Watched another episode of Dead Like Me (I've finished up to episode 6) and then went to the training session at the animal shelter. It wasn't much different than the orientation, other than that it was more in depth and one of the staff took out a dog and showed how to work with a dog when its out and such. Now all I have to do is fill out some forms, show proof that I got my tetanus shot, get assigned a veteran volunteer buddy, find a time that's good for both of us, and the volunteer will show me what to do with the animals and how things work and such.

Bobcats came out again this morning.

I think I was wrong about seeing the three bobcat children yesterday. I think the bobcat that was lying down was the mother, and I just didn't realize it because she was lying down and it was hard to see how large she was. Only saw these two this morning, the mother was nowhere to be seen.

Ok, now for more Dead Like Me.

Where are these bobcats? That is so crazy, is it in someones back yard? Or is that the shelter?

They're in my backyard, actually. There's this really tiny almost field between my house and the house below mine on one side, and I assume they live in that area. A field makes it sound too large, as it's really, really small, but that's the closest I can describe it. We only see them in the summer, and we've been seeing them for 2 years now. They pop up every once and awhile in our backyard. They're really adorable. The pictures were all taken through the blinds/screen door when I was in my house, which is the reason for the random white strips or kind of criss-crossed pattern in all of them.

That is wild, I'm blown away. We have ground hogs & turtles but I've never seen a wild animal like that. What do they eat? Are any of your neighbors scared or try to get rid of them? (the gardeners in my neighborhood go insane when the groundhog eats their plants, luckily they are protected by the state as wild life, i hate when people can't appreciateother living things)

Yeah, it is pretty crazy. We have loads of coyotes in the area, but they're more in the hills and not in people's backyards (though they do venture near sometimes - one killed my next door neighbor's cat years ago). And we've had mountain lions in the area before. They eat different sorts of small animals: rabbits, small rodents, etc. Maybe birds, I'm not sure. I don't know about our neighbors (I think they mostly hang out in our backyard, I don't know if they've ever ventured anywhere else. I suppose it's pretty likely that they have), but when we first saw them a few years ago, my mom called either animal control or the animal shelter about them, and they told us that they were fine and it was highly unlikely that they'd hurt us, so we've just... let them be.

I somehow forgot that in other parts of the country, there are different animals roaming free. I saw a rabbit a few weeks ago and it was just..beautiful, I had not seen one in years. And I'm in the suburbs of NJ, but it's NJ, we are tearing all of the trees down.

Heh, yeah, I know what you mean. It's actually kind of bizarre that we have bobcats and very occasionally mountain lions, as I live in Orange County and while there are some hills and stuff behind my house, I'm right in the middle of suburbia. That makes being able to see the bobcats in my backyard even more awesome, I suppose.

Heh, ok. Figured I'd offer.

Hee, that's awesome. I want to see! I've never seen it, but it'd be nice to practice my French. Which, uh, is not very good, since, duh, only going into French 4 next year. But still.

Those bobcats are so cute, omg. In the winter, we get deer and foxes coming down from the woods to find food, but it's usually late at night so I can't get good pictures of them.

Oh wow, that's really cool. The bobcats are just the opposite: never see them at night, but they come out and run around during the day pretty often.

asdfiohawoefhiawehif. they're so cute! i thought you went outside to take the pics at first before you mentioned it was through the window and i was going to ask why didnt they attack you. =)

i wana a pet bobcat. ...yep.

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/brokenrecord__/
They are. I really, really wanted to go outside to take pictures of them. sigh. Actually, I don't think they would've attacked. The first day we saw them this year, my mom started to pull up the blinds so I could get a better picture, and as soon as they saw us, the ran away. Although, if the mother was there, I wouldn't have been surprised if she attacked us.

Haha, nice. I want a pet cat, actually. Readlly badly, all of a sudden. It's random, since I've always really wanted a dog. [shrug] Bobcats in the backyard is as close as I can come, I suppose.
