Aug. 20th, 2005 12:05 amWheeee, I just spent all afternoon watching season 1 Buffy.
I forgot how much I like season 1 of Buffy. I mean, it's not my favorite season, but I still really love it. But omg, the skirts/pants are up so high! The skirts are so short! The shirts are so short! Buffy's bangs! Insanity!
Man, it's been forever since I've seen any Buffy season 1 episodes. I found myself actually forgetting some of the parts of the plots in some of the episodes I haven't seen as much. Like, in The Puppet Show, I remembered the magician was the bad guy and Morgan had brain cancer and the puppet was good, but I totally forgot that the puppet thought Buffy was the demon (at first I was just thinking that he realized she was the Slayer and wanted her help, but then what he was saying didn't coincide with that, so I got very confused) and I forgot that Morgan dies and there was something else, too. But yeah, that happened in a few episodes, where I'd forget how everything went down, and then seconds before it happened I'd be all "OH YEAH OMG I REMEMBER NOW!!!"
The beginning of the season is a bit slow, but I think the show really hits its stride with The Puppet Show. While The Puppet Show isn't like... the greatest episode ever, I like all the twists in it, and there are a lot of really funny bits (especially the very end, with Buffy, Xander, and Willow doing the dramatic reading. Hee, I love that. And then after that, Nightmares is just... awesome (second favorite season 1 episode), and Out of Mind, Out of Sight is really good too. And Prophecy Girl is just... amazing. I think it'd probably make my top 10 Buffy episodes ever.
Ok, so I had a lot more thoughts when I was watching the episodes this afternoon, but now they're kind of all over the place, so I'll just mention a few random ones:
-Buffy's nightmare in Nightmares where her dad tells her she's the reason for her parents' divorce and that her father doesn't even like her or want to spend time with her is absolutely horrible to watch. I know it's coming every time, and I know it's just what Buffy thinks, but it's still just... ouch. Poor Buffy. I both hate and love that moment.
-Giles speech in Nightmares when he sees Buffy's gravestone and is all "This is my nightmare" is just heartbreaking. I totally forgot about that. I mean, I had a vague recollection about it being his nightmare, but I wasn't sure if I was confusing that with fanfiction or if I was making it up or what. It's amazing to see how far they come from the first episode to the finale.
-In line with my previous thought, also Giles planning to take on the Master himself? guh. Definitely shows how far they've come, that he's willing to protect Buffy like that. He knows that if Buffy's going to die going up against the Master, there's no chance in hell he has a chance of surviving. He's still willing to risk it, though. And Buffy, refusing to let him do it and accepting his fate? sigh.
-Also, that whole "Buffy finds out she's going to die" scene? guh. My favorite scene of the first season. Buffy's absolutely heartbreaking in that scene. Have I mentioned how much I love Prophecy Girl yet?
-Angel's so weird during the first episode. I don't know. Actually, all of the first season, but especially the first episode. Maybe it's just me. But he seems so much... less broody. It's odd. Aw, but early Buffy/Angel. So sweet.
This makes me want to go watch the season 2 DVDs now so much. gah. I had been saving these DVDs and the season 4 DVDs, both I got a month ago, for a full five season Buffy marathon, but I never was able to get a good time, so I just kind of gave up on it. I only watched it today because I was bored out of my mind and needed something to do. I don't have time to watch season 2, though. sigh. It doesn't help any that season 2 is my favorite season, either.
Guess that's it for now. I forget how much I love Buffy until I, you know, start watching the episodes again.
Edit: Did someone link one or two of my icon posts somewhere, or something? I've been getting several comments a day on these two entries for the past few days, and it just seems... odd. Like, people will come to icon posts I've made and comment for an icon occasionally, but not one or two for several days. Not that it's a bad thing at all, it just seems really random to me and I'm curious as to why it's happening. Maybe I'm just crazy and totally imagining it, I don't know.

Date: 2005-08-20 07:38 am (UTC)We had no Season 1 episodes in our Buffy countdown which is starnge because I LOVE Season 1 a lot! I really do! My favourites are The Pack, The Puppet Show and Nightmares, but Season 1 was really a "finding itself" season where Buffy wasn't fully "matured" yet. I think it reached the end of its "growth spur" around Innocence in Season 2, one of my favourite episodes. I guess it's because Season 1 is so light-hearted before Prophecy Girl.

Date: 2005-08-20 05:49 pm (UTC)I love those episodes too, though my favorite is Prophecy Girl. And I agree, it's definitely a "finding itself" season. Part of the reason I like Prophecy Girl so much is because season 1 is so light-hearted prior to the episode, and you can see that Buffy really has matured. And for season 1, even the episodes that I don't like as much are still a lot of fun to watch. They all have their moments.

Date: 2005-08-20 05:04 pm (UTC)but i still have to go through season seven, which i know, is pretty bad, but i still have to see it for completion.
i'd watch all season one today or tomorrow, but i have to get ready for our party tonight and tomorrow i'll have to clean.
i'll see how it goes.

Date: 2005-08-20 05:53 pm (UTC)And yeah, I know what you mean about going through the 7th season for completion. I really disliked season 7, but I'll probably end up buying it on DVD and watching all the episodes again just so I have all the DVD sets (well, I'd also have to get season 6, but yeah). It feels incomplete only to have 5 seasons and not the final two, even if I don't like them as much.

Date: 2005-08-20 09:05 pm (UTC)OMG in... Never Kill A Boy On The First Date, Buffy's outfit when Owen asks her out a second time is TRAGIC. Her shirt only comes up to like, right under her boobs so her pants are hiked all the way up there, too. I DIE. Heh, but then we get, "Well, I could invite the chess team but they drink, start fights..." <33 Owen.
+ I agree with pretty much everything else you said, but I want to mention...
-Also, that whole "Buffy finds out she's going to die" scene? guh. My favorite scene of the first season. Buffy's absolutely heartbreaking in that scene. Have I mentioned how much I love Prophecy Girl yet?
"Do you think it'll hurt?" GUH. That is when I start CRYING INSANELY.
Even though it's probably my least favorite season, I still love S1 a LOT. I miss my show. :(

Date: 2005-08-21 12:26 am (UTC)Oh god, I know. That whole scene is just so painful to watch. It absolutely kills me.
I don't know where season 1 is for me. It changes. At highest, it's third, and at lowest, it's 5th. In any case, I really love it. Even if it's not as like... emotional and intelligent and deep as later seasons, it's still just so fun to watch.
