I am halfway through season 2 of Angel in my rewatch (which I did finally decide to do after planning to for like over a year), and I have random thoughts!

Most people seem to focus on seasons 3-5 of Angel when they talk about the show (maybe because of Fred and Wesley/Fred, or because of Spike in season 5 or... I don't know), but I really like seasons 1 and 2. Especially season 2. I just love everything about the whole Angelus/Darla/Drusilla/Spike family. Angel closing the door on Darla and Drusilla and all the lawyers at the end of Reunion is one of my favorite moments on the show (ok, not saying much since I haven't seen all of the series, but still. It kicks ass). And I actually found myself tearing up at the end of The Trial when Darla realizes how much Angel cares about her and doesn't want Angel to turn her even though he's considering it and Angel saying he'll be there for her and then Dru turning her at the end. I think I might ship Angel/Darla a little? I don't know. I mean, I can't ever not ship Buffy/Angel the most on these shows because they were my first ship ever, but as I said, I love everything Angelus/Darla/Drusilla/Spike. I mean, I think I ship Spike with Dru more than any other character. I definitely prefer Angel/Darla to Angel/Cordelia (ugh, I'm dreading that. I mean, I know they never have a real relationship (uh, I think), but I'm not looking forward to Angel being all jealous because of Groosalug (is that how you spell that?) and whatever else there is).

Normally when I watch season 1 of Angel, I get really upset about Doyle dying, but this time I was just kind of "Eh, whatever." I don't know why. Maybe this time I was just like "Whatever, not getting attached." Also, for some reason I was really eager for Wesley to show up, and I have no idea why. I've never loved him (I mean... I've never hated him; I've just never cared much either way), but when I was watching the first few episodes I was like "When is Wesley showing up, come on!" It's really weird, too, how long it takes for them to get all the group together. I mean, when I think of Angel, I think of him, Wesley, Fred, Cordelia, and Gunn. But Wesley doesn't show up until halfway through season 1, Gunn at the end of season 1, and Fred not until the end of season 2. And I don't know why I think of the 4 of them when I've only season seasons 1-3, so I've definitely watched more episodes without them than with them all together.

Also, I really adore Lindsey. Dead End has always been one of my favorite episodes of the show (I'm going to get to it today probably, and I am excited!). I love how he falls in love with Darla, and how he has... some sort of morals. Kind of. I mean, he helps with the kids in Blind Date! I don't know. I love him.

I'll probably have more thoughts once I get through the rest, but that's it for now. I'm really glad I finally decided to do this, though. I'm kind of considering doing a favorite moments/episodes picspam of the series once I'm done. I haven't picspammed anything in awhile, so I've kind of gotten the urge now. I've also gotten the urge to do that with Buffy, but the thought of doing that is kind of daunting. I don't know if I'd be able to narrow down moments/episodes for that show into anything reasonable.

i'm only focusing on season 3-5. i'll probably go back and watch at least season 2 once i'm done (i've seen a few season 1 episodes, and most of them were pretty stupid, so it's not really a priority for me to fill in those blanks). i'm getting to angel/cordy stuff now, actually, and i'm not liking it. i'm mostly only interested in wesley, though, so on that front i'm getting to the good stuff.

There are definitely a lot of stupid episodes in season 1, but I did find some episodes I really loved. Obviously the Faith episodes are awesome, but I also really like the finale, I Will Remember You, Hero, In the Dark (that one almost feels more like a Buffy episode what with Spike and Oz showing up), and a couple others I'm forgetting. I don't know, I had a good time rewatching it even if it's not the most amazing season. Although I will say that Kate, the cop friend/enemy, is a ridiculously annoying character and I'm glad she didn't last the whole series. Season 2 is definitely loads better; there's more of a season arc, and I love Angel going dark.

I am really looking forward to Wesley's arc. I like him in seasons 1 and 2, but I'm much more excited for him in season 3. And I'm also looking forward to seasons 4 and 5 in general just because I don't really know what to expect having only seen a handful of episodes.

see, i did not like the season 1 finale, and i thought the demon nazis in "hero" were stupid, though i'm pretty sure i would love doyle if i saw more of him. "parting gifts" i think was a little too campy for my taste, but it was OK. loved the faith episodes, though, and the pilot i would probably give a B. that's all i've seen of season 1.

i'm actually not looking forward to season 4 that much plot-wise, because it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but i'm really excited about dark wesley, so i'm kind of torn. i'm really looking forward to season 5, though.

I don't know, I enjoyed the finale. It wasn't one of my favorite finales, but I really liked it. I mostly like Hero for Doyle's sacrifice and the end with him on the video tape. I will say that I didn't enjoy it as much this time as I did the last few times I watched it. I didn't mention Parting Gifts, but that actually was one of the episodes I really enjoyed from the season. It is a little campy, but I still found it fun. And I think I was just really excited for Wesley to show up, so that made the episode even better for me. The Faith episodes are probably the best of the season. The pilot is pretty eh for me. I would definitely suggest at least watching In the Dark for Spike if you haven't seen it. I did realize after I wrote all that about season 1 in my post that, thinking back, I couldn't think of a lot of really standout episodes. I guess I mostly just found it really fun to watch through even if there aren't a lot of brilliant episodes.

Yeah, I'm probably looking forward to season 5 more than season 4, and I'm a little afraid of what season 4 will bring, but at least they'll be new episodes for me which will be fun. I'm kind of dreading season 3 the most just because I actually have seen all (or almost all) of the episodes from that season, and as I said, I'm really not looking forward to Angel/Cordelia stuff. But that's also the start of Wesley's character arc into going kind of dark, isn't it? So I'm looking forward to that. I think I'll probably try to focus on all the Wesley, Fred, and Gunn parts of that season and ignore Angel and Cordelia.

I love season 2. I love any scenes with Angel and Darla together so it was a big happy season for me. :) I surprisingly love season 4. While the season long arc is kinda ridiculous there are some really good standalone episodes and also WESLEY! (He's my favorite.)

Yeah, same here. I really love what they did with Darla on Angel. She was kind of annoying for the short time she was on Buffy in season 1, but I loved her on Angel. I'm halfway through season 5 of Angel now, and I really liked season 4, too! I was surprised since I wasn't expecting much of it, and yeah, the season long arc is kind of weird, but I still found the season to be interesting and enjoyable to watch. Wesley is definitely my favorite, and that is probably part of why I really enjoyed season 4.
