Dec. 21st, 2005 09:56 pmWell, today was sure an interesting day. I was thinking "Man, once school's over today, all will be good" since I had 2 quizzes (well ok one didn't happen, but I thought it was going to so I studied for it anyways) and an essay on Pride and Prejudice and tomorrow I don't have much of anything. Totally wrong, though.
So, our concert was tonight. We had some time between the end of school and our call time, so we decided to see Pride and Prejudice at the UCI market place theaters. (I'll comment on the movie in a bit) So once it was over, I started driving back, and I had just started going on Campus Drive (the street that both UCI and the high school I go to are on) and my car stopped. I still had some momentum so I was able to pull over to the side of the road, but it was really freaky. Nothing like that's ever happened to me before. So it was me, Emma, Jackie, Jessica, and Soan in the car, and Soan and Jessica had awhile before their call time, but Emma, Jackie, and I had to be there at 5:15 at the latest, and it was already like 4:50 and none of us were in our concert clothes yet. Yeah. Not good. So I called my mom and then AAA and it was arranged that my dad would come from work to give me the car so I could drive us to the concert and he could wait for AAA and my mom would walk down to the school (because I live like... a 2 minute drive from the school, and it's only that long because of the long signal). Sometime while waiting, Mike Tseng was driving Justin down Campus and recognized our car and stopped. So we explained what was going on and he ended up driving Emma, Jackie, and me to school (because at this point it was 5:12 and we were going to be very late) while the others waited for my dad/AAA. When we got there, my mom wasn't there yet so I spent like 10 minutes freaking out because she had my clothes. But we told Mrs. Bentley and she understood and everything ended up working out.
The annoying thing is that once my dad arrived to the car, he tried turning it on and it worked. I swear I tried starting it up again at least three freaking times and it didn't start up any of the times. But it worked out all right, in any case. Really freaking weird, though.
Anyways. The Pride and Prejudice essay I wrote wasn't too bad. I don't think I was incredibly insightful but it could've been worse, and I think I pulled at least a B-, which is all I really want.
The Pride and Prejudice movie was actually better than I thought. I was expecting it to be pretty terrible, honestly. There were some things I didn't like (like them being about to kiss during his first proposal - wtf?! No! No! I get the "OMG I HATE YOU BUT I SECRETLY WANT TO JUMP YOU" thing they do in current movies, but that's totally not what's going on there, and even if it was, they would never, ever kiss before they were engaged. I don't even think they'd kiss when they became engaged! I think it'd probably be until they were married before they could kiss. But definitely not then. And also, the last scene was just terrible cheesy), but overall it wasn't too bad. And it was so pretty! Bingley looked crazy, though he was pretty adorable and sweet. And I actually liked the actor who played Darcy, but I think I like Colin Firth more. But yeah, it wasn't too bad, really.
The concert turned out... pretty mediocre. I played in a quartet in the lobby before it started with Emma, Mukul, and Mike Schneider, and we hadn't played the piece in like a week, so it was terrible. First Mukul had the wrong part out but didn't realize it until about 10 measures in, so we freaking stopped and started again. Then at some point Mukul didn't play 2 notes and so that threw Schneider off and somehow he thought Mukul had skipped 2 lines so I guess he went down 2 lines? But then none of us were playing the same thing so Schneider and then Emma stopped and then I stopped and people started applauding and were all "OMG YOU GUYS ARE SO GOOD!" and we're like "...uh?" and started at a random measure and finished the piece. The sax ensemble was decent but we've played it better, which is the same for the Wind Ensemble. Jazz band I think was one of the better times we played the pieces, but that's not saying anything, and I think we were still pretty mediocre.
Anyways. Overall, a very stressful, bizarre day. But I'm just glad that my essay is over. And tomorrow all I have is a chemistry test 2nd period (which is the first period of the day tomorrow because it's block schedule) and I'm not worried about it because I barely pay attention in chem and I barely think about the class, and I have a 91.9% so I figure it doesn't really matter. I could get like a C on the test and still have an A-, so yeah. Not too concerned. But I don't think I'll do that bad, anyways. And then after that we have like nothing in French and nothing in Wind Ensemble. And then I'm free for 2 weeks! Woohoo! :D
guh. Tired now. Should probably look over chem notes and then sleep. Oh, and "wrap" (i.e., put the bows that just stick on things onto the things I got for people) the presents. And also decide who exactly I'm giving presents to, because I'm not sure I have it figured out.
