Concert post time!

So I got there (the second time) just at 3 PM and got a space in the parking lot really close to the venue, which was awesome. When I got in line, there actually weren't that many people there yet, which was also good. I brought my iPod in line which helped pass the time a little, and I called a few people about various things, which also helped. The most annoying girl was in front of me, though. She was 24 and she was acting as a guardian for her little brother (who was 18, so I don't know why he needed a guardian to a concert but whatever, not my business), and she was one of those people who thinks she knows everything about everything. Like, she and her brother were getting to know these other two girls in line and one of the security guards who was hanging around, and any time anyone brought ANYTHING up, she had some experience with it. It was like "You've been to Disneyland? That's one of my two jobs! Oh yes, I'm a screenwriter in L.A., that's my main job. Oh, you were in the military for 5 years? 5 people in my family have gone to West Point! You've donated blood? I wanted to donate blood once!" The worst of it, though, was that she kept advising everyone about concerts in general because she had been to ONE Him concert like a year ago. Just... what? YOU'VE BEEN TO ONE CONCERT. HIM AND PANIC/MCS/THS/PP ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT BANDS. YOU DIDN'T EVEN GO TO A CONCERT AT THE SAME VENUE. I mean, at this point, I've probably been to 20 concerts (at least 15. I lost track), but I wouldn't think that I know everything about every concert ever. Different venues have different rules, and the pit is MUCH different for different bands. But she kept giving advice (that totally wasn't even helpful or accurate) and it drove me insane. And I was stuck behind her for 3 hours. ugh.

BUT ANYWAYS. Eventually the doors opened and I got in. I was pretty far up in the crowd, too, maybe... 4 rows back from the barrier? And I'm almost positive there were some people from LJ at the barrier in front of me. I heard them mention LJ and then this text message appeared on the screen (you could text message a number and then it would appear on this screen behind the stage during the breaks and before the concert) mentioning Brendon and coffee tables and I started laughing and the group of girls started cracking up, but like no one else did, and someone was like "Did no one else get the reference?" But I'm totally shy and introverted and socially awkward, so I didn't ask if they were from LJ or introduce myself or anything. I kind of regret that now, but oh well. =/ There was a person or two between me and them, so I felt especially awkward calling across people "HEY ARE YOU GUYS ON LJ?" I ended up getting pushed away from where they were during the concert, anyways. But, um, if you were one of those people and somehow found yourself at my journal or whatever... hi! Sorry I'm creepy and socially awkward. :(

Phantom Planet: They came on right at 7 PM. They only played 5 or 6 songs; it was a really short set, like half an hour. I haven't listened to much of their stuff. I have their most recent CD and discovered I absolutely love "Do the Panic" (and have heard it somewhere before, but I have no idea where), and I, of course, have "California," but that's it. Luckily, 2 of the 5-6 songs they played were those two songs, so that made me happy. They were good live, I thought, but most of their music isn't really my thing, I guess. The Hush Sound came on in mummy costumes (I have a picture in the picture section of it!) and then they played with them on one or two songs which was AWESOME.

The Hush Sound: Oh man, I love them! I so wish their set had been longer. They played (as far as I can remember) Medicine Man, Don't Wake Me Up (didn't Brendon usually sing Patrick's part in the other shows on the tour, or am I totally making that up? In any case, I expected him to, for whatever reason, and when he didn't show up, I was sad. :( I really hope I didn't totally just make that up, though, or else I'll feel really stupid), Wine Red, Sweet Tangerine, Lions Roar, As You Cry (as this is my favorite on Goodbye Blues (well, probably. I like a lot of them, because that CD is awesome. But it's definitely up there), I was very happy about that), and Honey. Maybe also Love You Much Better? Or maybe not. I'm sure I'm adding/leaving out songs in there. Anyways, they were awesome. I was quite possibly more excited for them than any other band and I wish they had played longer (although I guess they played more songs than it felt like they did when I was actually there). I need to see them again.

During the last song, Phantom Planet came on. I don't really know how to describe how they were dressed. They were all in masks, I think? And the lead singer, Alex, was only wearing his underwear. It was amusing. I love how much the bands on the tour are actually friends and get along and such.

Motion City Soundtrack: Ah, I love these guys. I've kind of... grown out of their music some? Like, they used to be my favorite band, and now I'm kind of tired of their music. But I still really like it, and they are seriously the nicest guys in any band I've ever met (which... ok, isn't THAT many bands, but whatever. I've met a good amount). They also play really awesome live shows, IMO. They played (again, totally leaving out/adding songs. Especially since I haven't listened to their newest CD very much) The Future Freaks Me Out (ah I still love this song ridiculous amounts. Favorite from the first CD), My Favorite Accident, L.G. Fuad, Time Turned Fragile (which, if you notice, also happens to be the name of my journal. So yeah, I like that song a bunch), Attractive Today, Everything is Alright, Makeout Kids, This Is For Real, It Had to Be You, Last Night, and Broken Heart. I feel like they played more than that so I'm pretty sure I'm leaving stuff out, but whatever.

Panic at the Disco: ugh they are so awesome. I love them. They played The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is the Press Coverage, Lying, I Write Sins, There's a Good Reason (my favorite from the first CD! Yay!), a few others from the first CD (and, ok, I know it makes me a terrible fangirl, but I really can't tell apart half the songs on the first CD. I don't know why. I've listened to it SO MUCH, seriously. And I've gotten to points where I begin to tell them apart and I have it down, and then I don't listen to it for another few weeks and all of a sudden I have no idea anymore. Also, it's been 24 hours since the concert so it's hard to remember), The Weight (ugh Brendon Urie HOW IS YOUR VOICE SO AWESOME? geez. I have the version they did from the AOL sessions and he's awesome in it even though his voice cracks a good amount, but he was way better doing it live. It was just amazing. I'm so happy he did that), We're So Starving, Nine in the Afternoon, She's a Handsome Woman, That Green Gentleman, Northern Downpour, Folkin' Around (!! Favorite! I heard that they would switch off shows between that and Holy Spaces, and I like Holy Spaces, but I love Folkin' Around so much more. Ugh, it was awesome), Pas de Cheval, Behind the Sea (and there were BUBBLES! It was awesome), and Mad as Rabbits. Oh, Panic. How so awesome? I need to see them again now. Part of me wishes I had gone to Vegas to see the show right before, but then the sensible part of me reminds myself that there's no chance in hell my mom would have ever let me go to Vegas alone to see a band overnight, even if I am 19 and an adult and have my own car and such. Ugh but I need to see them again. It better not be another 2 1/2 years before I see them again.

I sadly couldn't hear much of what anyone said during the Panic set because people were screaming in my ears. ugh. Annoying. Seriously, you really DON'T need to screech "I LOVE YOU RYAN" because 1) as far as I know, he's still dating and totally in love with Keltie, 2) there's NO WAY he can tell who you are in a mass of screaming fans, and 3) even if he could tell who you are, he's probably not going to go "OH HEY I LOVE YOU TOO LET'S HAVE LOTS OF SEX AND BABIES OK?" ugh.

Also, the pit was awful. There was no pushing or moving for the first two bands, barely any for the third. There was much more for Panic, but it was still very... tame. I don't know. I mean, I don't go to concerts just for the moshing, but when the pit gets much tighter, you get to take your feet off the ground more and bend in different directions more and I don't know. It makes for a less painful experience, IMO. But there was really none, which made me sad. Oh well. It did make it much easier to take pictures.

Yeah, so, my concert recap is kind of boring. Basically just the songs they played. But I really couldn't hear anything they were saying (other than about Brendon's new tattoo at the beginning and him being sore after that). But! I make up for it in pictures! I took loads of pictures and deleted a lot of the blurry ones between sets. I ended up with 174 pictures at home, and after deleting the super blurry ones that I hadn't already gotten rid of, I had 80. And there are still some blurry ones in here, but for those either I got very few shots of the subject (ugh WHY ARE DRUMMERS SO DIFFICULT TO TAKE PICTURES OF?) or the color was really pretty or the composition was really nice or I just felt like it. I have LOADS of pictures of the lead singers of all the bands because where I was situated, it was easiest to take pictures of them. It was impossible to take pictures of the right side of the stage (well, mostly for MCS and Panic. I was in a better position for Phantom Planet and The Hush Sound) and all the drummers, and ok to take pictures of the left side of the stage. But anyways. They're organized by band, and I tried to put the crappier ones earlier and the better ones later in each section so as to drop your expectations before showing you the better pictures. Because yeah, there are very few pictures I think are really amazing, but there are a couple.

It took me awhile to figure out how to take not completely blurry shots and what settings to have my camera on and such. I mean, I still took a load of blurry and crappy pictures for Panic, but I had definitely gotten much better by their set, so the pictures get progressively better. (IMO. And that might not be totally true between THS and Phantom Planet, but I think it's true for the rest of the show.)

Oh, and two more things: first, I got a nice new awesome digital camera for Christmas, but I was afraid they wouldn't allow cameras in and I'd have to toss it or put it back in my car or whatever, or even if I got it in that it would get banged up, so I ended up taking my old crappy digital camera that's somewhat broken that's just been sitting in my room. So the pictures already weren't going to be super quality. Also, the lens cover on the camera was broken for a long time and so it got a bunch of dust and dirt in there, and, consequently, when I take pictures with flash, they turn out very grainy or with a bunch of spots. Also, the second thing, everytime I turned my camera off (which I would do to save batteries), when I turned it back on, flash would be on automatically and I would forget. And I didn't want to take pictures with flash for various reasons, but I ended up taking a bunch with flash on anyways accidentally. So yeah. Just those warnings. Now for pictures!

Phantom Planet

...so I might be finding Alex (lead singer of Phantom Planet) incredibly hot right now. Also, is it just me that he reminds of Brendon Urie? Because he totally does. Maybe not so much in this shot (or any of these shots), but he totally reminded me of Brendon when he was right there in front of me.

Mummy!Bob! This is from when The Hush Sound joined Phantom Planet for a song or two during their set. It was pure, unadulterated awesome.

First horizontal shot! The vertical shots made it much easier to cut out people's heads (although the vast majority of the shots still include people's heads), and I just like vertical composition more. But I really liked this shot of the whole band.

The Hush Sound

I know it's ridiculously blurry and I should have deleted it, but I don't care. LOOK AT HOW PRETTY GRETA IS. UGH I wish this shot was sharper. I also wish that Greta was in a position where I could have gotten better pictures of her, but unfortunately during THS I was more to the right, and it was really hard to see her from where I was. :(

Half of the THS pictures I have are basically this shot, with varying degrees of blur. But whatever, I really liked the colors in the shots, and I was sad about my lack of good THS pictures, so I kept them anyways.

During the last song when Phantom Planet came on-stage in various states of dress, for some reason one of them put sunglasses on Bob. I don't really know why, but... yeah. I found it amusing, anyways.

The lead singer of Phantom Planet in his underwear! Hee.

I am so happy I got these last two shots. When I was looking through my pictures between sets, I was afraid I hadn't gotten any good shots of Greta, but then when I came home, I found these and they made me so happy. Pretty Greta!

Motion City Soundtrack

This is the clearest shot I got of Matt. :( I'm sad. At this point I think I was in the center, so I could basically only get decent shots of the lead singer. Also, at the beginning there were as many tall people in front of me, but for some reason during MCS and Panic, I got stuck behind two guys who were at least 5'9" (which might not seem REALLY tall, but I'm 5'3", so it made it difficult to see anything that wasn't between their heads.

DRUMMER! It was SO HARD to get pictures of drummers. Especially Spencer, because any time he was remotely in the shot, Ryan would block Spencer's face with his guitar. BUT LOOK! DRUMMER!

Apparently I lied about the only decent picture of Matt above, because I'm pretty sure now looking at this photo that this is also Matt. But it's hard to tell! Both pictures are pretty blurry. =/ Oh well.

I was trying to fix the contrast and coloring and stuff in this photo (I did a little to all the photos, but not that much) and I think I might have gone a little overboard and actually made it look worse. blah. But look how clear the shot is! I was getting much better and that at that point.

MOOG. (Coolest name for an instrument ever y/y?) I wish I had gotten more clear shots of the moog.

Panic at the Disco

Yeah, ok, Ryan Ross is a little difficult to find in this shot. But it's like Where's Waldo! Kind of. Maybe? Whatever, I have an inexplicable liking of this photo anyways. If you ignore the hand, it's kind of cool, I think. You can also kind of see that Ryan is on the shoulders of a guy crouching down. This was at the very end when they played their last song and the other bands came back on stage and fooled around and one of them carried around Ryan on his shoulders, but I can't remember who it was. And I think I also enjoy this shot because of Ryan's grin. I like Ryan being happy.

SPENCER! I wouldn't have included this shot, but it's probably the closest shot I got of Spencer. Even though his face is totally a blur and the colors are gross and it's all grainy. LOOK AT THE SPENCER.

Jon! I had a serious lack of Jon pictures, I must say. This was at the point where I was slightly more to the left and so I was getting ok shots of Ryan and great shots of Brendon, but no Jon. :(

Yay also a clear shot of Ryan! Terribly grainy, but still! AND OH WOW SPENCER SMITH THERE YOU ARE. I TOTALLY JUST NOTICED THAT YOU CAN SEE HIS FACE REALLY, REALLY WELL HERE. (At least, in comparison to the other shots of Spencer I got.)

I wish those hands weren't there SO MUCH because the rest of the shot is awesome and I don't have a whole lot of good Jon shots.

First shot of the set! There was a ridiculous amount of cameras out at the beginning, and it made it really hard to get any shots.

Ok, I know the shot of Brendon is all blurry, but I kind of like that the bubbles are all in focus and he's in the background. This was during Behind the Sea, when they made all the bubbles, obviously.

This is during The Weight. They just had the blue screen up behind them during that song unlike the others, I guess because normally they don't play it? They said it was just a bonus for it being the last show of the tour, so maybe that's why they had no images? I don't know. I'm so happy they played that song, though.

I SPY A SPENCER.

Brendon and Ryan! I loved their interaction during the show.

lksjdf singing together! I remember when Ryan stepped over to Brendon, I was like "OH GOD I MUST GET A SHOT OF THIS." And then I was so terrified it would just be a blur of faces and lights and when I saw the shot, I was like "OK THE RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF UGLY SHOTS I TOOK HAS BEEN TOTALLY WORTH IT JUST FOR THIS SHOT BEING CLEAR-ISH."

LOOK, IT'S ALL OF THE BAND! It was nearly impossible to get any shots of all four of them at once, so I was happy when that happened.

Ryan is a tambourine MASTER. Just so you know.

Yay more singing together!

I don't know why, but Brendon suddenly kneeled down to the ground during this shot. But look! You can see Spencer! Kind of! And also possibly Jon and Eric interacting! Sort of!

It totally looks like I used a red gradient on like... lighten or something on this shot, but I totally did not. The red is all due to the lighting, which is totally awesome, IMO.

Almost all the band! Stupid Ryan Ross blocking Spencer with his guitar. >:O

This is from the end, during Panic's last song, when the other bands came back on stage. This is possibly who lifted Ryan onto his shoulders, but I'm not positive.
