Everyone's already talked about Deathly Hallows being split up into 2 movies, so I figured I'd give my two cents. I'm... cautiously optimistic, I guess? I'm hoping this means that they'll be able to include more details than they're normally able to, and that they'll be able to give all the elements of the story more attention, if that makes any sense. Honestly, seeing the news, my first thought was just "The second film will be out in May of 2011? I WILL HAVE GRADUATED COLLEGE FROM THEN. CANNOT FATHOM." It's just really weird to think about, considering I'm going to be in such a different place then from now. I mean, if you go back three years ago, I was at the end of sophomore year, and I was in a pretty similar place then that I am now. Besides the whole living in St. Paul and going to college thing, I had mostly the same friends (they weren't as good friends then for the most part, but still) and same interests and had no idea what I wanted to do with my future. I don't know. I just can't really imagine what my life is going to be like then. I'm going to have to be a grown-up and get a job. Weird.

(Yes, I can manage to turn something fandom-y and not related to me at all into something ALL ABOUT ME. It is a skill.)

Anyways. Meme time, again! I don't expect that a lot of people will participate in this, but... I'd really appreciate it if you would? It seems like a really different meme from normal, and I think it would be fun to do.

aww so just like when the books ended, the movies ending will be like the end of an era for you too. you'll have this whole new life! unless you turn into a bum like me.

but i don't really mind the split into two movies. just so long as they split the book in the right place, which i'm kind of worried about because that book is very disproportionate on the action. there's a lot of set-up and wandering at the beginning and then a lot of stuff that happens in very quick succession at the end. but i've decided that the PERFECT place to split it would be right after ron comes back and they destroy the horcrux. and i'm going to be so upset now if they don't split it there. SO UPSET.

It's true! I didn't think about that. The series actually ending was like that too, since my age tended to match up with how old they were when each book came out (I started a little younger, and ended a year older, but pretty much the same), and that was also kind of the end of an era. It's so weird. Heh, I suppose I could just become a bum once college is over with. That does sound more appealing right now than having to get a job or go to grad school and be an adult.

Yeah, I am really worried where they're going to split it, which is why I'm cautious about my optimism. I think it could work really well if they do split it in the right place (I agree that after Ron comes back would be the perfect place. Although they'll probably do it right after he leaves so there can be all this suspense over WILL HE COME BACK even though... we know he will).

I kind of feel bad actually posting the meme because people on my flist have posted it and I haven't done theirs since I couldn't come up with anything. I'm kind of not expecting anyone to actually do it, but I figured I'd put it up in case anyone did want to since it seems like a fun meme.

yeah, the last book came out right after i graduated from college and i was supposed to get a job and start living without a safety net and all that. so it was just like, NO MORE CHILDREN'S BOOKS. YOU ARE AN ADULT NOW. so it was really weirdly appropriate.

i don't know why everyone thinks the movies'll be split after ron leaves. that doesn't make any sense. that would mean that they break into the ministry to get the horcrux and then sit around for the rest movie not knowing what the fuck to do with it until suddenly ron leaves, then roll credits. THAT'S NOT AN ENDING. i am gonna be so angry if they end it there. you do not want to end a multi-part movie on a downer note like that. you want to end it with the end of one mission and the start of a new one.

ending the first movie after ron comes back and destroys the horcrux is perfect because it would give the movie an entire narrative arc. they would actually accomplish something. and, if you notice, the end of "the silver doe" is almost EXACTLY the middle of the book, page-wise.

I agree that after Rob comes back is the perfect place to end the first movie. The only reason I am expecting it to be in a different place is because I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst, I guess. I don't have a huge amount of confidence in the movies following exactly what I think would work the best, but I'd love to be proved wrong.

I know! Supposedly the first part will be out November of 2009 and the second will be out May of 2010, so there will be a 6 month break between them. Pretty crazy.
