Ugh, I am a total failure in getting things done this weekend. I got obsessed with True Blood, and even though I finished watching it on Saturday afternoon, it was basically all I wanted to think about for the rest of the day and for Sunday, so it was hard getting myself to actually do anything. I really shouldn't have started it on Friday because I knew I didn't need something distracting myself from getting stuff done this weekend, but in my defense, I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. I was going to just watch the first episode and then decide if I wanted to see any more at some point, but I got so hooked after the first that I had to keep watching.

But in any case, here are my thoughts on the show!
First of all, I am so in love with the credits, it's ridiculous. If I did that top credits meme I did last spring again, this would make it for sure, and probably also be #1. It's just amazing. The credits fit the show so much in every way. They're so exactly what this show is about. And the music is ridiculously catchy and perfect, and as a whole they're just entirely beautiful. And really, I hate how so many shows these days have no credits at all, so every time a show does have credits, it endears me to the show. And when the credits are this ridiculously amazing, well. I just love the show that much more.

I kind of love all the characters. I also kind of hate all the characters. It's kind of awesome. Nobody's even close to perfect, but there's redeeming qualities in everyone (well, all the main characters. Not so much people like Malcolm and Liam and the Rats and all that).

I love Sookie. She's basically adorable and totally kick-ass. I love how she saves Bill from the Rats in the first episode. She can be an idiot at times and get kind of annoying (mostly in the ninth episode I noticed this), but I can't help but totally love her. I love how excited she is over meeting a vampire for the first time, and then that novelty starts to wear off and she has to think about things more practically. (But then she's too in love with him and can't help but go back to him anyways.)

I love Bill. I was a little unsure of him at first, but I loved him in the second episode what with him saving her life and asking her if talking to her grandmother would make her happy. My favorite episode for Bill (so far) is definitely the fourth episode, where even though she's kind of dumped him, he's all flirty and charming with her. He has more of a personality in that episode (even though I still love him before that). I love when he kind of turns on the charm, like when meeting Adele for the first time and when talking to her club. And I love the contrast between that and how he is with Sookie, especially in the beginning, where he's kind of awkward and unsure, but totally himself.

I ship them ridiculously, if it isn't clear. I like that they both make each other feel normal. I love how much they love each other. I love how protective they are of each other.

Now on to the rest. My favorite characters besides Bill and Sookie are Adele, Hoyt, Terry, and Rene. I was so upset when Adele died, because she was so awesome, and I loved how accepting she was of Bill, and how she totally kept pushing Sookie to be with Bill. It's probably not a coincidence that all of these characters happen to be tolerant of vampires and have some moment (such as Terry hugging Bill after his talk) where they seem to really accept vampires. And they're all sweet, in their own ways.

Jason took some time to warm to. Mostly because I was tired of every scene he was in being him screwing some girl. Seriously, Jason's penis is totally its own character on this show. And I didn't like how he was so against vampires. But I liked him kind of warming to Eddie and getting him the Tru-Blood, and I love all his scenes with Lafayette. Lafayette also took a little while, mostly because I wasn't really sure what his character was about after the first few episodes. But he's pretty hilarious, and like I said, his scenes with Jason are the best.

Tara I didn't really like at first. She was kind of annoying. But I basically love her now. I think I truly started liking her in the second episode, when she was lying on Jason and getting her hopes up, and then Jason realized he had to go pick up Dawn, and she kind of laughed to herself after he left and was like "Shit." I guess I just felt for her in that moment. She's pretty kick-ass. There needs to be more friendship scenes between her and Sookie, because after the funeral episode, they started being around each other much less. I guess that was partly because of her dealing with her mother's demon and all that. I wasn't a huge fan of that storyline because it just went on too long. But I still pretty much love her now.

Sam I'm still kind of unsure of. I liked him at first, then I started not really liking him when he got all creepy in that episode he and Sookie had their date, then I liked him more. I don't know. The less he's into Sookie, the more I like him, I think. I totally called that he was a shapeshifter in the beginning of the second (or was it third?) episode with the dog watching Sookie get beat up by the Rats, but then when they had the scene a few episodes later with Sam patting the dog, I was like "Wait, so he's not the dog? Wtf?" But then the signs were just overwhelming that he was the dog, so I was basically entirely confused until they confirmed that he was a shapeshifter and that he had to have a reference around to shift into whatever it was.

But seriously, all of this reminds me ridiculously of Twilight. (I'm not saying that they copied Twilight because I believe the books that the show is based on were written several years before that, and it's not like Twilight is incredibly original itself. Just saying that there are loads of similarities.) I mean, first you have the mortal girl and vampire guy and they're in love and one of them can read minds but can't read the mind of the other (although in True Blood I guess Sookie can't read the mind of any vampire, whereas Edward only can't read Bella's mind). Then you have the best friend of the girl who's totally in love with her but has his own secret of being able to shapeshift (in one case into a wolf, the other into pretty much anything, but generally a dog because it's easiest). Let's just hope that (spoilers for Twilight series!) Sookie doesn't have a magical vampire baby with Bill that Sam subsequently falls in love with.

I actually don't totally hate Sookie and Sam together even though I ship her with Bill so much. When he's not being creepy and weird and mean to Bill, I like him. They were pretty sweet together in last night's episode. But I definitely want her with Bill in the end. Ugh, it sucks that next week is the finale. I'm not ready for this season to be over. :(
