blah. So I got out of sectionals 5 minutes early to come home and tutor this girl (I think I mentioned this in an earlier post) and my mom picked me up (because my car isn't fixed yet) and she was like "Yeah, she came by about 15 min ago to say that she dropped from pre-calc to FST and she wasn't sure if she'd need your help in FST or if you could help." This makes me sad because I really like tutoring and stuff and I was really surprised that someone actually called me for once for tutoring and I was excited for it, and now I'm probably not going to do it. She said she'd e-mail me about everything and who knows, she might need help in FST and I might be able to help her (I don't really know what FST is. Functions, statistics, and trigonometry, maybe? I'll ask Soan what it is tomorrow), but yeah, probably not going to happen. And she was going to pay me $15 for each time, too! sigh.

Got my physics test back today, the one I blew off studying for to watch Veronica Mars. I got a 65% on the multiple choice and a 90% on the written. alkjfd blah. Should've studied. Some of the mistakes were just ridiculous, like reading a velocity graph as a position graph. But yeah. Disappointed in myself. Well, other than the written, but the written was only 10 points, so my overall grade on the test was a 70% and in the class a 87.9%. I don't want more than one B this semester and I'm pretty sure that B is going to go to AP English, so I really need to start studying for Physics. And this is supposedly the easiest test of the year! sigh.

New episode of The Office tonight! That makes me so happy. :D

Indeed it is Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry, that's what ours was called. It's like, pre-pre-calc kinda. Or whatever, it's what they called the thing that came after Algebra 2.

Ah, ok, that's what I thought. At my school I think most people take it after Algebra 2 if they're not strong in math and don't want to take pre-calc because it's too difficult.

Yeah at mine, pre-calc comes after FST if you get that far. Only people who started algebra in 8th grade got to pre-calc, and like a couple people somehow got to calculus but I haven't a clue how, unless they took some math classes faster or something. Or started algebra in 7th grade. I'm not sure. At that time, I didn't want to be an overachiever so I specifically did not want to start algebra till the "normal" time in high school.

Oh, really? That's interesting. At my school most people take geometry, algebra 2, pre-calc, and calc. FST like I said can come instead of pre-calc, and some people take AP Stats instead of calc, too. And there are the people who start algebra in 7th grade and get to calc by 11th. Actually, I think there was one freshman this year who started in pre-calc, which I have no idea how that happened, since that seems impossible.

That seems impossible and ridiculous, who wants that much math, sheesh... Yeah, I went to two different high schools and they were both set up the same way. Freshman year: algebra. Sophomore: geometry. Junior: algebra 2. Senior: Trigonometry or whatnot, the two schools were called different things. One was Trig, one was FST. I don't recall even having a stats class available to anyone in high school. The people who started algebra in middle school could get to pre-calc, sometimes calc but that's as far as it went. Maybe Wisconsin kids are lazy and/or stupid?

Ah yeah, we had algebra in 8th grade for some reason. Stats for us is either instead of calc after either FST or pre-calc or if you finished calc your junior year. And there are the crazy people who finish calc junior year and then take like.. multi-variable calculus at UCI (which is a college like... a block away from my school).

Sounds crazy, don't people have lives in high school? High school and early college were big party times for me (comparatively speaking), I can't imagine taking that kind of scary math back then. I never studied in high school, never had to. Some people could take AP or college classes, but not many ever did. I never did. I was very lazy in high school...

Well, my school is kind of crazy academically. I think it's one of the top 10 public schools in California? So people are all crazy and take ridiculously advanced course loads. I have enough trouble with the courses I'm taking as it is, though, I don't understand how you could be like 1 or 2 years more advanced in math than you should be.

Sounds crazy, glad I didn't go there! I've never been big on trying hard. I like to do good at what I do, but not have to try too hard to do it. It's not (completely) that I'm lazy, I'd just rather do good at something easier to moderate than fail at something hard. Of course, I'd like best to succeed at something hard, but I know when that's possible and when it's not. Advanced math...not so much.

Yeah, I can understand that. My school is kind of ridiculous. I think I'm just used to it by now, though, so I can usually do decently in all my classes even though it requires a lot of work. I've always been strong in math, though, so it's not so bad for me in like AP Calc this year. AP English, on the other hand... not so much. Definitely a lot harder for me.
