Ok, so I spent the weekend basically watching every episode of Brothers and Sisters, which was kind of stupid, because I was planning on saving it for either winter break if the strike ends early, or for if the strike goes on a long time and they run out of episodes for all the shows I love to watch. But the thing is, well. It started because I was doing this presentation for my Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies class (it's about technology in relation to gender, race, and sexuality) on queer representation on television today (which, by the way, was totally the most fun presentation I've ever done, because I basically just spent 40 minutes talking about Ugly Betty and Queer as Folk and Doctor Who and Torchwood and well just about every show I've watched that has gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, or intersexed characters), and I was doing "research" for it (basically just reading through the Sexuality on TV thread at TWoP to make sure I wasn't forgetting any major representations on shows I've seen) and I kept reading that the character of Kevin was one of the best representations of a gay male on television in that he wasn't stereotypical and they actually showed him having relationships and kissing men and then treated his relationships just as straight characters' relationships. So I decided to just watch a few episodes before and talk briefly about his character, but then I got hooked on the third episode and I couldn't stop watching this weekend. Which wasn't good when I had a test Monday and spent most of Sunday finishing up in time for the episode that night.

Um, but anyways. Long-winded way of saying I really, really love this show.
First off, this show reminds me a lot of Everwood, which isn't incredibly surprising, because I don't think I've watched a family drama like this since Everwood was canceled (unless you count Gilmore Girls, but that's generally considered more of a comedy, and anyways, it's very different in tone from Everwood and this show), and Greg Berlanti is an executive producer, and maybe showrunner for season 1? Not sure entirely. And plus there's Emily VanCamp and Treat Williams was on for a few episodes. But yeah, it reminds me of Everwood, and I totally didn't realize how much I really missed that show until I started watching this one.

I like that all the characters are given pretty much equal screentime. Like, I thought the show was going to be all about Kitty because it always seemed to be billed to me as her starring in the show, and I thought everyone else would be secondary. But I love that the other siblings actually get substantial storylines. Well, except Tommy for most of the first season. But he's my least favorite sibling, so I'm fine with him getting less screentime (and I'm really not enjoying his adultery storyline this season. I really wish they'd lay off the affairs. First was Holly, which, fine, but then Joe and now Tommy. They better not have Kevin cheat on Jason with Scotty, or I'll be really upset). But yeah. I love that the other characters don't just disappear for a few episodes (like, that happened a lot on Veronica Mars in the third season, which I guess was partially because they didn't have enough money to get all the characters for every episode so they were only contracted for like 11 or whatever, but then you'd have like 3-4 episodes straight of no Wallace or no Mac, and it'd be like... wtf, where did they go and why is no one mentioning their absence and such).

I absolutely love Kevin. He's totally my favorite character. I love how entirely sarcastic and cynical he is. And how he's a total gossip. Well, not just him. I love how all the characters are utterly incapable of keeping a secret from each other. But it seems like him more so than others always knows all the gossip and always tells everyone else whatever he knows. And he always has the most hilarious lines. And I really do love how his relationships are given equal weight to the others' relationships.

I really love Sarah and Justin, too. I think they're tied for second. And I like Nora a lot too. And Rebecca. Really, I love most of the characters. I don't like Joe, Tommy, Holly (well, she can be ok. I just don't really care one way or another about her), Julia (well, I did until this season, but now she's being ridiculous. I don't care if she does blame Tommy for William's death; it's terribly cruel to deny him the first month or so (depending on how long she's gone) of Elizabeth's life. It's just not fair.), um, who else. I don't know. That's probably about it.

I don't know. I think I'm running out of things to say. I just really enjoy this show.

I can't believe I'm going to be home again just a week from today. The past week or so has gone by really quickly. It's good, though. I'm really looking forward to being home again.

I'm so glad you gave Brothers & Sisters a chance. Oddly enough, Justin is my favorite character, because he's so visibly flawed and he's damaged (usually) in that sexy way that makes men irresistible. I think he managed to drift into full-on woobie territory this week with his outbursts, but I still love the guy. With the Walker women, I'm totally unable to choose a favorite. I think Kitty's awesome, despite her political affiliation and I adore her relationship with Robert, because it's so cute and natural and much like everything on the show, perfect in that fucked up way that Everwood used to be. Can you tell this show owns me? Also, maybe it's because I've been a fan of Scotty/Kevin in the past, but I'd be open to them rekindling their relationship...even if Kevin did have to cheat on Jason in the process, I know I'm a terrible person *sigh* Here's hoping the writer's strike doesn't cause too much damage.

I'm so glad I did too, because it's really awesome. It is perfect in the way that Everwood was. I do really love Justin a lot, too. I think I do like him more than Sarah, so he is my second favorite character. I didn't like Kitty in the first episode or so, mostly because of her political affiliation I think, but also because I liked most of her siblings more, but yeah, I do like her now, and I do really love her relationship with Robert. I don't dislike Scotty at all, I'd be fine with them getting back together, I'm just tired of all the adultery storylines on the show. If we hadn't already had Joe, Tommy, and William, I don't think I would be as bothered by it.

I'm a massive fan of Brothers & Sisters. My sister got me hooked on the 1st season, and since then I haven't missed an episode. Sarah is easily my favorite sister, but Kitty is a very close second. I too love Kevin, I love how he tells it like it is, and doesn't give a damn what other people think. Justin comes next, but I can't stand Tommy sometimes. I wish he would just stand up to Julia. What she's doing to him is so unfair, I wanna smack her.

Thanks for the add :D

It's such an awesome show! I really wish I had started watching it sooner. I didn't like Kitty at first, but I actually do like her now, and I really like her relationship with Robert. I liked the storyline with Tommy when he was first trying to have a baby with Julia, back in season 1, but I think that's just about the only storyline I've liked of his.

You're welcome! Thanks for adding me in the first place. :D

Oh! How I love Kitty and Robert's relationship. It's so sweet, cute, and innocent. He's so in love with her, and its adroable. She's one lucky woman :)

Ah, Tommy. I have this feeling that he's gonna have an afair with Rebecca's friend now that Julia is out of the picture. And if that happened, I don't think I'll ever forgive him. Even if what she's doing to him is so very wrong.

Aw, you're welcome. I'm always looking to make new friends! :D

She is! I'm really glad they put her with such a great character. I'm glad he's a regular this season.

I really just dislike where they're going with Tommy and Julia this season. I really preferred when they got minimal screentime.

Me too, me too. Rob Lowe is a great actor, I absolutely love him. Especially in his younger years :]

I could not agree more! They really do need to cut back their screentime to a minimum, if they wanna protect themselves from crazy fans like myself.

I know, he's really awesome. I watched him on The West Wing so it's kind of weird since he was involved in politics and ran for some sort of office on that show, too, he just had rather different political opinions. But besides the difference in political views, he's almost the same character, in a way.
