So I have to be at the Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference in front of my poster in 2 1/2 hours. Nervous and not looking forward to it. Actually I should kind of be there now - it's strongly encouraged to come to the entire thing, but it started at 8 AM and there was no way that was happening. And right now the poster sessions are taking a break and the Keynote speaker is talking and then there's an hour break for lunch, so there doesn't seem to be any point to going until my session starts.
Yesterday instead of watching more season 4 of Doctor Who, I decided to watch all of Party Down.
omg this show is so cute and funny! Why didn't I start watching it sooner?
First of all, OMG THE CAST. I think this might be the first show I've seen where I've seen every single member of the cast in something else before, and like... not just seen, but actually recognize. Jane Lynch of course is everywhere. Ken Marino I most recently watched on Veronica Mars, and I think he was also on Charmed. Ryan Hansen of course is from VM. Adam Scott... I think I first saw him on Boy Meets World, but I have no recollection of his character. I've seen him elsewhere, though, most recently probably VM. And Lizzy Caplan has also been loads of places, most recently for me probably True Blood. And Martin Starr from Freaks and Geeks. So yeah, that was kind of awesome.
Then, of course, the guest stars! KEITH MARS. LOGAN ECHOLLS. VERONICA MARS! (This show really is a giant VM reunion. There was even Cliff the lawyer! And Logan/Meg, which was very bizarre. Duncan would not approve.) Besides the VM-related guest stars, there were plenty of others, as well. Senor Chang! J. K. Simmons! Steven Weber! Rick Fox! George Takei! Ridiculous!
Also, this show totally mentioned Greek! And like... not just briefly, but even mentioned Rusty! A+, show!
My favorite thing of course is Henry/Casey, as I am a ridiculous shipper. They're so freaking adorable together! I really love the evolution of their relationship, too. It was so well-paced and they didn't try to keep them apart for ages but instead actually made their relationship interesting. I love how it went from something super casual and secret to them each becoming jealous of the other flirting with other people to her asking him to stay (and then she leaves in the next episode, but whatever). Their break-up was realistic, too, and didn't just seem like something being introduced to keep them apart. And now she's back, and I think I'm going to love this, because they're both seeing other people but are obviously still into each other and they're going to be all jealous and awkward and it's going to be excellent. I'm so excited for the rest of this season.
The characters are all really entertaining, too. One thing I especially loved was the bizarre friendship between Constance and Kyle, and it sucks that Jane Lynch isn't on the show anymore (although I was expecting that considering she's probably preoccupied with Glee now). Maybe she can come back and guest star for an episode or two.
Also, this show is really, really funny. I could try to show some examples of hilarious lines, but then I'd never get done with this entry, as every show has so many excellent and hilarious lines. But trust me, it's a really, really funny show.
So yeah, I am whole-heartedly endorsing this show. It's excellent.
Originally I had been planning on rewatching Children of Earth and maybe one or two of the DW specials from this past year, but now I'm not sure. I've hit kind of a block in my rewatch. I think it's a combination of, well... first, I was super excited and looking forward to Torchwood season 2 since I hadn't seen it in ages and season 1 mostly bored me and I remembered loving season 2 and I was really eager for all the Jack/Ianto stuff. And then I got past that, and now I'm back to DW and I already watched most of my favorite season 4 episodes 2 weeks ago, so there's less that I'm eager to get to. And the other major factor is that my obsession has moved on to basically anything involving Jonathan Groff (focusing of course on Glee and Spring Awakening).
I'm halfway through season 4, anyways, and I think I might take a short break from it. Or at least draw it out more. I'll probably just watch an episode or two a day rather than marathoning entire seasons in one day, as I was doing last week. And I should really be working on school stuff. I need to try to finish an 8-10 page paper by Tuesday or Wednesday so I can give my professor enough time to look it over, and I really, really need that to happen since it's for the only class that I'm not really sure how my grade will turn out.
Some TV stuff:
Fringe
;LKAJSF OMG PETER CALLED WALTER "DAD." I think I said when I first marathoned the show last fall that I was eagerly awaiting the first instance, and I SO wasn't expecting it here! But of course it's perfect here, because their relationship has gotten to this point, and now you know it's going to be ruined once Peter finds out. But this has to happen first for the greatest emotional impact. Oh man.
l;aksdlfjk Peter figured it out. I knew he would. Oh god. Why are you trying to destroy me, Fringe?
(I'm really, really loving Fringe right now. It's ridiculous because I was so bored by it when I watched the first few episodes when it first aired. But it's gotten really, really good.)
The Vampire Diaries
I have a random desire now for Stefan and Bonnie to start hooking up while Stefan is still dating Elena and she finds out and it's all very angsty. And then Elena and Damon can hook up. I don't know exactly where this is coming from, other than that look shared between Bonnie and Stefan at the beginning when she arrives in class (even though I realize that wasn't a "I'm so into you" look. But after it I started thinking about other things that look could mean and then my mind went there and now I want it).
(I must say I definitely enjoy Elena and Stefan more when Stefan is all hooked on human blood and not brooding and dark and stuff. Way more entertaining.)
Stefan is kind of crazy now. It's awesome.
DAMON ESCORTING ELENA. EXCELLENT. (I feel like the show will always return to Stefan/Elena as like... endgame, but I don't care. Damon has always been the absolute most interesting part of this show for me, and Stefan/Elena the least.) I mean, come on! Him stepping in as escort didn't do anything to benefit him. He just did it to help Elena out. (And then they danced together and it was totally freaking awesome.)
I kind of love that Caroline won. It would have been too boring if it was Elena.
I can't believe how much I end up enjoying this show. I did not think it would be this entertaining when I started watching it at the beginning of this season. But it's gotten kind of crazy and excellent. I mean, it's not brilliant or wonderfully written or anything, but it's a whole lot of fun.
