Went to the orientation meeting for volunteering at the animal shelter earlier today. I really like the place and the people and what it sounds like I'll be doing as a volunteer. The only downside is that you have to have a tetanus shot, and the last time I had one I was 6, meaning I'd have to get another to volunteer there. And for me, this is actually enough to make me not want to volunteer there. I mean, you thought I was afraid of spiders before? That's nothing compared to my fear of needles. I really have no tolerance for pain at all. Hate shots, hate needles. guh. Yes, I am a complete wuss.

I'm still going to do it anyways, which is pretty big for me. Tiffany came to the orientation meeting too, but I don't know if she'll do it. She was as put off as I was by the tetanus shot, and she said it seemed like too much trouble to get started (have to go to training first and it fills up really quickly, so it might take till late August for us to be able to start volunteering). I disagree, but oh well. [shrug] Now I just want to go get the tetanus shot and get it over with before I lose my nerve. The sooner I do it, the less time I'll have to worry about it, and the sooner it'll be over.

But yeah, the rest of the animal shelter seems cool. I guess you have to choose whether you want to train to work with dogs, cats, or rabbits. I actually think I want to train to work with cats, which is pretty surprising, as I've always liked dogs more than cats. I still do, like if I were to choose between getting a dog or cat, I'd choose a dog (well that's also partially because I have 4 birds, and a dog would be more likely to get along with the birds than a cat, I would assume), but I don't know. Something about working with the cats really appealed to me. And the thing is, after awhile, I could just go to a training session for dogs and then volunteer there as well. So it's not really an either/or thing, but I think that's what I want to start with.

Nothing else happening this weekend. I have to write an essay for SAT class, so I suppose I should start that soon. I'm not actually that concerned with it, though. Normally in school, all our essays are in-class essays, so I'm used to writing essays in an hour without knowing the prompt beforehand. Having 4 days to write an essay is heaven. Well, 3 now, since I didn't do anything yesterday, but still. I should do it tomorrow, I guess. Monday there's another SAT diagnostic test to see if we're improving any and to see what we need to work on. It's from like... 4-8 or 4:30-8 or something like that. =/ Oh well.

Edit: Got the results back from the AP US History test. I somehow managed a 4, which is insane, considering I didn't study at all for it, really. Definitely satisfied with that score.

I have total confidence that you will keep your confidence for the sake of the aminals!
I had to learn to get over my fear of needles, but it sort of got greatly diminished when I had a really bad bout with mono and had to get blood taken like daily for quite some time.

Heh, thanks. I don't get shots very often (last one I was in 4th or 5th grade) or blood taken much, so I think that probably just makes it worse.

Yeah, I mean, I'm still not jumping up and down doing the happy dance at the prospect of needles, but it did make me somewhat more casual about it.
I find the best tactic is to make sure you are looking elsewhere and doing slow deep breathing. I always sort of explain that I will not be looking so just let me stare at the ceiling tiles in happiness and slowly breathe. I think the more you tense the more it's liable to hurt. But if I'm just looking at a distant point of have my eyes closed and keep breathing I sometimes barely even notice when it happens.
*hug* That's for courage!

Congrats on your score! I would've been happy with a 4 in History [since I know I did better on Chem]. So now, I won't be one of those people who whines about not having Kessler and getting a 3 on the test.

I'm thrilled with a 4. Actually, I wouldn't been happy with a 3, since that's still passing, and most colleges still accept it for credit. So, yeah. A 4 is awesome. Meh, I don't know if I would've done better if I had Kessler. I don't think that affected it any, though. I mean, I think maybe if I'd studied, there'd be a chance of getting a 5. Maybe next year I'll wiser and actually study for AP exams! ...but probably not.

I know a lot of people like him more just cause he's more dynamic/less boring.

I liked Sorey, though. I didn't find him boring. The only part I didn't like about my class were the people in it because they were all idiots.

Oh yay for teh score.

ANd dont sweat it about the needle, I had a shot about a week ago, and i was till waiting for it and the lady was liek ok we're done, i shocked, I didnt even feel it.

OMG i so wanna volunteer at an animal shelter, wow i am so jealous.

Thank you!

I've only had 2 shots in the past where it's only felt like a prick, and they were by the same lady, and she doesn't work at that place anymore. Plus, both the last time I had blood drawn and the last time I had a shot, the people doing it managed to bruise me.

Heh, yeah, the place seems really cool. I'm really excited to volunteer there, besides the shot.

Oh really not the same lady, that sucks, Yea sometimes you do get a bruise, but it could be worse hehe, sorry i am probably not very helpful.

Oh so jealous, i tried to look online yesterday for places near me, but When i thik about it i think i need a job before i go volunteering heheh

Yeah, it really isn't the worst thing in the world. It'll hurt for a few moments, but by the end of the day, it'll be fine. I just need to work up the nerve to actually do it.

Heh, well I'm doing mine for school credit, since we need 100 hours to graduate. And, plus, it looks good on college applications. But it looks like it'll be really cool, so I think that I'll continue volunteering there even after I've gotten all my hours.

sounds liek you can do it, hehe, you'll be fine, hehe

i would love to work with animals but they always seem to bite me....

Awwwww. :( I've only been scratched by animals before (the next door neighbor's cat and my own rabbits). Well, my birds bite me all the time, but... they're birds, that's what they do. And it doesn't hurt at all, so it doesn't matter. But since I'm a junior volunteer (between 14-18), I can only work with the more friendly, docile animals, so I'm not too worried about getting bitten or scratched anyways.

i think im still probaly going to do it. dispite the shot. >.<

i think im goign to start off just working with the bunnies because it seems kind of easier and i've had one before so yeah.. but later i wana work with the doggies too =)

Haha, nice. I think I'll start with cats, then do the dog training, then later do the bunny training, 'cause I think it'd be cool to work with bunnies too, and I had 2 for a long time. So, yes.

Oh God. I should have gotten my tetanus booster 2 years ago but I'm deathly afraid of getting it done.

AP scores *cringes* I don't know whether I want to check mine or not, but my curiosity will get the best of me I know. Are they posted on the internet? *runs off to check*

I should've been going to the doctor for years for checkups, but I haven't been since I was 6. This is probably not the smartest thing to do, but oh well.

Heh, I know. I was afraid to open mine. I don't know if they're posted on the internet. They should be mailed, but if they're not, I believe there's a number (I think you can find it on collegeboard.com) that you can call that will tell you your score.
