So I wrote this up like a month ago and was just waiting for the Doctor Who finale to post, but then it came and I totally forgot about it. But anyways, since I did a short review of all the shows I watched last year, I figured I'd do the same for this year. There are spoilers, so if you haven't seen all of a TV show that aired this year then you might not want to read it (the shows under the cut are Battlestar Galactica, The Black Donnellys, Doctor Who, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, House, Lost, My Name is Earl, The O.C., The Office, Prison Break, Studio 60, Supernatural, Torchwood, Ugly Betty, and Veronica Mars). 2006-2007 Television Season )

I totally caught my mom watching a rerun of Ugly Betty last night. I'm so awesome at getting her to watch the TV shows I like.

In honor of The O.C. ending, I decided to do a picspam of my favorite moments. This was going to be 20, and then it was going to be 25, and after that I just kind of gave up trying to limit it. I was also going to limit this to only one moment per episode, but I just couldn't decide between some of them, so I gave up on that, too. What resulted was this ridiculously long picspam. Dial-up users, beware.

So, uh. The O.C. is over now.

The O.C. 4.16: The End's Not Near, It's Here )

I think I'm going to do a picspam of my favorite moments from this show either tomorrow or Saturday (probably Saturday, because I have a jazz band thing tomorrow night plus rehearsal afterschool) to, I don't know. Honor it? That sounds stupid, but I can't think of the word I mean. But man, I love this show so much. I'm so sad to see it go.

kaljsfd omg The O.C. absolutely killed me tonight. I kind of can't stop crying. alksfjd just with the... with everything! and! aksldfj god. I can't really form coherent thoughts right now. I think I'll do a post about it tomorrow, because right now... gah.

I really hate that next week is the last episode.

Thursday night TV kicks every other night of TV's asses.

The Office )

Ugly Betty )

The O.C. )

Supernatural was also kickass, but I don't really have anything to say about it other than that.

Anyways, yesterday I came home after Jazz Band before going to Andrew's house to hang out with some people, and when I got there I asked my mom if I could go and she was just like "What? Of course. You don't really have to ask. You're 18 now." And I was just like "...wha?" Because, yeah, I'm 18, but I thought my mom would be the type of mom who's like "As long as you're living under my roof, you're not an adult." So after a couple minutes of staring at her and wondering when exactly she had been abducted by aliens, I left and went to Andrews. Around 10 I called her to see what time she wanted me home, because usually she wants me home by midnight and she had been all... you can do whatever you want earlier, but I wasn't sure if that was just temporary insanity or she was actually serious. So I called and she was like "Eh, don't stay out too late" and I was like "...wtf?" and she was like "I'm going to bed at midnight. I guess try not to stay out much past 12:15ish?" Which is just... not at all her. And before it's not like she was ever... you're only 17, you have to be back by 12, it was more that she would worry about me and wouldn't be able to fall asleep if she knew I was out. But I guess now that I'm 18 she's no longer worried? It almost worked like reverse psychology, because I ended up getting home by 11:20 (well, that and I was giving Soan a ride and she wanted to go home. And I was tired). I mean, I'm very happy about this, trust me, but it's just kind of confusing me.

Caught up on TV today, since all I watched this week was Prison Break, Heroes, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, and The Office. Some thoughts on a few of the shows I watched:

Ugly Betty )

The O.C. )

Studio 60 )

Veronica Mars )

Had an interview Thursday at Claremont McKenna. I think it was my best one yet. I mean, it wasn't amazing, but it was definitely better than the other two ones. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this. I have another up in Santa Monica tomorrow for Lewis and Clark College. I'm not too worried about it, though, because it's a safety school, so as long as I don't offend the interviewer in some way, I'm pretty sure I'll get in.

Yesterday was great fun. After school we got cake because it was Mrs. Daley's last day officially. Then after jazz band, I went to Comedy Sports at school with Emma, Galaxy, Richard, and Andrew. After that, all of us except for Galaxy went to Emma's house and played this game called The New Yorker which is kind of like Words of Wiz-dumb, except you make up captions for pictures instead of filling words into sentences.

I think now I should probably get some homework done since I have a lot to do and tomorrow is the interview and then afterwards I'm going to try to go to Emma's Youth Symphony Orchestra concert at Chapman.

So this week the only TV I watched was Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, My Name is Earl, and The Office, since it was pretty much a hell week for me (I had something major in every class: test in chem, quiz in calc, test and essay in French, test in physics, midterm and essay in English, and jazz band auditions) and then on Friday we had an away football game even though we already had our last football game ever because our football team was in CIF (like... championships, or playoffs, or whatever? I mean, they didn't even make it, they got a wildcard spot or something, but yeah). So today I had like 12 hours of TV to catch up on, and I watched everything except the now three episodes of Supernatural I've missed and last week's Torchwood (which I'll watch in an hour or so). And I'm very surprised to say that out of all the TV I watched (Prison Break, Heroes, Studio 60, House, Ugly Betty, The O.C., Doctor Who, and Battlestar Galactica), the episode of The O.C. was my favorite. I just don't understand how this has happened, how The O.C. is suddenly so good again! I loved Ugly Betty a lot too, and everything else was very good as well, but somehow The O.C. was my favorite. Weird.

Anyways, at the end of the football game yesterday (which sucked, by the way, for many different reasons, and I'm glad we lost 28 to 2 so we don't have to go to another), Mrs. Daley announced that she resigned. I don't really know how to feel about it, because I didn't really like her and I wasn't really happy with how she ran things, but at the same time I did feel bad for her. So now I don't know who's doing jazz band (Mrs. Bentley, maybe? Or Mr. Johnson?) but that explains why Mrs. Bentley announced on Thursday jazz band results would be posted next week but couldn't explain why.

I'm glad next week is Thanksgiving because I could really do with a break. Ah, but this year feels like it's moving so fast! Thanksgiving means it's almost December, which means it's almost winter break, which means it's almost January, which means first semester is almost over and I can stop studying so hard and just get B's in all my classes and in January I'll hear from the three schools I applied to early action (Goucher, Colorado College, and Lewis and Clark). So weird to think about how senior year is almost half-way through.

Thursday night TV is love.

The Office )

Ugly Betty )

The O.C. )

My Name is Earl was amusing as always, Supernatural will come on Saturday, probably.

There's this spider in my bathroom that I'm pretty sure has regenerative powers. Seriously. This morning, it was in the sink, and I turned on the water because I didn't have contacts in and couldn't see it, and then I saw something move and when I put my contacts in the spider had drowned and was all flat and stuff. But then this afternoon when I came home, I went in the bathroom and the dead spider was gone, and a live one that looked exactly like the one from this morning was just sitting there, hanging out, all alive and well and such. And I wouldn't think it was the same spider because we have plenty in this house, except where the hell did the dead one go? It was big and didn't wash down the drain or anything. Crazy.

Anyways, today instead of going to 6th period (Wind Ensemble), I played in a sax quintet for the reopening of this Ralph's near my school. Kind of weird, but it was actually pretty fun. We didn't sound too bad for only having played a week, and we got free lunch and coffee out of it. And they paid our school's music program $1000, and since we didn't play for very long (we were just background music at the very beginning), it works out to nearly $100 a minute. Pretty good.

I finally watched the episode of Studio 60 from Monday. Just a few thoughts... )

I'm really loving The O.C. this season so far. The second episode was just so freaking good. Way better than most of season 3 and... pretty much all of season 2. I hope it continues with the same quality, because yeah. This is almost reminiscent of season 1.

New episodes of My Name is Earl, The Office, Ugly Betty, Supernatural, and The O.C. in about 17 minutes! (It's a good thing I don't have school tomorrow, and actually have the time to watch all this. Well, not Supernatural, because I still haven't seen last week's episode because my DVR player chose not to record it and I downloaded it but haven't had the time to watch it yet, so I'll probably save it for like Saturday.) TV makes me happy. :D

So, what I feared would happen today, that every one of my friends had made All Southern, didn't happen. In fact, most people didn't make it. The only people to make it in the band was Andrew and this flute player I don't know, and then Emma made alternate. And, well, I guess some people haven't gotten their letters, so there might be a few more, but that's pretty much it. And I'm kind of relieved about that, which makes me feel bad since they're all great players and deserve to make it, but still. At least I don't have to feel bad about not making it alone. Also, I turned in the form to do Chapman Honor Band (which is no audition, your music director just has to reccomend you, and Mrs. Bentley's reccomending anyone who wants to do it who's in Wind Ensemble) so yeah. At least I'll have that. It's kind of funny that more people in band made All State than All Southern. It should be the other way around.

Still not sure about what I'm doing on Saturday. First we were planning to see Brokeback Mountain, but then Jackie and Lulu had Elite so we were going to do it at 7 PM but then Zi and Galaxy were going to go see a movie and have dinner late, and then we had the idea to watch the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice straight through, from like 10 to 3 and then Galaxy would be able to go out with Zi, except then Emma had a dentist appointment in the morning. So now what I've proposed is to see Brokeback Mountain at like 12:30 (which means Lulu and Jackie can't go, but ah I can't figure out anything else that would work) and on Monday see the 5 hour version of Pride and Prejudice. So, yeah. Hopefully something's going to happen, though, because I don't want to sit around all day doing nothing on my birthday. ...unless my parents get me DVDs to watch. Which then, yeah, that might not be so bad.

The O.C. and My Name is Earl are on tonight, and ugh, why did they have to move The O.C. back an hour? Because I was all "omg now that I'm no longer watching Reunion, once My Name is Earl has moved, I can watch it again, finally!" since before it aired at the same time as both Supernatural and House and I didn't want to bother with downloading it. But now it's on the same time as The O.C. and Everwood! NBC just really doesn't want me to watch this show, does it? sigh. But Everwood isn't back this week, so at least I'll be able to watch it tonight.

Yesterday at the marching band competition I went to see, one of the schools was Harbor High School, from Newport. Needless to say, this amused me a bit. And then, even better, the Oceanside Pirates also performed. If you didn't already know, Oceanside is where they've filmed some of the school stuff for Veronica Mars, and the Pirates are also the mascot in Veronica Mars. Unfortunately, no one I was with watched either The O.C. or Veronica Mars, so I could not share my amusement with anyone.

But yeah. Yesterday was another good day. Animal shelter for an hour, then went to see Wallace and Gromit at Westpark with Jackie, Emma, Galaxy, Zi, and Mike Schneider. I was going to try to convince people to see Serenity, but it wasn't even showing at the theater anymore. It made me sad. :( But Wallace and Gromit ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be, so it was ok.

Then we went to Irvine Stadium for the comp. Woodbridge and Irvine co-host it, so I got to see Annie a lot! Yay! Justin and William joined us for the comp, and then later Rosa and Jane also showed up. It was very fun. We were going to stay for a bit of the awards, but they were taking too long, so we left. I took Jackie, Emma, and Justin home, and dropping them all off may have been the funnest part of the day (though that kind of makes it seem like the rest of the day wasn't that great, but it was).

Now I get to read one-third of An Instance of the Fingerpost and write three thematic blurbs on it. Joy.

So, I didn't end up going to the football game. I got to the school at like 5:15 and the call time was 5:30, and I started to feel sick. I've been feeling sick on and off all week, and I just really didn't see myself going through a whole show and playing in the stands and so on. I stood around for awhile trying to decide if I should ask my mom if I could go home or not, and I ended up getting more time than I should've, because the buses were supposed to be at the school at 5:30, and by 6:00, they still weren't there. Finally around 6:00 I told my mom I wasn't feeling well and so we went home. I took a nap for like an hour and I felt loads better. I'm kind of tired now, but I don't feel as sick as I did before, which is good. Not planning on skipping school tomorrow, unless I start vomiting or something. I may not have even missed anything, though, because they might not have even gone to the football game because of the buses that failed to show up.

The O.C. )

Everwood )

Reunion )

Everybody Hates Chris will come tomorrow or Saturday. Serenity tomorrow! eee! :D I can't wait!

Televison-y stuff!

My Name is Earl )

The O.C. )

Reunion )

I watched last night's episode of Head Cases, but I don't really have anything to say about it. I liked it, though, so I'll continue downloading it once Veronica Mars starts airing again (less than a week! Also less than a week until my first essay of the year. bah).

I also saw the premiere of Everybody Hates Chris, but nothing much to say. I liked it fairly well (more than How I Met Your Mother), so I'll keep watching it.

Also, can I just say that I'm really loving that more comedies are going with the no-laugh track, not just on like the same sets sort of style? Like Arrested Development. After watching AD, I grew to hate the laugh track and all the traditional sitcom styles (which is one reason How I Met Your Mother kind of puts me off). So, I'm really happy to see that both My Name is Earl and Everbody Hates Chris are both in the more Arrested Development style rather than... Friends, for example.

So, it turns out that George Bush pre-empted Reunion with some sort of speech, so it didn't air anywhere. Unfortunately, for some reason my DVR player didn't record The O.C. (or that night's The Daily Show ep. Makes me think that I just ran out of room in my saved shows, so it couldn't save them), so I had to download that. But that didn't take too long.

The O.C. )

If you haven't heard, Governor Schwarzenegger had this bill or something passed banning soda being sold in high schools, in addition to other fatty and sugar-y things. I'd get pissed off about this, except for two things: A) It doesn't go into effect until July 2007, and that's right after I graduate, so it doesn't affect me in the slightest. B) Even if it did affect me now, I rarely buy soda at school anyways, usually water (and they'll obviously still be selling that), and more days than not my mom lets me take the car to school, so I could just go off-campus and get soda/junk food anyways. I feel kind of bad for the lower grades, though, but eh. The intention of him doing this is actually good, but it's going to be pointless. Well, I don't know about other schools, but seeing as we can go off-campus during lunch (well, with parent permission, but most people get it, and they don't really check your ID cards to make sure you have permission), we can get junk food and soda anyways. If people are that desperate for it, they'll get it anyways. And a lot of high school students have jobs, and their own money, so they can just get soda and junk after school. I mean, he's all "I want to root out obesity and unhealthiness early" but... well, this isn't going to solve that. Meh, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see it working. Too many ways to easily get around it.
brokenrecord: (Default)
The O.C. )

I also saw Reunion, but since it's the first episode of it, I don't have much to say. I didn't think it was the best show ever or anything, but I thought it was pretty good. It was cheesy at some parts, but I'm just tied in by the whole plot. I think it's a really interesting premise, and I don't know, I just am really eager to see how they change each episode. Plus, I really liked Carla. She was too sweet.

My mom got me this... Visa Buxx card. It's like a debit card for teenagers, so you can like learn how to handle money before actually having to be responsible for anything. It works like a credit card, but my mom sets the limit. She was all "Ok, I put $300 on this. I'm expecting this should last you--" and I was thinking like... 3 months at the very least, but then she was all "--one month". I'm like "...uh. Wow. Yeah. I think I can do that." It's awesome too, because I can finally get things online. And DVDs! It'll be good for getting DVDs. So yeah, this is pretty freaking awesome. Especially if my mom's going to allow me $300 every month. I don't even think I could spend that much. I mean I could, but I'm like... overly cautious, because I don't want to spend too much too fast, so it'll probably end up being November and I'll only have spent like $50. Heh. But yeah. I am pleased about this.

First day of school! )

The O.C. and Reunion are premiering tonight. I have to go to a football game from 5:30 to 10-ish, though, so I won't have a chance to watch them until Friday night. Oh well.

All right, I suppose I should attempt to finish my math homework now.
