Jan. 7th, 2006 11:24 amWell, my audition is over, thank God.
Full Range Chromatic: It was going all right until I got above the high C and sometimes my bass clarinet is nice and lets those notes work, and other times it just squeaks horribly. Well, this time it squeaked horribly, and I couldn't get the notes to come out, so I stupidly said "...the notes above my high C don't work" and then the auditioner was all "Well you shouldn't have played that high" and I thought he meant that they only wanted you to go up to like C on chromatic, so I was all "What?" but then he said "If the notes won't come up, you shouldn't go that high. Do it again and go as high as you can." So I did and it was better but I think I missed a note or two. Anyways, I feel really stupid and should've just kept going and not stopped and said that. blah. I probably got like 2 out of 10 points for chromatic.
Scales: Well he said Ab and E scales so I did concert Ab perfectly, and then realize that he might not mean concert pitch. So I asked and he was all "...no. Didn't mean that." And so I said "...oh, I'm sorry, I played the concert scale because I learned them that way." But then he said "Oh, well I didn't even notice. Just play the right one, then" so then I did and I messed up a few notes, I think, but at least it was the right scale. And then I did E and I'm pretty sure I did that perfectly and I even went up above the notes I said I couldn't play and they came out right and I really wish I hadn't said that they don't come out because now he probably thinks I just couldn't play them and was lying. blah. But I suppose the scales all went better than last year. Last year I started over chromatic again, and I started the wrong scale like 3 times and still messed it up once I got the right scale.
Solo: I think it went well. I did one little mistake, I think, and the tempo for the third part was a little slower than it should be, but it was decent. I think I may have played the solo better last year, but oh well. I was just happy I wasn't making as hugh mistakes as in my scales.
Sight Reading: He had me read 3 different sections. The first went all right, though I think I missed the rhythm in one part a bit, and the second was a little worse. But the third was very good, so yeah. I did better on sight reading this year than last year.
All in all, I have no idea how I did. Coming out of it I felt like I did better than last year, but I think my solo last year was better. So, who knows. I'm trying not to expect to make it because I'm afraid if I do, then I'll just end up being horribly disappointed.
Anyways. Not looking forward to going back to school in two days, but at least I have my birthday next Saturday to look forward to. And if anyone's feeling kind and would like to get me anything, paid account time is always appreciated. My paid account runs out Feb. 6th, and February seemed like a long time ago when I bought it in August, but now it's right around the corner.
Don't know what's going on today. I think I'm supposed to be hanging out with Emma and Mukul and maybe other people, but I haven't talked to Emma since like Thursday, so I don't know. I guess we'll see.
