So, my DVD player isn't going to be working properly until Saturday at the soonest, but I was bitching to my mother enough about it that she told me just to watch my DVDs on her TV in her bedroom. Since the series isn't that long, I managed to finish it all.
I can't really say if I like the UK or US version more, because they're actually really different. I mean, after the first episode of the US version they use a couple of the same like plot points and stuff through early season 2, but after that they really break away from the UK version, and it's just an entirely different show. If I saw the UK version first, I think I might like it more, but... well, I didn't, and I'm already in love with the US version, so I'm not going to start loving the US version less.
I mean, even the characters are pretty different. The only ones who are really pretty much the same are Jim and Tim (and even then, they do have small differences). Everyone else I see much larger differences. I think Dwight is more obnoxiously weird than Gareth. For some reason Gareth is a lot more sympathetic to me, and I don't really know why, but he is. I mean, I love Dwight and all, but yeah. Michael is a lot more... human, I guess, than David. And he has moments of intelligence, where you're like "Ok, I guess I can see why he would've been hired in the first place" and there are moments like in Booze Cruise when he's with Jim and tells him to not give up and all that he's just... a really good person, whereas David doesn't have those moments. Even Pam and Dawn are pretty different. I think Pam shows her feelings for Jim a lot more than Dawn does for Tim. Dawn, you're not entirely sure if she really feels the same way as Tim, except maybe at the very end of the second series with the kiss (er, the one for a pound, not the Christmas special kiss) and the jealousy towards Rachel and all. I think Pam's a lot more obvious.
I do like that the UK version is a lot shorter and so there aren't really any filler episodes. The story is told very well and works for that amount of time. I don't know, I just like it. On the other hand, though, I think that part of the reason that I do really like the US version is that it's already had a lot more episodes so there are just a lot more episodes for me to get into it, I guess. Because for me, I thought the show was all right after the first episode, but then it just got better and better with every episode I watched, and if it hadn't had as many episodes as it did, I might not have ended up liking it as much as I do.
Also, I like with the U.S. version that you know everyone in the office, not just Jim, Pam, Michael, and Dwight. All the characters have been given backgrounds and storylines of their own. I think part of it is again that the UK show didn't have as many episodes, so there wasn't as much time to get into showing all the other people in the office. But still, I do like that the viewer knows everyone in the office and they all have their own stories.
Um, what else? Oh! It was really fun spotting the actors on The Office who were also on Green Wing. There was Boyce! Hee! I found it funny that Oliver Chris and Sally Bretton's characters had a relationship both on Green Wing and The Office. And there was Harriet! I loved her on Green Wing.
So, yeah. I guess that's about it. I really did love the show, but it's just hard to compare to the US version. I love them both, just each in their own way.
