Jan. 14th, 2010 12:04 pmHappy 21st birthday to me! I did stuff with friends last night for my birthday since one of them is leaving today. We saw Up in the Air which I thought was very good. Today my mom is going to take me shopping and then family stuff tonight I guess.
I finished Criminal Minds yesterday!
I LOVE REID. I knew I would going into the show, but I didn't expect to love him as much as I ended up loving him. He's just amazing. (And I am more attracted to Matthew Gray Gubler than I can remember being attracted to like pretty much any other celebrity ever and I have no idea why, but yeah.) I don't even know where to begin with him, because he's just awesome. The episodes that focus on him tend to be my favorites.
I didn't really care about Elle until the very end of her time on the show where I didn't like her. I can understand her reasoning behind shooting the guy, but I still think it was a horrible thing to do. So I was glad she was gone after that. Gideon I also never really cared about. I didn't hate him, but I didn't miss him when he was gone. Rossi I still kind of forget is on the show a lot of the time. I don't know why. I just don't care about him either, I guess.
I love J.J. a lot. She's probably my second favorite after Reid, although I also really like Morgan. Emily took some time to grow on me, but suddenly in the third season I found myself really loving her, and now I enjoy her character a lot. Hotch similarly took awhile to grow on me. I definitely like him now, though, and I felt so horrible for him when his ex-wife was killed. Hotch's arc is so sad. He starts off season 1 happily married and his wife is pregnant and everything's going well for him, and now he's gone through a divorce, barely saw his son, and then his wife was killed by a serial killer who was actively trying to hurt Hotch, making it much harder for him to deal with the death than if it were by accident or not directly tied to him. It's just very sad. He needs to catch a break.
Do not want Morgan/Garcia. idk why. I guess I never felt chemistry between them. I mean, they were always very flirty, but it felt more like best friends who joked around all the time. I just... don't get anything out of their relationship. ...I'd be cool with Garcia/J.J., though. (Although I really like J.J. with Will and their family. I'm kind of terrified that they're going to kill him off at some point, which would suck.) And I totally ship Morgan/Reid (which I think where most of my dnw for Morgan/Garcia came from. Also because I'm not super invested in her. She hasn't been developed enough; I feel like I know absolutely zero about her other than she's plucky and smily and a tech genius). I don't know. I also just find them boring together. I love them as platonic friends who love each other loads but never in a romantic way.
Also I hate that whole thing with Morgan advising her not to go on the date with the hot guy and then she went out with him to spite Morgan and then the guy shot her. Why couldn't a hot guy just be interested in her? lkjadf blah.
SURPRISE NICHOLAS BRENDON! I heard he had guest starred on the show, but I didn't realize he had a recurring role throughout several seasons and hasn't actually been written off the show yet! I like him and Garcia together. They need to stay together.
I went from watching the season 2 finale with Frank the serial killer straight to watching Dexter season 2 with my parents with Lundy the serial killer catcher. It was a weird juxtaposition. And I couldn't help thinking while watching Dexter "Dude you guys have been chasing after the Bay Harbor Butcher forever now; the BAU would have found Dexter in like a day." Yeah, I know they're fictional characters.
I like how the show is kind of subtle and you only see glimpses of most of the characters' lives outside the BAU, but at the same time, I hate when we go through like 10 episodes of Reid getting like 5 lines an episode and everything is directly related to the case. I guess I want a little more focus on the characters than the unsubs.
The cases are actually way more interesting than I thought they would be. Usually on procedurals I don't really follow or care about the cases (which is why I don't watch very many), but they're actually extremely well done on this show.
The fact that they use a Cognitive Interview a couple times in this show is pretty kickass, I must say. I did some research involving it last semester, and it is so much better to use than a standard interview. I also love so much when Reid mentioned that Freud had been debunked. Most TV still acts like Freud's theories are the most prominent and important psychological theories and that that's all psych is about, when in reality the vast majority of psychologists disregarded his theories over 20 years ago. There is some stuff they get wrong (using hypnosis to recover repressed memories: NO NO NO. Also, there is absolutely zero evidence for memories being repressed in childhood and then later being recovered), but that stuff helps so much.
4.24 is so my favorite. It has wet dripping Reid and Reid in danger and Morgan being concerned over Reid and then at the very end it's JJ and Hotch talking to their families, the people they love, and then Morgan with Reid at the hospital. This helped my shipping of them so much, considering they have so little time together most of the time. I don't even have a great reason for why I ship them other than I adore Reid and want him to be with someone and I like the little interaction they have.
Also, REID IS AT UCI IN 5.08. UCI IS LIKE 3 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. L;KAJSDFLKJ (Ok, yes, fictional character, BUT STILL. I was not expecting them to mention Irvine in this show ever, even though it's not like it's a small town or anything.)
Anyways, overall I really love the show and I'm glad I checked it out. I didn't really think it would be my thing, but it's very good.
