridge center with a bunch of people which was fun. We went to Barnes and Noble and I found The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde for $2.50 so I ended up getting it because I had wanted to read it, and come on. $2.50! How could I not get it? I'm looking forward to reading it, but I still have two summer reading books to finish first. blah.

Only three more days of band camp left! Can't wait until it's over.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Back from Minnesota! Definitely not as much fun as New York was, but I didn't really expect it to be. Not going to make a huge post about it since I really didn't do much. I went to two panels at my mom's science fiction convention which were pretty good, and I took the hotel shuttle over to the Mall of America Sunday morning and bought The Office (UK) complete series on DVD (it was 25% off! How could I resist? Let's hope I love it just as much as I love The US version. Unfortunately I have to wait to watch it until the DVD player gets hooked up properly to the new TV) and A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemmingway for summer reading (so I now have 2 of the 3 summer reading books, just need to get the last, and then actually read them all). I also got this book about Joss Whedon at the convention which was written at the start of the 7th season of Buffy (4th of Angel and 1st of Firefly, too) which was really interesting. Oh and we got to the airport ridiculously early, so I bought Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire (the author of Wicked), and I loved it. I thought it was even better than Wicked (the book, not the musical. I love the musical more than almost anything).

This morning we visited Macalester, and the tour didn't make me like the school any more or any less, which kind of sucks, since the weekend was so lackluster that I was hoping it'd be either really amazing or really crappy so it would at least be worth it. Oh well.

That was honestly all I did. I watched television pretty much every other minute, since there was really nothing else to do.

Oh but on uh... Sunday night I think, I went out to dinner with my mom and two of her friends from the convention, and we went to the craziest place ever. I still can't figure out what sort of cuisine it was supposed to be. It was called the Atlantic Buffet and it stated it had Chinese food and Mongolian cuisine, so we figured it'd be all Asian food. But then we went in and looked at all the stuff the buffet had, and it was crazy. It had a lot of Asian food (not just Chinese food and Mongolian, but also Japanese and possibly Korean), but it also had random stuff. There was slices of pizza, garlic bread, chicken nuggets, jello, ice cream, cake, apple pie, lasagna. I mean, really. It was just ridiculous.

Um, yeah. So that's about it. No pictures, since I didn't leave the hotel room much until today, and I didn't feel like taking pictures at Macalester. Now I've got about a week to rest (and start summer assignments/summer reading and essay supplements I have due on Wednesday) and then band camp starts next week, and then school three weeks after that. sigh. Where did the summer go? :(
brokenrecord: (Default)
I think it finally sunk in that Everwood's cancelled after the episode last night. I thought it was a great episode and it just reminded me of season 1 and how much I loved it then and how much I still love it and how upset I am that it's going. Right after the episode was over, I went on BarnesandNoble.com and ordered the season 1 DVDs because I was getting all nostalgic and I haven't seen season 1 in forever and I love it so much. This show is too freaking good to be cancelled. gah. It's not fair.

Anyways. Today after school but before Symphony, Emma, Jackie, Galaxy, and I decided to go to the beach again. We didn't go to Corona Del Mar like Sunday since parking would be a bitch, so we went to Crystal Cove instead. Ah, so pretty. Pictures! Not as many as before, but still a good amount. )

Today we also had our last essay ever this year. Such a relief to be done. No more essays unti like September! I don't think I did too badly, so hopefully this essay won't ruin the A- I'm barely hanging on to. Mrs. Moore also finally returned from her maternity leave today, thankfully. So awesome to have her back.

Tomorrow is probably not much fun (but then, this whole week is not much fun). 1st period I finally present that film project with Seher (gah I better get an A+++++ for all the stress this project has caused me), after school is jazz band with the composer of a couple of the pieces we're playing, Jeff Jarvis, which in itself isn't bad, but it is bad that that means I won't get home until 4:45ish and at like... 7:00 or something is freshman, sophomore, and junior awards and I have to dress up and attend that. blah. Too busy.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Happy birthday to me. :)

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! I appreciate it more than you can possibly know.

Today was excellent. I went to see Brokeback Mountain at 12:30 with Galaxy, Emma, Soan, and Zi. I don't know about Zi, but Galaxy, Emma, and Soan all really liked it. Then Galaxy and Zi left and then Soan and Emma and I somehow hung out at Fashion Island for 2 hours. At one point we went to Barnes and Noble and I got About a Boy by Nick Hornby because I wanted to read more stuff by him. We also had excellent gelato! And then we went to Emma's house and we went to Blockbuster and rented Four Weddings and a Funeral and this Family Guy thing, but after we got back we had dinner and then Justin and Andrew came over and we played Cranium which was fun. So yeah, it was a very fun day.

The birthday haul )

So yeah. In all, an awesome birthday, and decidedly better than last year. (Though, it would be hard to be worse than last year, considering this year I actually got presents from friends and last year only 2 people remembered my birthday.)
brokenrecord: (Default)
Christmas was very nice. :) My aunt and her boyfriend/roommate (I'm not entirely sure which. Each time I think I have their relationship figured out, someone ends up confusing me again) came over and my aunt gave me a nice gray fleece sweatshirt. Dinner was very good too, although I ate entirely too much of it.

Oh, and I totally forgot to mention in my earlier excitement that one of the presents my dad got my mom was one of those robot vacuum cleaners, like what Lucille got to replace Lupe on Arrested Development (in fact, when my mom opened it I mentioned to them that what it reminded me of at first was when they first get it and it goes near Buster and beeps and he's all "Oh, you're hungry" and feeds it like... some sort of snack"). It's so amusing. My dad says we should name it, and I want to name it Buster, but it is my mom's, so she'll probably end up deciding.

I've watched Monty Python and Nightmare Before Christmas (both of which I really like, but I already knew that) and listened to both CDs I got (the one my mom made me is actually really good. She has good taste in music) and started the book of Weekly World News (which is so far very amusing), so I think now I'll watch Moulin Rouge. I'll start Dead Like Me either tomorrow or Tuesday. And tomorrow we're going to start looking for a car! wheee, so excited. :D

I hope everyone's day was excellent, whether they celebrate Christmas or not. :)
brokenrecord: (Default)
Ah! Both the Veronica Mars and Arrested Development Season 2 DVDs came today! [is happy] The AD DVDs weren't even scheduled to come until like October 18! I think I'll watch the VM ones first since I saw all the eps in repeat of season 2 of AD over the summer and my parents need to catch up on AD before it comes back from hiatus so they can start watching the eps as they air rather than waiting for the DVDs.

I got a 92 on the Euro essay I wrote last week in class! Awesome. I thought I was going to get a C or B. And he curved the tests, so now I have a 84.6 rather than an 80. wheee. Imagine how well I could do if I actually studied. It would be insane.

We also got updated English grades: I got a 91 on the unit test, and that brought my grade up to a 78 or 79, which is a B! And it's teetering on the edge of a B+! I'm so happy. No worry about getting a C on the progress reports anymore! ...of course, I already told my mom I'd possibly be getting a C+ yesterday, but whatever.

There was a marching sectional for saxophones today after marching band, but I didn't go because A) I didn't find out about it until 5th period, B) I was having cramps on and off, and C) my foot where I injured it Monday was starting to hurt again by the end of practice. Like, it wasn't seriously hurting, but it was starting to feel stressed, and I knew if I marched for too much longer it would start hurting a lot more.

Aw, man, now I want to watch my DVDs.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Bah. I do not have my Veronica Mars DVDs yet. It seems like they're scheduled to arrive tomorrow. But I ordered them July 28th! I think they should be here by now.

I also do not have my Arrested Development DVDs, but I just ordered those Sunday, so it's not as frustrating that they're not here yet.

I got a 80% on the multiple choice test we took last Friday in Euro. eep. But he said he's going to base it on a curve, so it should go up some. Perhaps I should start studying for Euro.

Also, Mr. Austerman told me today that there's a part for this one piece they're doing in Symphony for tenor sax, so I get to do Symphony temporarily. Pretty cool. I don't get any credit for it, but it'll still be fun. I don't have to go every week, either, only when they work on that one piece, so it's good.

Yeah, so I've been a really horrible LJ friend recently, but I just kind of got into a funk where I didn't feel like doing anything but lying on my bed and reading and ignoring the rest of the world. Hopefully I'll be better about this this week.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Watched more Felicity this morning. It's taking forever to finish, I still have a lot left. Usually when I buy DVDs I watch like 6 or 7 on the Saturday I get them and the next day I finish them, but I haven't had a chance to finish them all in one go. I believe I have about 5 or 6 left, don't know if I'll be able to finish them tonight.

Finally posted some icons. I was going to wait until I finished a Buffy set I had started, but I just wanted to get these icons posted, since I haven't posted anything in awhile.

Went to SAT class at 4. Richard was there even though he wasn't at the diagnostic test last Saturday. The class was 3 hours long and I expected it to drag by, but it actually wasn't too bad. I like the guy who's teaching us. Only bad thing is that we get homework assigned. blech. I found out that I got a 2050 on the diagnostic test I took, which isn't bad at all. Especially because my goal is a 2100 or above, and they claim to be able to raise your score at least 50 points in each area. I got a 9 on the essay part which is good, especially since they said the positives were that I chose good examples and I analyzed them well, and the only negative they said was that my handwriting got too hard to read. That's a much easier thing to fix, I think.

Hm. I apologize for not being as insane and random as I claimed in that post a few days ago when I stated that I'd be moving from my blog to LJ. I think once I get more comfortable posting here, I'll post more randomly. We shall see.

All right. I think I shall attempt to finish the rest of the DVDs tonight. I should probably do the SAT hw tonight, but I'll leave it for tomorrow morning.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Morning wasn't so fun, as I had to wake up early (on my second day of summer break, no less) to take a diagnostic test for the SAT for this SAT class I'm taking which was very long and tiring, but the afternoon was awesome. I went to spectrum with Annie (my closest friend who goes to a different high school than me whom I haven't seen in months) and bought a bunch of CDs and DVDs. I was going to get seasons 1 and 4 of Buffy at Barnes and Noble since I have 2, 3, and 5, and have had the urge recently to have a Buffy marathon (I don't care for seasons 6 and 7 as much, so I don't care too much about having them for the marathon watching of Buffy) and I still have gift cards for there from Christmas and my birthday (which was in January), but then it turned out that they were having a "Buy 2 DVDs, get the third free" so I spent about 15 min trying to decide what to get. I finally decided on Felicity season 2. I think I'll start Felicity tonight and wait on the Buffy marathon. The CDs I got were the new Weezer, the new Garbage, the new Starting Line, the new Alkaline Trio, and the new Motion City Soundtrack, all of which I've been wanting to get for the longest time, but haven't had time to what with school.

Yes. It was awesome seeing Annie again. Hopefully the next time I get to see her won't be in another 3 months. She molested my boob, though! She claims it was an accident, but after that, she also admitted that she was a "mean, lean, molesting machine." Insanity.

But yes. It was a fun day. Going to Andrew's tomorrow with a bunch of people and playing DDR and such. Summer is so awesome, so glad it's finally arrived.

I really need to make some icons. I have a bunch sitting on my computer from the past week or so (...when I should've been studying for finals, but instead decided making icons was far more important), but I haven't gotten around to making enough in any one fandom to post them. bleh. Soon, hopefully.

All right. DVD-watching time.
