Ok, so this is going to be an entirely unpopular opinion, but here I go anyways: I'm not that upset that Lamb was killed off. I just... I never got the Lamb love. I love Michael Muhney, I think he's totally great and he's so good to the fans, but... it just seems like to me a lot people transfer their love for the actor onto the character. And if you really, truly love the character, then fine, I mean, that's your opinion. But I think Lamb's an asshole, I mean, he's always been an asshole. Everytime I see someone say "OMG I LOVE LAMB" I can't help but remember the pilot, and how he acted when Veronica came in to report her rape. And I just don't understand how some people are now going "OMG VM is now dead to me, I'm no longer going to watch the show!" or "Lamb was the only good thing left about the show!" Because, really? He's not on the show that much as it is, and whenever he's on it's only for someone to make a Lamb-is-stupid joke, or to contrast how inept he is with how awesome Veronica and Keith are at solving mysteries.

I don't know, he's kind of like Dick to me. A lot of people love Dick, and I think the actor is great, and sure, Dick can be interesting, but if he was written off the show, it would make no difference to me. He's still the guy that encouraged his little brother to rape Veronica. And, you know, he's a complete dick.

I don't know, I think I need to just stay away from VM fandom, because I rarely ever agree with anything anyone else thinks.

Time for another opinion that's probably going to be very unpopular: I watched the end of the pilot of The Black Donnellys that's up at yahoo and I don't hate the new song. I mean, of course The Arcade Fire song works better and I'd much rather have that song, but... it's just not an option, and I don't mind the new song. The climax of the song matches up well with the action on screen, in my opinion. I think a lot of people don't like it because Snow Patrol is overused (and I think maybe I heard even this exact song was on Grey's Anatomy? But I could be wrong because I don't watch that show) but none of the shows I watch have been using Snow Patrol, so... that doesn't bother me either. I don't know. I'm not about to download the song and listen to it 50 times a day like with The Arcade Fire song, but I don't think the song is going to ruin the end for me either. What's going on is powerful enough that it doesn't need a song to make it awesome; it already is.

So, there you go. Two probably incredibly unpopular opinions. Feel free to hate me forever and yell at me and such now.

(I think I'm in a bitchy mood tonight. It's been a long day.)

re: vm... OMG thank you thank you thank you. You took the words right out of my mouth, seriously. You're not alone! ;)

Everyone's been raving about The Black Donnellys. I should really check it out.

Right there with you on the bitchy-ness tonight. I think it's something in the air.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! My friendslist has been basically from "I'm going to miss Lamb so much!" to "I'm never watching another episode again!", and I've never understood the love for Lamb, so it just kind of baffles me. Apparently everyone is seeing something in him that I'm not.

You should definitely check it out! It's excellent. It premieres this coming Monday at 10 PM on NBC if you weren't aware.

Yeah, I think so. Well, and I had a very long afternoon/night of many hours of various music rehearsals so I'm already kind of on edge.

I think your absolutely right when you say that people might be morphing MM with his character. I honestly can't think of any other reason why people could adore Lamb like they do. It just doesn't make any sense to me. He's a bastard! Gah.

My flist has also been exploding with the whole "Fuck VM" mentality. I just don't feel the same way. Like, at all.

I'll definitely check it out! Not on TV (darn not having a dorm room with cable hookup!) but I've seen it floating around. Not like a I really need another show, though. :)

It's midterm time again, ugh. The stress = bitchy Sarah. :/

Yeah, that's really all I can think of, because Lamb has been a complete jackass throughout the series. I can't think of any redeeming moments for him. He's entertaining, but he's not even in the show that much!

Yeah, same here. I just don't understand it. I think I need to just stay away from VM fandom, because anytime I come near it, it always just makes me feel negative and unhappy and such.

Awesome! Heh, I know what you mean, I don't really need another show... but it's so good! And it's taking the place of a show I was already watching in that timeslot, so I'm justifying it by saying that I'm not really adding a new show, I'm just... replacing an old one with it!

Ah, that really sucks. I'm lucky I don't have to deal with midterms. But it is like a month into my second semester of my senior year of high school, and I'm really ready to graduate. And people I've known for four years that have always been a little irritating have just been driving me insane recently.

Exactly! Honestly, whenever I see (saw?) Lamb pop up in the current season I was always like, "Hey! Lamb! I completely forgot you existed!" So the fact that people are saying that Lamb was the only good part of the whole entire show? Flabbergasted I think would be the right word. Heh.

Yeah, I usually avoid the fandom now. I even ignore most of my flist reactions because I tend to get annoyed and cranky.

Haha, good point! I'm definitely intrigued. I've heard so many good things about it. Which probably means it'll be canceled within, like, 5 episodes. *sigh*

Aw, yeah I feel your pain. The people here are always driving me insane. It'll be over soon enough, though! :) I just can't wait for this semester to be over and done with.

I don't really understand why the people who were saying Lamb was the only good part of the show even kept watching, because, I mean, as I said, he really isn't in that many episodes. I mean, why watch a show for one secondary character that's in a couple episodes of the season when you hate everything else? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, I stopped reading flist reactions as much the past couple weeks but I was reading some tonight and that was probably a mistake. Oh well. I'm going to try to avoid them for the rest of the season.

Heh, I know, I'm already worried about the ratings it's going to get, and it hasn't even aired its first episode yet! I feel like the shows I really love are always in a constant battle to stay on the air because of low ratings.

Yeah, same here. I'll be really happy to be done with this semester. But you're right, it will be over pretty soon!

"open your eyes" is fine in that scene; it does crescendo nicely with the action. but my problem is it's too triumphant, not dark enough.

i'll miss lamb, but i'm not freaking out about it.

Yeah, I agree with that. The singer's voice sounds too... smooth and clean for me, I think. It's really apparent after the climax of the song and it gets soft again. That was the moment I most missed The Arcade Fire song. But overall I think it's fine, they could've chosen a much worse song, and the end holds just as much power for me as it did before. I don't know, I'd prefer the original song, but since it's not possible to use it, I'm fine with this as a substitute.

Yeah, I can understand that. I think I'll miss him a little (although mostly I think because I like Michael Muhney and feel bad for him that his character was killed off). What I don't understand is how people are saying that he's the only reason they were still watching the show or that this show is now ruined for them. I really didn't expect this much outrage over it.

I completely agree with you. I never understood why everyone loved Lamb so much. I forgot he even existed half the time. :$ I did like some of the scenes between him and Veronica at times and it's sad that he died, but his death really has little effect on the show for me. I still love it just the same. I don't know anything about Michael Muhney, though. Not sure if that makes any difference.

About Dick...I really don't like the guy at all. :-p
I always seem to disagree with the rest of the VM fandom. Like when everyone was in love with Beaver during the second season. I didn't really have an opinion on him either way. :-/

Yeah, his death makes no difference for me in terms of the show. I think not knowing anything about Michael Muhney is part of it, at least for some people, because he was incredibly devoted to his fans and actually posts on the livejournal community dedicated to Lamb and he does seem like a really nice guy, and I think some people kind of transfer their love for him onto the character when they're completely different.

I know, same here. One of the episodes a couple weeks ago absolutely everyone hated where I really liked it. And I really don't agree with most people's opinions on Veronica, either.

As for the thing with Lamb, I agree -- I'm in the camp that loved Muhney but pretty much hated the character.  However, it's more what he represented in terms of the show, the world they created, and the writing in general that upset me so much with his being killed off.  I posted in more detail about that and tried to explain it as best I could, but I would completely understand if you're staying away from fandom right now, lol.  After 6pm today, my flist kind of... imploded.

I read your post, and I completely understand what you're saying. I thought you put it very well, and in that sense, I will miss Lamb. Keith being sheriff does kind of bother me (especially if it means the end of Mars Investigations). So I can understand if people were up in arms about his death because of that, but I hadn't seen much of that on my flist. It was more "Lamb was the last good thing about this show!" which I really couldn't understand. But being upset about his death because of what he represented rather than who he was makes a lot more sense to me.

I'm glad you think so -- I really wanted to get that point across.

I do definitely agree that "the last good thing" is too extreme, which is why I also made mention of that.  Still, it's a crippling loss in many other ways.

I think part of it for me was that I just really didn't expect that huge of an uproar over it. I thought some people would be upset, but I never even imagined that people would be giving up the show over it, so seeing all those posts was just astonishing to me. I do understand your viewpoint, but I think the only thing about this that is going to really bother me is Keith all of a sudden being sheriff and there potentially being no Mars Investigations anymore.

I think it's less to do with killing Lamb off, and more to do with... people just losing complete faith, left and right.  There are a ton of fans right now who feel very jerked around and abused by the writing, and so each time another thing like this happens, it's another blow to the spirit.  Apparently, this was one too many for many fans out there, and to be honest, even though I'm not stopping watching, I can't blame them.

Oh I agree with you about the Black Donnellys. I didn't even noticed the difference until I started reading some comments about the different songs. Then I downloaded Arcade Fire, and even though it really fits better, SP is still a good choice. Both gave me chills so... :)

Yeah, same here. The scene is still just as powerful as it was before, it wasn't the song that made me love it. Sure, it enhanced it, but the new song doesn't hurt it in any way. So I'm fine with the song being changed.

Thank you! Lamb was such a one-note character most of the time and I actually found his death kind of unsurprising. I don't get all of these negative reactions, the episode itself was pretty good...and there was really nowhere left for Lamb to go as a character. I'm not saying good riddance, but I'm glad that Keith is going to be Sheriff again, it's sort of like Neptune's reign of incompetence is finally coming to an end.

Yeah, I started getting a feeling at the end of the episode when he was in the house that he was going to die, and I was slightly surprised, but it wasn't actually a huge shock. There really haven't gone anywhere with the character. They've attempted to, in that early season 2 episode with Meg's abused little sister, but it never went anywhere. I remember thinking earlier in this episode where Keith was offering to come or to help or something and Lamb made some stupid comment that, hey, Keith was right about Abel Koontz not being the murderer and that Jake Kane covered up Lilly's murder, and about the E-string strangler, and plenty of other things I can't remember right now. Yet he still doesn't listen to him! You'd think by now he'd learn that maybe Keith is actually good at what he does.

I like Keith being sheriff on one hand, but on the other hand, I'll be really sad if this means the end of Mars Investigations.

ITA with your VMars thoughts. I HATE Lamb (and, uh, I kind of think MM is really creepy, but that's beside the point). The only regret I have about Lamb's death is that back in Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner, we got interesting Lamb!backstory. If we'd gotten more of that to make him a sympathetic character, then maybe I would've liked him more.

Regardles, I'm sososo glad he's gone and that now we finally get a chance to see Keith as Sheriff.

Yeah, I agree, they could've gone somewhere with the character, but they didn't. He's just a one-note character at this point.
