So, uh, tvguide.com is reporting that Veronica Mars is getting picked up for 13 episodes next season. Uh, yay? If it's true, I don't really know how I feel about this. I mean, 13 episodes > 0 episodes, but 22 episodes > 13 episodes. The thing is, I'm afraid that if it were renewed for 22 episodes, and then the ratings sucked at the start of the season, then it would be cut down to 13 anyways, and maybe not in time for everything to be wrapped up. So I don't know. I mean, any Veronica Mars is better than none, but I have this sinking feeling that, if it's renewed for 13, then that's it. Unless it starts getting killer ratings and many more millions of viewers each week, then it's over. blah. I'm so tired about stressing over this. I really need to stay away from all the ratings/season 3 threads at TWoP and just wait until Thursday.

Anyways. Hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day! For Mother's Day, I "gave" my mom my VM S1 and Firefly DVDs. Not really a present, but I've hinted to her enough that she should watch them, and now I'm kind of forcing her to. But, I mean, I forced her to watch Wonderfalls, Arrested Development, and Doctor Who, and she loves them all, so I don't see her not loving Firefly and Veronica Mars. Since that wasn't really a real present, I also made her a mix CD of a bunch of songs, so hopefully she'll like that.

Edit: Of course, the same person reporting VM's pickup for 13 is also reporting Everwood's cancellation, and he seems even more sure of that than VM. So, I guess that kind of puts things in perspective. I mean, with the ratings VM gets, we should be thankful for any sort of pick-up, really.

None of this is set in stone, by the way. Nothing's official until Thursday, so don't start freaking out now.

:(

and :)

LOL I dont know how to feel about it either... I agree with what you said.

I guess maybe it would be okay, cuz then they prolly would have less filler episodes and get to more mystery solving?

But... I want a whole season!

I don't get it. It's one of UPN's best shows... why do they want to get rid of it?

I know, I really want a whole season. I was thinking that it could be better so Rob Thomas, the creator, could focus the season better and not have just a bunch of episodes where no progress is made in the myster (like this season). But then, he was already planning to do 3 mini-mystery arcs, so I don't think that would end up affecting it anyways.

I understand that they want to get rid of it because it's terrible ratings. If it does get renewed, I think it'll be like the lowest rated show to ever get a third season. What confuses me more is why no one is watching it. It's just so great, and if people would just give it a chance, I'm sure they'd love it. sigh. It's so frustrating.

The thing I dont get is doesnt UPN have terrible ratings on like... all of their shows? You'd figure VM HAS to bring in a bigger audience then 'Cuts' or 'Girlfriends' or all the other crap they play.

Thats what I dont get. Yeah, it doesnt get as many as Lost... so? Lost isn't on UPN.

Unfortunately even for UPN I think it's one of their lowest rated shows. Still, they pair it with totally incompatible shows and their promotion of it sucks. I mean, if I hadn't heard on LJ how awesome it was and looked into it myself, there's no way UPN would've gotten me to watch. Plus, you're totally right that UPN generally does get terrible ratings. I mean, there are loads of places in the US that don't even get UPN. I have to imagine that everyone actually having access to VM and also being exposed to the show has to improve its ratings.

I wish they'd move it then. Although I guess if they did that there'd be no excuse if the ratings were bad, lol.

That sounds like something I'd do. Get someone somehting I like for their birthday. It's the thought that counts right? :D

I hate when shows get picked up for half a season, it basically means you're going in the shithole sooner or later. I really hope it gets the full season. I think it will do much better on CW. NOBODY watches UPN... atleast not VM-type viewers. They watch, well, anything else. heh.

Hee, exactly. And I actually do think she'd really like both shows, so really I'm doing her a favor! I mean, if it weren't for me, she would've never watched Arrested Development, and that's like one of her favorite shows, now.

I know, it really makes me nervous. I'm just kind of hoping that either this info is false and it's actually getting picked up for 22, or that it does really well next season and is picked up for the full 22. I agree, it should do much better off of UPN. Most people I know haven't even heard of Veronica Mars, so if people who have been watching the WB a bunch start seeing ads for it on The CW, they might think "Huh, sounds interesting. I should check it out!" Plus, it's lead-in has been terrible. I mean, sure, it got America's Next Top Model for a lead-in, which is UPN's highest rated show, but at the same time, I wouldn't think the audiences would overlap much. If it is renewed, it'll probably be paired with Gilmore Girls, which I think would be much more fitting (or at the very least, more fitting than ANTM).

Heh, I know how you feel. 3 more days, and we'll know for sure.

And keep in mind that even if it's only picked up for 13, if it does well enough, then the CW can choose to pick up the back 9 episodes later. I heard that actually happened to Angel in its 5th season (though I wasn't paying attention to the ratings then): it was only picked up for 13, but then it did well enough that the WB decided to give it an additional 9. Oh, and I'm pretty sure that happened to Prison Break. Before it even premiered, the first season was only supposed to go 13 episodes, but then it did so well in the ratings, that FOX decided to have it go a full season.

I hope it would get picked up for the rest of the episodes. It's such a good show, it's disappointing that more people don't watch it. But maybe the switch will help gain some publicity - since I feel like a lot of the problem was that it was on UPN. I didn't start watching until just a few weeks ago, and I think a lot of that is just that I don't watch anything on UPN, so I would never see commercials for VMars when watching other shows or whatever.

hmmm...I read somewhere VM will get picked up for 12 episodes for VM, Everwood too and 13 episodes for 7th Heaven (though I thought it was already cancelled). Perhaps The CW can't pay for more than a half season? ;)

I heard after this article was poasted about VM being picked up for 13 theories that maybe the CW was going to pick up Everwood and One Tree Hill for 13 so they wouldn't have to cancel any of them (because they were the three kind of fighting for a spot, although it wasn't a "Only one can make it!" sort of thing, either), but then right after that the other article was released saying that Everwood was cancelled. So, at this point, I don't really have a clue.

Heh, yeah, 7th Heaven was already cancelled, and had been promoted for months as being the last season ever and to be sure not to miss the finale episode ever of the show. And then the CW decided it'd make much more sense to pick up the show even though it's gone on for like 10 seasons and is actually losing them money at this point. I think they're picking it up for only 13 so that people who were fans of it will follow it over to the CW and then after it's done, find other shows on the network to watch. But I still find it ridiculous it's being picked up at all.

I don't want Everwood to be cancelled :( And Veronica Mars neither. I like both shows a lot *sniff* But I wouldn't mind 7th Heaven cancelled, I never liked that one.
