Went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter on Tuesday with a bunch of friends which was a lot of fun. And I really liked the movie. When I first came out I was just like "Well, that was better than I thought it would be" but the more I think about it, the more I really loved it. It's my favorite so far of the movies (well I've only seen the second half of Chamber of Secrets. And I totally hate Prisoner of Azkaban which I think is a very unpopular opinion but I love the book so much and I don't think anything could have lived up to what I hoped for it to be like. I think maybe if I rewatch it I would like it better. But at this point the 5th is totally my favorite). Of course they had to cut out a bunch of stuff, but that's to be expected, and once you get past that I think they did a good job of capturing the tone of the book. And it's just shot so beautifully. The cinematography is excellent.

I've been starting my reread of the series and something jumped out of me.
Why doesn't Snape just tell Dumbledore about Quirrell? I mean, I know it's so everyone thinks that Snape is the one trying to get the stone and then it's supposed to be a huge shock that it's Quirrell, but it just doesn't make sense. I forget the conversation he has with him exactly (even though it was just Wednesday when I read it. I fail at remembering things), so maybe he doesn't know Voldemort's behind this, but that makes it even more ridiculous that he doesn't tell Dumbledore. Maybe he could've gotten to the stone anyways, but it would've made it a hell of a lot harder if he was fired and everyone knew that he was after the stone. And Snape's not actually supposed to be evil (at this point, at least), so it doesn't make sense that he would let Quirrell have time to decide whether or not to keep going after the stone. Just... what? Am I missing something? This has never bothered me before, but somehow it just leapt out of me this time, and I'm starting to agree with Soan that the first book isn't very good (although I've finished the second at this point, and it really bored me this time a lot more than it did last time, so maybe the second is my least favorite).

Also, what the hell, when they're first doing the sorting in book one and Harry's just been sorted the narrator says something like there only being three left to sort, and then they have two and then it's Ron and then after that they sort one more person! And all of that is on the same page, and it's like... what? You can't even keep up with the coninuity on the same page?! Because at first I thought maybe it meant three until Ron would be done, but it definitely says "And now there were only three people left to be sorted," and then goes on to say where Dean, Lisa Turpin, and Ron are sorted, and then two paragraphs down Percy's congratulating Ron as Blaise Zabini is sorted. I mean, am I counting wrong? That's four. This seems like a really tiny thing to be nitpicking and I know it's honestly not a huge deal, and I wouldn't even have noticed except it's all on the same page! Continuity from book to book (like Percy being able to take off points in the second book but Hermione saying prefects can't take away points in the fifth) maybe I can understand being harder to keep up with, but on the same page?

...I really do like these books. Honestly. These things just kind of leapt out at me. And rereading them this time, I do think books 1 and 2 are my least favorite. I already know 3 is my absolute favorite, and I've always liked 4 well enough and my opinion about 5 kind of wavers but I'm really looking forward to it this time after seeing the movie. I'm not sure about 6 simply because I've only read it once and that was 2 years ago, when it first came out. So I think part of me not liking 1 and 2 this time as much is that I'm anxious to get to 3, 5, and 6. Oh well. I'm going to read 3 this afternoon, anyways, which I'm looking forward to, because as I've said, it's my favorite.

Anyways, I've been spending a lot more being social this week than I have since graduation. There was the Harry Potter thing and then Wednesday there was a small party-ish gathering thing in the band room for Mrs. Bentley's resignation which was nice and on Sunday I'm going to dinner with some friends and then we're going to watch Taming of the Shrew for this Shakespeare in the Park thing. So that'll be fun.

I ordered a Macbook (my graduation present) yesterday! I'm excited for it to come. I've never had a Mac before so I'm hoping I'll get used to it and like it and such. Hopefully it won't break down as frequently as my past few computers have (although those were all Dells and I've heard Dells are the worst).

Less happy and exciting, I'm getting a TB test on Thursday since it's required for college. If you don't know, I absolutely hate going to the doctor and needles. I'm so terrified of needles, and I swear I must have a much lower tolerance for pain than everyone else on the planet because I just cannot handle shots and blood tests and such. Everyone always says it won't be as bad as I think, but then it always is (or it's worse). I at least feel better that I have an appointment set and I won't just be worrying knowing I need to make an appointment before August 1st, but having no idea when it will be.
