omg that was so fucking awesome.

Annie and I got through the line and the metal detectors into the stadium and into our seats at about 3:30, just as the first practice was ending. Ticketmaster said that our seats had "limited viewing", and it was basically because we were kind of off to the left of the ramp and we were actually incredibly close to it, so we could only see about half the ramp. It was actually better than I expected, though, and we could see what was going on at the other side of the ramp on the screen at the top of the stadium. So it worked out all right. Plus, the two people who had seats next to us hadn't shown up when we started, and other people were moving over too, so we just moved over to those two seats. Whoever had them never ended up coming, so we were able to see a bit better.

Anyways, from 3:30-4 were like... amateur skateboarders, and then from 4-4:45 was more practice. Then around 5:15 the actual event started. It was really crazy to be there, though. It felt totally unreal. I don't think it really sank in until about the 3rd round.

Skateboard Vert Results
1. Pierre-Luc Gagnon - 95.00
2. Shaun White - 92.25
3. Sandro Dias - 92.00
4. Bob Burnquist - 90.75
5. Andy Macdonald - 88.00
6. Jake Brown - 87.00
7. Tas Pappas - 85.25
8. Buster Halterman - 83.50
9. Rune Glifberg - 80.25
10. Bucky Lasek - 73.25

Rune Glifberg: Aw, I felt bad for him. He did so well last year (placed third). But apparently he hurt himself and his ribs were all bandaged up and everything. I hope he does better next year.

Buster Halterman: Only skateboarder I hadn't heard of in this event before today. His first two runs weren't too hot, but his last ended up being really great. Didn't get nearly as much height as the other skateboarders (Shaun White in particular), though, so I can understand getting a slightly lower score.

Tas Pappas: Kind of the same as Buster Halterman. First two runs (particularly the second) weren't too good, but he really stepped up for the third.

Jake Brown: His first run was great, but his second and third weren't that good. Actually, the third started out really well, but then he crashed about half-way through.

Andy Macdonald: Aw, I really like Andy Macdonald. I actually thought his third run was better than an 88. All of his runs were good, but each ended up being better than the previous one. Really great technical skater.

Sandro Dias: Holy fuck, the first 900 made during a run in competition, ever. Insane. That was a really great run, too. Annie felt that that run was better than Shaun White's first, which ended up getting a slightly higher score, but I disagreed. Sandro Dias's was pretty insane, though.

Shaun White: I'm so happy he medaled. Last year he totally got screwed over. His first run was crap but his second was truly amazing and it definitely would've gotten him up in the top 3, but he was the first person of every round to go, and somehow the judges were ready and didn't score it. So, he had to do the second run again, but his mind was totally messed up after that, so he bombed both his second and third runs. I felt so horrible for him. So, I'm really pleased that he did so well today. His first run was crazy. So many technical tricks, and he was getting bigger air than any other competitor. Awesome.

Pierre-Luc Gagnon: He wasn't my favorite to win (that would be Bob Burnquist or Bucky Lasek), but I'm glad he did. He's definitely one of the most consistent riders I've ever seen. Very technical, too. His last run was absolutely amazing, but I don't think it merited a 95. I think it definitely should've pushed him above the 92.25 he and Shaun White had, but... a 95 was a bit too high.

Bucky Lasek: Awww. I love Bucky. He tried to go all out, but crashed in every run. He really is a phenomenal skateboarder, though, and it's really unlike him not to put down at least one solid run.

Bob Burnquist: Ah! I'm such a fangirl over Bob (which is why I saved him to talk about for last). I seriously think he should've gotten a medal for that last run. He totally fucked up the first 2, but the last... geez. Insanity. When Bob can manage to stay on his skateboard, he's just... spectacular. I really think that a 90.75 was a bit low, and I really would've loved to see him medal. Then again, I already said that I'm a total fangirl over him, so I'm probably biased. ;) Still, I'm pleased that he did as well as he did. Better than last year's performance (even if he did get 5th there).

I took loads of pictures and so did Annie, so I'm going to post them in another post instead of here, because... they're a lot. I took 55, Annie took like... 49. So, yeah. Lots of pictures. And I wanted to post this before going through all the pictures, because that'll probably take some time. So if you care about pictures, I'll be posting them soon-ish.

Moto X Step Up was on and I recorded it, but I decided not to watch it. I think it's probably the event I care least about. I mean, I watched it and got all into it last year, but didn't feel like seeing it this year.

Tomorrow: going to see Skateboard Best Trick! And my seats for this are supposed to be better than the one's I had today. eee I cannot wait! :D

Omg, poor Bucky! I luff him. And dude, I'm nervous I've missed the BMX dirt final, because Alan Cooke is LOVE.

PS: You should totally make an X-Games icon set. !!!#$asdfvj

I love him too. I felt bad for him.

Aw man, that would totally suck. :( I may have missed it myself. I think there was coverage this morning that I didn't know about. =/ I hope I'm wrong.

Hee, I've actually already made like... 8 icons to use when posting about X Games. I'll probably post them next time I make an icon post, but that probably won't be until after X Games. There is a tiny chance that I could make one tomorrow, though.
