Random thing I totally forgot to mention: so in Cognitive Psych on Friday, we were in groups discussing these articles that we had also discussed on Wednesday, and my group only had one question left to discuss so we finished really early while everyone else was still discussing. So we had a bunch of time just sitting around waiting for everyone else to finish up, and somehow (I have absolutely no idea how, and it totally wasn't me who brought it up. And I had never met or talked to any of the people in my group before) we ended up discussing how much better Harry Potter is than Twilight but how the epilogue of HP kind of sucked and how it was pretty much J. K. Rowling screwing over non-Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione shippers. And I brought up Harry/Hermione, but someone else entirely brought up Harry/Draco, and another person brought up how J. K. Rowling's intention was probably "Haha, now no one can write fanfiction for immediately after book 7!" It's always really weird to me when people in real life know what fanfic is! But I found that really amusing, particularly since one of the people discussing this was a football player. That was pretty much the most fun part of my Friday.

I've been thinking a lot about grad school and what the hell I'm going to do after I graduate. Thoughts about post-college and careers and such )

Anyways, on a lighter note, I've seen this meme going around, and I think it'd be fun to do! Comment with any of my fandoms (you can list any that are in my info, and if you think you remember me talking about another fandom recently that isn't in there (especially if it's a new fandom since I haven't updated my info in a few months), you could ask that, too), and I'll tell you, for that fandom, my:
- OTP
- Runner-up
- Honorable mention(s)
- Crack pairing(s)
- Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't

Now I should really start studying for my German test and try to get some work done before Wind Ensemble.

I just checked my rewards points on my credit card on a whim because I was bored and trying to waste time, and I actually had enough to get a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble! Very cool! I wasn't expecting to be able to ever actually get anything through their rewards program.

Registration for classes is on Thursday. Originally I was planning on waiting until next semester to talk to someone in the math department about double majoring in psych and applied mathematics, but I think I need to talk to someone before I register. =/ Because if it turns out I can't take certain classes over the summer at UCI, I'm going to need to take at least one next semester. ugh. I went to my Multivariable Calc professor's office at 2:00 and there was someone in there talking to him and I had class at 3:00 and she was still in there talking to him at 2:50. So I decided to check after class, and he wasn't there anymore. And I don't even know that he can help me because applied math is a really new major (I think this is actually the first year it's an option) and he was retired and he just came back for this year. So he might just end up telling me to talk to someone else. But I'll camp out in front of his office right after Research in Psych and hopefully he'll have time before I have class at 2:20. It shouldn't take too long because I just have a few questions. Unfortunately if he can't answer them, I don't know that I'll have time to talk to anyone else. We'll see, I guess.

In happier news, Thanksgiving is only 2 1/2 weeks away! I'm going to be flying back home two weeks from tomorrow. How crazy. It doesn't really feel that long since I last was home. And then there's only a week and then finals and then I'm home again. I need to figure out when I'm flying back, though, for winter break. I'm not entirely sure which classes I have finals in and when they are. I think I'll be done so I can fly home Wednesday, but there's a chance that I might be able to leave Monday, which would be awesome.

Anyways, have a TV meme: meme )

I think I'm going to picspam my favorite season finales ever for the [livejournal.com profile] picspammy challenge this month. (I'm actually way less busy this month than last month, which is really weird. I have nothing due for the rest of this week, and I only have a German test a week from Friday, and German tests are easy and don't take much time to study for.) I'm just mentioning it because saying it will make me feel like I have to do it so then I'll actually do it. And maybe I'll get around to organizing my room tonight. My posters keep falling off the walls. I need to put them back up and rearrange them. And then maybe I'll FINALLY post pictures of my room, because I said I was going to do that back in August. Ok, now that I've said all this, hopefully I'll do it!

(The margin Coleman's ahead of Franken is now down to 206! God I really hope Franken wins!)

...it snowed yesterday. What the hell? This is the last weekend of April! It will be May very shortly! How can it still be acting like it's winter?!

Anyways, now that I've gotten to relax for a day or so, I get to freak out about my film paper that's due Thursday. It's 2000 words, which isn't too terrible, but... I've also never written a paper like this before. ugh. And it's 35% of my grade, which seems ridiculously high to me. And I really should have worked on it Friday and Saturday, but I didn't. God, can this semester just be over already? At least the days left are down to single digits, now. (Well, only counting until classes are over. I will have a 4-page paper to write due Thursday, but that's not too big of a deal, although I'm sure I'll freak out about it when I get to that point.) My mom's going to arrive around noon on May 8th (my dad's in the middle of a trial so he can't come) and we'll be going back on May 10th, leaving a few days to pack up my stuff and deloft my bed and all that. I'll probably end up staying at the hotel with her during those couple nights. I cannot wait until then.

Anyways, tagged by [livejournal.com profile] lulu99:
Name ten fictional characters you'd sleep with in no particular order, and then tag five others.
1. Jim Halpert (The Office US)
2. John Crichton (Farscape)
3. Ten (Doctor Who)
4. Pacey Witter (Dawson's Creek)
5. Ned (Pushing Daisies)
6. Mal Reynolds (Firefly)
7. Ben Covington (Felicity)
8. Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars)
9. Michael Bluth (Arrested Development)
10. Dexter Morgan (Dexter)

I can't remember who's done this meme, so just do it if you want to!

Today was registration for classes next semester! Fall 2008 Class Schedule )

Anyways, decided to stop watching My Name Is Earl. I don't know that anyone on my flist actually still watches MNIE anymore. It was good for awhile, but this season has just been really eh, especially since the return from the strike. I was already considering dropping it, but now that 30 Rock is after The Office, I feel like I would have to make an extra effort to watch it, and I just don't care enough to.

Finally, answers to the truth and lies meme from earlier this week! Truth and Lies Meme Answers )
brokenrecord: (Default)
Heh, I totally overheard this conversation at breakfast:

Girl: [talking about English class] Yeah, the professor started the first class with the words "Let's go" on the board, and now the last words of this play we're reading are "Let's go."
Guy: What play?
Girl: Oh, it's this short play about these two guys... what is it called?
Girl 2: [apparently also in class] Waiting for Godot.
Girl: Right! By William Beckett.
Girl 2: Samuel Beckett.
Girl: Oh, right. Why did I think William?

This is only so amusing because that EXACT SAME NAME MIX-UP happened to me last Thursday, as I already mentioned. I don't think this girl was confusing the names because of The Academy Is...'s lead singer, but I still found it amusing.

Meme time! Eight truths, two lies )

Anyways, I still haven't started my English paper (due Thursday), started studying for my Drugs and Society test (Wednesday), or finished studying for the film vocab test (tomorrow!). ugh. So, time to do some work, I suppose.
brokenrecord: (Default)
I stayed away from my computer yesterday since I was studying pretty much non-stop for the test I had today, which was not fun. I pretty much lived in the library yesterday (and, I mean, I like the library, but it's obviously more fun to be in my room on my computer than studying for hours in the library). But it's over with now, and it's one less major thing I have left to do this semester. Now that Monday and Tuesday are done with, I'm feeling much more relaxed. This will probably last until Friday, when I have to study for my Film Analysis vocab test (there are 10 words on the test we have to define out of a hundred possible terms from the glossary of our book. And I know none of them. ugh. Like, it won't be hard to do well on the test, it's just incredibly time-consuming, which sucks), Drugs and Society test (this one isn't as bad since a quarter of the test is on psychotherapeutic drugs and... I'm in abnormal psych right now so I know what drugs are used to treat depression and schizophrenia and the side effects of the drugs and what neurotransmitters they act on and all that), and English paper (8 pages, due a week from tomorrow, don't have a topic yet. Awesome).

This week is both the last week of Wind Ensemble and my psych discussion group. It sucks because, as I've repeatedly mentioned, I love my psych discussion group, and I like Wind Ensemble a good amount (I mean, obviously, or else I wouldn't be doing it). But that'll free up 6-7 hours each week, which will be especially necessary next week when I have a million things to do. And both of those being over for the semester means that the semester is very close to being over, which is awesome.

I haven't watched the Skins finale yet. I have no idea when that's going to happen. blah. The same goes for whatever other TV shows are new this week and the next few weeks. I'll definitely be watching Battlestar Galactica, just because... what else am I going to be doing from midnight to 1 AM on Friday night/Saturday morning? And Doctor Who, since I don't have the willpower to work all day long on a Saturday. I never did schoolwork on Saturdays in high school (except maybe the weekend before finals), so I still have a hard time adjusting to having to do work on Saturdays so I don't want to kill myself Sunday/during the week when I have a lot of work to do. But I'm not sure about the rest. We'll see.

Today is the first day since October I've worn short sleeves outside in Minnesota. I'm trying not to get too excited about it since it was sleeting and awful last week, and the weather keeps teasing me. Still, it's nice for today.

Lastly, handwriting meme. I've been meaning to do it for awhile, so... there it is! Exciting.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Ugh. I've just kind of felt like crap for the past few days. My abstract film is due a week from today, and it's just stressing me out ridiculous amounts. I tried all weekend to come up with an idea and I just couldn't figure out anything. I finally just thought of something this morning and developed it and I talked it over with my professor and it seems like it'll work? Except it seems kind of basic and obvious and boring. But at this point, I don't really care. When I was talking to him, he was like "It seems like you're really stressed out about this" and I was like "Well, yeah. This is like one of my least favorite things to do" (ok, I didn't quite say that, but I said that I've always disliked making films) and he was like "Don't be stressed! This is supposed to be fun! Now I can understand stressing out about the paper..." and then I was like "Oh no, I'm stressed out about that too. You just haven't assigned that yet, so I'm prioritizing stressing out over the film." But he said he can talk to me about the paper when he assigns it and get me less stressed out about that too, which would be good. I just hate the rest of this semester. There is just so much crap left. And I have this list of all the stuff I'm worried about, all the major assignments I have left in the semester, and after 2 weeks, I've crossed out 2 out of 12. And the two things I was probably less stressed about than anything else. I just need this semester to be over now. Thinking about the next 4 weeks makes me feel like throwing up.

Anyways, meme time to get me to stop stressing out for a few minutes and just relax and such. This is the meme about usernames and journal titles and all that.

Meme )

Ok, now I'm going to watch Skins and then go to dinner and then maybe get some work done before my psych discussion group (we're watching Who's Eating Gilbert Grape tonight which I've been wanting to see for ages, so I'm really excited about that).

Finally! The photo meme! Image-heavy (obviously).

Ok so there's this Prison Break spoiler going around for next season and I really need to post about it. Prison Break )

I watched last night's episodes of Miss Guided, and I'm really enjoying that show so much more than I thought I would. It really sucks that there are only two episodes left. I hope it's picked up for next year, but I'm not very optimistic. I also read that The Return of Jezebel James was canceled which... yeah. Not very surprising. I'm almost surprised Fox aired as much as it did (an entire 3 episodes). Not very disappointed, other than not having Michael Arden on my screen every week anymore. But the rest of the show was just a chore to get through, so whatever. Not a huge loss.

Anyone else want to give me Top 5s? I want to make images to go with them, so I probably won't post them until tomorrow, so if you feel like giving me more top 5s, that would be awesome.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Ugh ok I really have nothing to say, but I already didn't post yesterday, and I'm afraid not posting 2 days in a row will lead me to return to only posting like once a week and I like being more involved in LJ and such. But anyways, here's a meme, so I have something to post about:

Comment to this post with a Top Five you would like to see me post about (with pictures, if applicable), and I will post it in my next post. Feel free to give me multiple lists to do!

It would be awesome if you'd ask for stuff! Especially because it'll give me a reason to procrastinate writing my 2-page reaction paper for my abnormal psych group that's due tonight (when I also have class in half an hour for 2 1/2 hours and I wanted to go to this psychology career talk thing from 7-8:30 and it's due at 8:30). Clearly I need MORE things to do. That makes the most sense.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Shipper Meme! )

Listening to the Pretty. Odd. leak, and it's awesome. I can't wait to actually own the album.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Hope everyone had a fun St. Patrick's Day. Mine consisted of seeing Atonement with my mom for the second time (it was her first time, and she really enjoyed it). It was somehow even more gorgeous (in terms of cinematography and how it was shot) the second time, even though I thought it was ridiculously beautiful the first time I saw it. And I really need the soundtrack.

Anyways, time for me to finally answer that "Tell me what to blog about meme." Meme answer! )

I thought I'd be better about coming up with things to post about during spring break without all my distractions from school and such, but... my mind's just kind of gone blank. Oh well. I'm enjoying being able to relax.

Oh, question: I've seen that thing about not posting in a 24 hour period because of LJ being ridiculous about the basic accounts and such. What day is that supposed to be? Because I saw for a day or two people saying Wednesday, and recently I've seen people saying Friday, so was there a post somewhere I missed about pushing it back until Friday? Or is it all disorganized and half the people participating in this are going to do it Wednesday and half on Friday? It'd be awesome if anyone could tell me for sure.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Everyone's already talked about Deathly Hallows being split up into 2 movies, so I figured I'd give my two cents. I'm... cautiously optimistic, I guess? I'm hoping this means that they'll be able to include more details than they're normally able to, and that they'll be able to give all the elements of the story more attention, if that makes any sense. Honestly, seeing the news, my first thought was just "The second film will be out in May of 2011? I WILL HAVE GRADUATED COLLEGE FROM THEN. CANNOT FATHOM." It's just really weird to think about, considering I'm going to be in such a different place then from now. I mean, if you go back three years ago, I was at the end of sophomore year, and I was in a pretty similar place then that I am now. Besides the whole living in St. Paul and going to college thing, I had mostly the same friends (they weren't as good friends then for the most part, but still) and same interests and had no idea what I wanted to do with my future. I don't know. I just can't really imagine what my life is going to be like then. I'm going to have to be a grown-up and get a job. Weird.

(Yes, I can manage to turn something fandom-y and not related to me at all into something ALL ABOUT ME. It is a skill.)

Anyways. Meme time, again! I don't expect that a lot of people will participate in this, but... I'd really appreciate it if you would? It seems like a really different meme from normal, and I think it would be fun to do.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.
brokenrecord: (Default)
So, I'm eating dinner in the Campus Center last night, and Michael Jackson comes on AGAIN and people groan, and then I hear this:

Random guy: Why does everyone hate Michael Jackson? Because he's a pedophile? Lots of people are pedophiles!

...right. And I'm not fans of any of them, either. Seriously, just... I couldn't believe I actually heard that. I want to believe that he was being sarcastic and I don't know him and don't understand his sense of humor, or something, but then he went on to say "You know, there are a lot of great MJs. Michael Jackson. Michael Jordan. Michael Johnson." (By Michael Johnson, I'm pretty sure he meant Magic Johnson, because he said that he was a really good basket ball player for the Lakers who got HIV. And his real name is actually Earvin Johnson, but whatever.) So it didn't seem like he was joking. Just... what? Who says that?

Anyways. Meme time again! Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] anna_bo_banna:
Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions:

01. What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
02. Is he/she important to the general plot?
03. Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
04. How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
05. Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
06. Is there anything about the character you would change?
07. If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
08. Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
09. Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
10. Is this character popular with the fanbase?

Lastly, any more takers for my photo meme? I'm probably going to do the pictures I have to do at school on Wednesday since it's supposed to be in the low 40s (lskjfd 40s! Above freezing! This sounds so warm to me, you have no idea) and I'll be able to go outside for long periods of time and not freeze to death, so I figured I'd give one last reminder now.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Apparently the WB is coming back in some form on-line? Kind of weird, but if it means there's somewhere I can watch Everwood, then that's awesome (especially since only season 1 of Everwood is on DVD, and it's unlikely the other seasons will go on DVD anytime soon).

Anyways, I have nothing really to say, since I have two tests this week (including an essay test. Ugh, I hate in-class essays so much. The last one went better than I expected, but I'm still dreading this one) and several other assignments, so I'm probably going to be doing a lot of memes or really short posts. Speaking of memes:

The Unpopular Opinions Meme
01. Post this on your journal.
02. Your friends will comment with some of your fandoms.
03. In a new post (or in comments) respond back with one or two of your unpopular opinions for that fandom

I have a list of all the shows I've watched in my profile (kind of long to list here). You can also ask for bandom-related stuff, if you'd like. If you choose fandoms I've mentioned more in my journal, I'll probably be more likely to have unpopular opinions, but I can try for other fandoms as well.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Ok, so the group thing I was freaking out about last night was last night, and I got worried for no reason. I seriously need to stop doing that. I worry about things way out of proportion to how like... serious they actually are. Because even if I had missed it, two other people didn't show up (this is a group of 7), so it's not like I would've been the only one, and anyways, what are they going to do? I seriously just need to relax. I've actually gotten better about it than I used to be, but I still worry about things way too much.

Anyways. I've barely used my camera since I got it for Christmas, and I really want to, so photo meme! Give me things to take pictures of, and I will! Ask me for as many as you want (especially since I don't expect many people to request pictures, although I'd really love it if everyone asked me to take a photo of something). It can be really specific, like take a picture of my DVD collection, or general, like take a picture of something green. Since I'm going to be home a week from Friday, it can also be stuff from school, like a picture of my dorm room, or from home, like pictures of my birds (I haven't posted pictures of them in, like, years. Literally. So I might actually picspam them anyways). Please ask for photos! It would make me really happy. :D

I really, really have to write my small two reaction papers that are due tomorrow and Friday and start studying for my Drugs and Society test. I hate how when I start having actual schoolwork to do, there's no room in my brain for fandom-related thinking, and so I never have anything interesting to say. I look forward to Friday, where I'll have a day when I can relax (before having to start studying like crazy for my abnormal psych test and my Film Analysis essay test. I hate next week).
brokenrecord: (Default)
Ugh this girl in my abnormal psych class annoys me SO MUCH because she keeps like... I don't even know how to describe it. Like, we'll be discussing something like asylums and how terrible they were and Bedlam and all that stuff and then she'll raise her hand and the professor will call on her and she'll start talking about how she has issues with asylums and in her medical anthropology class they discussed how terrible asylums were and it's like... THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW. YOU'RE JUST REPEATING WHAT WAS ALREADY SAID. YOU AREN'T CONTRIBUTING ANYTHING. It's so annoying. I don't mind questions or like... helpful contributions, but this is just... saying the same stuff again. Except she talks really slowly and somehow manages to drag it out for like 5 minutes and ugh. And she keeps bringing up her medical anthropology class and it's like... if I wanted to know what you did in medical anthropology, I would take that class myself! gah.

Anyways, something on a positive note, taking my Drugs and Society test today was so cool. There were these scantron sheets for the multiple choice, except they weren't normal scantron sheets where you mark an answer in pencil and then it gets scored by a machine later. Instead, these were like... those scratch lotto cards where you scratch off an answer, it reveals a star if you're right and nothing if you're wrong. And if you're wrong the first time, you can keep scratching until you find the right answer. You get 1 point if you get it on the first try, half a point if you get it on the second, a quarter of a point if you get it on the third, and zero if it takes scratching off all four choices before you get the right answer. He said it wanted to be a learning device so you would see what you were getting right and what was wrong while you take the test and not a week later when you've forgotten everything. It was really cool (at least, in my opinion). And from that, I know that I got 45.25/50 on the multiple choice. Pretty good, considering I didn't end up actually studying for the test (I realized we could drop our lowest test score, so... I just kind of didn't study). The short answer was really easy, too, so I should be getting at least an A- on this test.

So this was going around like a month ago, but I feel like doing it now, so here we go: Icon Meme! )

I watched the two episodes of Torchwood and I'm going to post about them probably, but first I'm going to watch last night's episode of Eli Stone, the last two weeks of Lost, and the last three weeks of Supernatural (all of which I also may or may not post about).
brokenrecord: (Default)
The Office last night made me squee with joy. :D I love this show so much. I watched The O.C. and Ugly Betty this afternoon, and I also loved them. Thursday night TV is clearly the best.
