Just a technical question, how do you get that dusky tone to most of them? With the high contrast and gold hues.
Gradient or is there a trick to it?

In general, usually I use a lot of gradients. I'll sometimes use a few brushes, depending on the icon. Every icon I just kind of... play around with different gradients and blending options. For several of the icons, I used a dark to light blue gradient set at difference at about... 10 to 40 opacity [depending on the icon].

If you could point me to some specific icons, I could probably be more informative, since every icon I make is made differently, and I'm not sure if I know exactly what you're talking about.. :)

Unfortunately right now I only have about 3 Charmed icons, and I don't really like any of them. But I'll make a few more Charmed ones and apply sometime soon. Thanks for inviting me :)

Unfortunately, those icons I saved as a merged file [sometimes I'll save it as a pspimage which saves all the layers separately so I can go back and see what I did]. 6/7 was various gradients. I used an exclusion layer in all of these [which, if you don't know, is a darkish blue color {I use #0B1837} set at exclusion] between a screened copy of the base and a desaturated copy of the base set at soft light. Blah, sorry if that made no sense. I used brownish gradients, a blue gradient set at difference at around 10-30 opacity, a dark reds to lighter yellow gradient on color legacy at around 20. I'd be a lot better help if I had saved each layer separately, sorry. =/

24 I know for sure the brownish/goldish color was this gradient: set at difference at an opacity of about 10-30 [varies on darkness/lightness of the image. Lighter the image, higher the opacity. I used it on #10 at 100% opacity. Most you can't use it that high]. I also used a... sunset type gradient at lighten, probably under the difference gradient.

That's about all I can remember. I usually try to save the layers as a pspimage, but lately I haven't been. Sorry I can't be more informative.

No thankyou so much for all that.
I've been using photoshop for years, for some reason I've never really sat down and played around with gradients and mode settings. This has been really helpful.

Sorry to intrude :)

Number 25 - how did you make the boxes? Was it a template, a brush, or did you just pen them in yourself?

Great style!

I made them myself. I just cropped the image to how I wanted it, resized it to about 25x25, and pasted it onto the base three times. Simple 1 pixel border around them.

Thank you! :)
