I started watching Our Mutual Friend on Netflix Instant Watch and found out after getting through the first two parts that the original version is 360 minutes in all, while the Netflix version is 300 minutes. I wasn't sure if there was a point in continuing to watch since a full hour appears to be cut out, but by the time I figured it out, I was already hooked and wanted to see what happened. It's next on my list of books to read, though, once I finish North and South (I'm about halfway done now! It's slow-going since I'm pretty much only reading 5-10 chapters a day, which isn't a lot when there is something like 52 chapters, but I think I will be through by the end of the week).
Academy Awards today! I'm so excited. Even when they don't honor what I think the best film of the year is, I love it all the same. I mean, I think they're disappointing if you expect them to be the definitive... decision, I guess, as to what the absolute best performances/film/etc. of the year are. Which I guess they are supposed to be, but film taste is obviously subjective, so it would be absolutely impossible to please everyone. So I really love watching it every year, even if the stuff I love doesn't win (with the exception of Crash winning over Brokeback Mountain, which was a travesty and I am still not over it).
Anyways, my goal for my midterm paper yesterday was to be halfway through, and I'm about 2/3 of the way through (although the first third was much simpler than the last third will be). So I only have about 2 pages left to write, which isn't too bad. My goal is to finish by an hour before the Academy Awards start so I have time both to watch the awards and to watch the final part of Our Mutual Friend, which I decided to leave to watch as motivation to get through my paper.
I have super late thoughts on Chuck and TBBT from last week:
So far I haven't minded Sarah/Shaw or Hannah/Chuck, but I kind of hate that Sarah told Shaw her real name so easily and before she told Chuck. =/ idk, I can kind of see that she was like... falling apart almost? She felt like she didn't know who Chuck was anymore and she was forgetting herself and she seems like she's ready to be done with this job. But at the same time, that's such a huge thing to tell anyone, and she told Shaw after knowing him so little time. I did like how Chuck handled the whole situation, though. I mean, I guess we don't know if he would have hit Shaw or been really angry without having to maintain the cover, but still. idk. I think he did well. (Also, I didn't like Shaw calling her Sam at the end. More because she's so... Sarah. So that better have been a one-time thing.)
Also, the show making fun of the fact that every guy Sarah's been with during the run of the show being someone she works with was amusing, but it did make me realize that I'd really love it that if Sarah has to have a love interest who isn't Chuck, it would be more interesting if it was someone outside of all the spy stuff. I don't know how that would work, but it would at least be something different.
Despite these small complaints, I still adore this show so much. It's so much fun.
a;lskjdfkj awwwwwwwwww Penny went to Stuart to try to arrange a meeting between Stan Lee and Sheldon! Seriously, even ignoring the fact that I ship them, she is such a better friend to him than Leonard, who is supposed to be his best friend. But Leonard didn't care at all about Sheldon being in jail for the afternoon and missing Stan Lee and no, this isn't the worst thing Leonard has done to Sheldon (THE WORST WOULD BE FUDGING SCIENTIFIC DATA WHEN THEY WERE AT THE NORTH POLE AND YES I'M STILL IRRITATED WITH LEONARD FOR THAT), but seriously, every opportunity he has to be a good friend to Sheldon, he totally fails. And as irritating I'm sure Sheldon can be in a friendship, he's still actually done more things for Leonard than Leonard ever does for him. ugh seriously I don't hate Leonard, but the show isn't making it easy to like him, and the longer the show goes on, the more I dislike him. It would probably help if he wasn't with Penny, but he still acts like an ass towards Sheldon even when it has nothing to do with her.
Only 5 days until Spring Break now! I really can't wait.
