holy crap Brittany Murphy died? I think I'm more surprised over this than when Michael Jackson died. I wasn't like a huge fan of hers, but that's really terrible. I haven't seen loads of her movies, but I remember liking her a lot in Girl, Interrupted.

Anyways, I'm home now. I've been back since Saturday night. I don't think it's fully sunk in yet that the semester is over and I'm home for 5 weeks rather than just 4 days and then back to school. I'm a little behind on TV, and I wanted to watch more movies before the end of the year, but I think I'm going to focus on my end of the decade picspam(s).

I watched Fool For Love and Darla back to back with my parents last night. ugh I love everything about the Angelus/Darla/Spike/Dru backstory so much. Which I've said before, but it bears repeating. I'm so excited to get to a lot of the episodes in season 2 of Angel and season 5 of Buffy, but I don't know if we'll get all the way through during break. Particularly since as I mentioned I'm getting season 2 of Dexter for my dad (which I'm still nervous he might end up getting for me; I didn't put it on my Christmas list and I told my mom I got it for him so she could like... dissuade him from getting it for me, but yesterday at lunch he was like "So what did you ask for for Christmas?" and I was listing some things and he was like "Why not Dexter Season 2?" and I was like "lkasjfkj uh... I don't know." I am not good at making stuff up on the fly. Oh well. If he gets it for me, one of us can exchange one of the sets for season 3 instead.

I always suck at posting when I'm home for some reason, so I'm going to try to not fail too much and still post at least 2-3 times a week. We'll see if that actually happens.

This weekend was really nice. Thursday was pumpkin pie and turkey and mashed potatoes, and Friday and Saturday were continuing my Buffy and Angel rewatch with my parents. Even though I totally just rewatched Angel in August, I'm really eager to keep watching season 2 (where we are now) of Angel. I mean, I'm eager for Buffy, too, but that's more expected since I haven't seen Buffy Season 5 since I was a junior in high school (omg was that really 4 years ago already? Ridiculous). But I just love the season arc of this season of Angel! The next Angel ep we have up is Darla and the next Buffy ep is Fool For Love, so I'm so ridiculously excited to watch those. I also went with my parents this weekend to see A Serious Man, the new Coen brothers movie, which was really amazing and I highly recommend it.

Being Erica )

I have 2 full weeks of school, 2 days of school, 2 days with nothing, and then 2 days of finals and then I'm home. I think the most work I have to do will actually be in the first two weeks rather than the week with finals. I'm really looking forward to this semester being over. I have a draft of a project due tomorrow afternoon in Discrete Math that I've barely started on, and I have to do so much work for my research project this week, including analyzing the results and writing a draft of the discussion. At least I'm done collecting data. That was not fun.

;lkdjsf I GOT LOCKED OUT OF MY APARTMENT FOR THE 2ND TIME THIS SEMESTER WTF. I mean, I feel kind of irritated towards my roommates even though it's entirely my fault. Well... not ENTIRELY. I mean, last time I got locked out I actually forgot to put my keys in my backpack, but this time I put them in, but the pocket was open and they fell out onto the ground next to my desk. So I thought I had them with me! Last time I just went to the library and 2 of my roommates were like right in the front and I saw them immediately and borrowed keys and got in, so no big deal, but this time everyone was in class or... who knows where, so I went to the library until the 9:40-11:10 class period ended and then came back and it was open. And I suppose I did manage to get all my German homework done during that time which is good, but still. I was looking forward to coming back from Discrete Math and relaxing and maybe watching last night's Friday Night Lights and drinking some coffee (I have not kicked this habit yet) before starting to work. Oh well. At least there was an amazing new Kradam video to watch when I got back. I mean, what? I'm totally not still obsessed with AI S8, I don't know what you're talking about!

Anyways. TV Time!

Being Erica )

Is this season of Being Erica almost over? Or, well, I guess I'm asking if the show has the same number of episodes this season as last season (12, I believe? No more than 13, anyways) or if this season will be a full 22. I don't know if Canadian shows do 22 episode seasons since I've never watched one before. But I really don't want this season to be over already! It's so good!

Glee )

omg on Amazon they have the complete series of Angel for only $62.31! THAT'S RIDICULOUS. WHY DO I ALREADY OWN SEASONS 1 AND 2? I would be so all over that if I didn't. I'm pretty sure I spent $60 on seasons 1 and 2 INDIVIDUALLY. AND NOW THEY'RE SELLING THEM FOR $12.46 A SEASON. THIS IS EVEN BETTER THAN THE FARSCAPE COMPLETE SERIES DEAL. Maybe I can justify it by buying it and giving my parents seasons 1 and 2?

(I have a serious problem with sales. Must resist spending more money.)

Okay, so I'm finally at school. I arrived in St. Paul on Wednesday, and I've been actually living in my apartment since Saturday night. I wasn't a huge fan of the room when I looked at it in May (I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't really care for it), but it's looking so nice now. The walls are a pretty strong blue, and I hated them when I first saw them and wanted to paint them at some point, but over the course of a few days, they've really grown on me. I'm so happy with my room. I think we're going to put some posters up since a few walls are kind of blank and empty, and we might be getting a TV this weekend, so I'll wait till everything's really sorted to post pictures. Of course, I always say I'm going to post pictures and never do. I haven't even uploaded the ones of my dorm last year from the camera to the computer (although that was party because I left my camera cord at home and didn't bring it until the spring semester where I forgot my camera battery recharger in turn), but if I do end up taking pictures of my room and apartment, I'll upload the ones from last year as well.

The girl I'm sharing a room with I was friends with last year, but the other 3 girls I met for the first time this past week. I was a bit nervous at first (I suck at meeting new people), but they're all very nice and welcoming and such. I think it'll be good. In any case, I can stand a year living with them, and if things suck, I'll get my own apartment next year.

While on vacation, my parents and I watched season 4 of Buffy and season 1 of Angel. My parents didn't like season 4 of Buffy as much as the other seasons. They said that they don't think the college stuff works as well. They both adore Spike, but I don't know if they still will after season 5. They were saying before we got to the end of the season that they were sure he would get his chip removed by the end of season 4 because he was too good a villain and it would be too boring for him to stay chipped. I haven't told them anything about Buffy/Spike, so I'm interested to see their reaction. They both really enjoyed Angel, my dad especially, which kind of surprised me. My dad is really looking forward to season 2 what with Darla coming back since he really likes Julie Benz from watching season 1 of Dexter. I don't know when we'll get season 5 of Buffy and season 2 of Angel in. I guess over winter break, although I don't think we'll have enough time to finish them both. We'll see. It was really fun watching season 4 of Buffy for me, anyways. It's been ages since I've seen nearly all those episodes. I actually kind of like Riley before he and Buffy start officially dating; he's pretty sweet. He gets annoying once he gets all angsty over everything and isn't just cute and happy.

What else? I bought books yesterday and it was the cheapest semester for books ever. I only have books for 2 classes (one for one class and a book and a workbook for another), which was nice. We don't have internet in our apartment, wireless or otherwise, but the guys next door have wireless and it's unlocked and it doesn't cost them any extra for us to use it, so everyone here with a laptop has just been stealing their internet. If they lock it at some point, I think we're going to get wireless. I still have a lot to take care of here, unfortunately. But at least the room is almost done. I probably won't be on much in the next week, anyways, since I'll be pretty busy with apartment stuff and classes.

My parents and I finally got to the Wesley episodes of season 3 of Buffy! We had left off at The Zeppo and then my mom was in Minnesota the weekend after that and then we were finishing up Dexter the weekend after that, but now we're finally back to Buffy. I mean, I don't love Wesley on Buffy at all (although he's pretty amusing, especially when Giles is sniping at him), but he's my absolute favorite character on Angel, so it's exciting to see him. I think he might have the most drastic development of any character on either series. And there's Faith! I mean, she was in the earlier episodes of the season as well, but still. I've rediscovered my Faith love this summer, and this is basically the start of it all going downhill for her.

I wrote up a bunch of thoughts while watching Angel a few weeks ago, but then I was kind of overwhelmed by the end of season 5 (even though I was spoiled and knew what was going to happen; in fact, I had seen quite a few of the episodes from the end of the season) so I wanted to distance myself from the show for a little. And now I've moved on to other obsessions (namely True Blood), so I forgot about it. But here are the random thoughts I had while watching the show: Angel Series Thoughts )

Anyways, I randomly feel like rewatching both seasons of The Big Bang Theory and then picspamming the show. I don't know why. Well, I'm feeling like randomly picspamming everything since I haven't done a picspam in ages and I'm leaving to go back to school on the 23rd and won't have much time during the semester to picspam anything. But there's no real reason for me to want to rewatch TBBT in particular. I haven't had a great urge to rewatch Chuck even though I was planning a rewatch for the second last semester ended and I got home. I don't know. I'm feeling kind of out of sorts having so little time left at home. I feel like I need to get all this different stuff in that I know I won't have time for once I leave.

At some point in the next week, I really need to start going through all my stuff and figuring out what I want to take with me. And I need to search for socks, because I've somehow managed to lose track of like half my socks since I've been home. And I feel like I need to review German ridiculous amounts. I feel like I've forgotten 90% of what I learned of German in the past year. I was trying to remember just the basic pronouns and it took me way longer than it should have. I'm not really sure that I'm going to be able to fit all the stuff I need to do in with all the stuff I'm having random urges to do.

Well, July's over. In July I watched 181 episodes of TV, 7 movies, and read 0 books (well, 0 books for the first time, which is what I count for books. I did reread the entire Harry Potter series). I'm surprised I watched that many movies; it didn't feel like I saw that many. It feels like I watched a lot more TV than that, though.

I finished all 5 seasons of Angel. I will probably write up my random thoughts about the show and post them, but I had to take a step back after the finale. The last half of season 5 hit me really hard, even though I was spoiled for everything that happened. I'm probably going to do a picspam of my favorite episodes and/or moments, too. I just wanted to take a break and detach myself a little from the show; I got a bit overinvested at the end.

My mom was in Minnesota over the weekend for the science fiction/fantasy writers' convention she goes to every year (since she is a sci fi/fantasy writer). Normally on the weekend I watch stuff with my parents (right now we're on Buffy Season 3; before that we were getting through HIMYM), but my dad and I didn't want to get further in Buffy without my mom, and my dad has been really wanting to see Dexter after hearing that it was really great from me and someone else, so we started season 1 of that instead. Spoilery for Dexter Season 1 )

We've only gotten through episode 8, so I'm really looking forward to watching the last 4 episodes again. And I'm curious as to what my mom will think about the show. I think I'll try to catch her up during the week so we can finish the season over the weekend with my dad.

I'm considering reading the Sookie Stackhouse books, but I'm afraid that the rest of the season of True Blood wouldn't be as fun being spoiled for whatever happens. =/ I read the first one after finishing the first season, but I don't know if I want to go any further. Has anyone who watches the show also read the books? Did reading the books detract from your enjoyment of the show? I wish I could know how closely the True Blood writers were planning on following stuff in the books for future seasons. I know they've already changed stuff, but I believe the major season plotlines are the same.

I am halfway through season 2 of Angel in my rewatch (which I did finally decide to do after planning to for like over a year), and I have random thoughts! Angel thoughts )

I'll probably have more thoughts once I get through the rest, but that's it for now. I'm really glad I finally decided to do this, though. I'm kind of considering doing a favorite moments/episodes picspam of the series once I'm done. I haven't picspammed anything in awhile, so I've kind of gotten the urge now. I've also gotten the urge to do that with Buffy, but the thought of doing that is kind of daunting. I don't know if I'd be able to narrow down moments/episodes for that show into anything reasonable.

I spent the past week rereading all the Harry Potter books. This plus going through season 3 of Buffy on the weekends with my parents pretty much makes me feel like I'm in middle school again. It was pretty fun rereading HP. The first two books have gotten kind of boring (mostly because of how simplistic they are compared to the later books), but it doesn't take long to get through them, and once I have, there are no books I hate. Originally I remember not liking HBP much, but each time I read it, I like it more. And I've only read DH once, so I had forgotten a lot of stuff in it.

Rewatching Buffy has kind of been the same way. I remember a lot less from season 3 than I do 2, and even 1. Season 1 I think I rewatched most recently (since I got that last, I think. Or maybe I got 4 and 5 last, but I haven't gotten to rewatching 5 yet, and I didn't watch my DVDs of 4 after I bought them for some reason) and 2 is my favorite so I've... thought about it more, maybe? Or rewatched reruns of those eps more, maybe? But for some reason I've forgotten a lot about 3, even though it's my second favorite. It's loads of fun, though. We're going to get to Lover's Walk and The Wish this weekend, which I'm really excited about. I love those episodes.

I think I'm going to start rewatching Angel on my own, too. Mostly because I've been planning to for over a year, now, and everytime I watch Buffy or Leverage (because of Christian Kane) I get the urge to rewatch it. Plus, I've only ever seen seasons 1 and 2 all the way through. I've seen nearly all and know what happens in the episodes I haven't seen of season 3, but I've only seen a couple episodes from seasons 4 and 5, and it feels weird to call myself a fan of the show when I haven't seen so many episodes. Actually, I've still only seen like half of season 7 of Buffy, so I should probably get around to doing that too at some point. But I'll get to that in my Buffy rewatch with my parents, and I'm not as excited for that season anyways.

I only have about a month before I have to leave for school. While there are definitely things I miss about school, I'm starting to feel nervous and apprehensive and such about next year. I don't know. I wasn't very optimistic about last semester and that turned out a lot better than I expected, so maybe it won't be as bad as I think.

Oh man, I can't believe Andy Hallett died! He was so young! I always loved Lorne on Angel. That's so terrible.

I think I decided to stop watching 90210. I mean, I don't know why I hadn't stopped watching it already. But there hasn't been a new episode in forever and I haven't missed it at all, and every week when I check to see if it's new, I'm relieved when it's not. Which probably is a sign I shouldn't be watching it anymore.

I totally did not realize Greek was coming back already until I saw that it was on last night! Ah, that show makes me so happy. I know it looks bad from previews and it's on ABC Family, but it's actually really great. But seriously, WHY IS IT ON MONDAY? Now that I'm not watching 90210, Privileged's season is over, and Scrubs was moved to Wednesday, I have 0 shows on Tuesday, but on Monday I have How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Chuck, House, Gossip Girl, Heroes, and now Greek as well.

I have to register for new classes in a few weeks and I don't really have any idea what I'm going to do. It feels like that since after this semester I'm half-way through my college career, I can't just take random classes that I'm interested in but have no relation to my major or minor or anything. blah. I think I'll wait until this weekend to worry about it, though. I still have a few weeks. Registration isn't until the 22nd, and it's not even April yet.
brokenrecord: (Default)
Well, I've been on Spring Break for the past week. I got home Friday night and then my parents and I went skiing in Mammoth from Sunday to Thursday. It was a lot of fun, and it sucks to be back now because I only have two days before I have to go back to school, which I'm not looking forward to. I didn't check my flist at all when I was in Mammoth and there's absolutely no way I can get through everything I missed, so let me know if anything huge happened while I was gone.

I watched season 1 of Buffy with my parents while we were in Mammoth, and they really loved it (they had never seen any of it before). It was so bizarre, though, because they had absolutely no idea about anything about the show. After the first episode, my mom asked me if Angel was really an angel, and I was so confused for a second because I thought it was just common knowledge that he was a vampire. And when we got through the episode Angel, both my parents were absolutely shocked when it was revealed. I have no idea what my reaction was. I saw the episodes out of order and it was so long ago that I just feel like I've always known that.

I've also been watching Bones. I like it more than I did the first time I watched the first few episodes. I'm up to around episode 17 of the first season. It's too bad I don't have time to finish it before going back. I guess I'll just try to watch episodes when I can (and hopefully not be idiotic enough to put watching TV before doing homework and studying and all that). But after watching season 1 of Buffy and Bones, I've gotten the urge to watch all of Angel. I own the first two seasons and have watched all those episodes, and I'm pretty sure I've watched all of season 3, but I've only seen a few episodes from seasons 4 and 5. I think I'll try to watch the entire series once the semester is over (only like 7 more weeks!) if I still have the urge.
brokenrecord: (Default)
So I did end up rewatching all of Doctor Who S3 without commentary this weekend. I actually didn't mean to go through all the episodes, but I really wanted to get to the last 3 since I've seen up to Blink twice through but the last three episodes I'd only seen once, and they're totally brilliant, so yeah. Anyways, I'm going to go back through now more slowly with commentary and watching all the special features and such. I'm also planning on doing a season 3 picspam of random things, but I have to wait until I get PSP again. My trial ran out so I ended up finally buying it (the second time in the span of a year! gah) but this time I bought the box version rather than just the serial key code thing, so I'm hoping that means I'll be able to install it again the next time I get a new computer. Unfortunately, though, as a result, I'm going to have to wait until it arrives to do the picspam. I also want to make season 3 icons because I have none (well, I made a few back when it originally aired, but I don't like them very much, so I want to make new ones) and I'm also definitely going to make a new layout (which is definitely going to be Farscape related), but both of those things will also have to wait.

Random Doctor Who Season 3 Thoughts )

So now I really have the urge to rewatch the other seasons of Doctor Who. My mom bought season 2 for herself, so I can rewatch that at some point, but... it's hers, so I can't take it to school with me, and so I can't see it until either spring break or summer, which sucks. And season 1 I don't have at all (I really need to get that. On the plus side, I'm pretty sure my mom's going to buy it for herself since she wasn't aware that we didn't already have it, and when I told her we didn't she was like "What?! We need to get that!" Hee. I love how I got my mom obsessed with this show).

Totally unrelated, I've also felt like rewatching the entire series of Angel. The thing is, I've only actually seen seasons 1 and 2 all the way through (they're the only ones I have on DVD). Season 3 I've seen parts of and read the transcripts of the episodes I haven't seen (yes, it was so long ago that I was getting into Angel that it was way more difficult to download episodes, if it was even possible at all, and I don't think DVDs were out either, so I read transcripts to get into shows). Seasons 4 and 5 I've seen random episodes, including the finale, but most of them I haven't. So I feel like going through all 5 seasons, but... I only have the first two seasons (which are at home, too), so I don't know how likely that's going to be. We'll see.

Ok, now I should probably start on the work I have for this week. I have loads of reading and a test on Wednesday (and unlike the Drugs and Society one, this one I can't drop, so I actually need to study), so I should probably not spend all day looking up Doctor Who related things and getting all excited for the fourth season (!! I'm so excited now! Does anyone know when it's going to start, exactly? Or is there a premiere date even set yet? It's really good that Torchwood's going now, or I'd be going crazy over the wait) and not doing the loads of work I have to do.
