Sep. 23rd, 2008 12:08 pmSo, remember that math group quiz I mentioned yesterday? Well I did get my group a 20/20 on it (...I feel kind of egotistical/conceited/whatever saying that, but... I really did do all the problems, and then they just checked what I did to make sure I didn't make any stupid math errors. I mean, I explained how to get the answers and stuff to them when they didn't get it, I didn't just take the quiz and do it, but yeah), and not only that, but we were the only group to get a perfect score. And actually most people failed it (I think most people were saying they got around a 9-11 on it).
So then, our professor had to go take a conference call for the first half of class because he's on this national math board of something or other and he's the chair and it was supposed to be at 4:30 but the time zones got confused and it ended up being at 3:30, at the start of class. So he was like to me "You go to the board and explain how you got the answers to every problem because you were in the only group who got a perfect score and you've gotten perfect scores on all the other quizzes this semester so far." So I spent the first half hour of class explaining the quiz problems to my class. Which... was weird. I'm shy, ok? And I don't really know anyone in that class. Actually I do kind of know a couple of people now so it wasn't as awkward as it could've been, but it also wasn't like I was just explaining stuff to a bunch of friends, you know? So yeah. I don't know, it just felt awkward. I'm actually really surprised everyone did so poorly. I mean, I had no idea what was going on in class most of the week, but then I did the homework and read the sections in the book and... it was laid out pretty clearly. At least, I thought so. It's not like I studied any, other than doing the homework. But whatever, now I feel better if I cost my group points on the project since I helped them on the quiz. And the professor was like "Well, you all pretty much sucked, so we're going to take an additional quiz this week with all the same questions (except with different numbers), and it'll be a take home quiz, and that means you can drop one more quiz score from this semester, and most of you will probably want to drop this one." So that works out well for me, since I know what I'm doing and I get to both keep this score and presumably do well on the take-home quiz, too.
Anyways. Enough about school for a little bit! I'm actually going to talk about TV for the first time in forever! I watched the season premiere of Chuck yesterday (it's up on Hulu.com even though it doesn't premiere until next week) and oh man I forgot how much I love this show. I think this season is looking even better than last season, though. I ship Sarah and Chuck like crazy, so this episode was awesome for me. I just really love that it's not quite... cliche? That's not quite what I mean, but it's like... it's not that Chuck's pining over her and he doesn't know that she has feelings for him, or she won't admit it, or whatever. I love that they both know that they're into each other, but the situation they're in just sucks and they can't do anything about their mutual attraction until she and Casey don't have to protect Chuck anymore.
Also, I love Casey and Chuck's quasi-friendship, so I love how Casey was really unsure about killing Chuck, and that he literally caught him while he was falling. And the bit where he shot the picture of Osama bin Laden, didn't shoot the picture of Reagan, and then missed the picture of Chuck was hilarious and brilliant and awesome.
Also, I love Ellie and Captain Awesome. That just always needs to be said. They are awesome.
Oh man, this show is just so enjoyable. I'm glad that neither Chuck nor Gossip Girl seem to be suffering from a sophomore slump so far. Especially since The O.C.'s second season was so bad. It seems like Josh Schwartz has learned since then.
Also:
Serena being a bitch is AWESOME. Oh man, I'm so excited for this. The last scene was so kick-ass. And here's the thing, ok, back when I first watched the pilot, I wasn't incredibly impressed with this show, and pretty much the only thing that kept me watching was that I liked Dan, Jenny, and Serena/Dan. And even though my love for Chuck/Blair and Blair quickly overtook that around episode... 8 or so, I still liked Serena/Dan and even when everyone started hating Dan in the second half of the first season, I made excuses for him and stuff and didn't see how judgemental he was like everyone else did. But now, oh man. He's just been insufferable this season. Serena shouldn't have had to explain kissing Nate in the premiere when Dan was the one who broke up with her and he had like 80 girlfriends over the summer. And he was being purposely hurtful and blaming Serena for things totally out of her control in this episode. She had NOTHING to do with Amanda getting her hair burnt and she was TRYING to make an effort to be ok with him and Amanda, and he's just this little bitch about it all. ugh. I seriously can't stand him right now.
I also love Serena being the queen again because it looks like there'll be some fun stuff with Serena and Blair ahead. I mean, I absolutely love their friendship, but it'll be interesting to see where they go with Serena being on top again. Especially since I don't think Serena wants to dethrone Blair or anything, she has nothing against her, and I think it's really just to get back at Dan, but she also doesn't realize that she's treating Blair differently (that scene with the scarf was kind of... chilling, and Blair looked so lost as to what was going on and not sure how to react. Just awesome). This will be so much fun.
I'm interested to see what Chuck's doing. Maybe I missed it, but I don't know if he's trying to bring Blair down as payback, or because he thinks it'll be easier to get back with her if she's no longer Queen B. It should be fun, though.
I love Nate and Vanessa together kind of ridiculous amounts, which is weird since normally I don't care much for Vanessa, and Nate I just kind of like usually. But they're so sweet together! Especially in the last episode where Nate was all "I want you" so quickly and certainly. I'm sad how they ended things in this episode and this really better not be the end of them. Also, Vanessa and Dan better not get together or I'll be really upset.
I continue not to care about Jenny at all. She was ok in this episode, but... I just don't care. I also don't care about anything that goes on between Lily and Rufus.
Oh man I love this show. Why can't there be an episode every night? That's totally not an unreasonable request.
It was kind of weird, though, how there was only that one scene with all of them together, and it was pretty short. I don't think it would have been as weird if it weren't the premiere, but... it was. I mean, I'm fine with it for one episode, but it would get old if they were constantly all separate (kind of like the first half of Lost S3).
Anyways. So, I don't really care about Stella and Ted since I'm 99.99% sure Stella's not the mother (I'm not spoiled or anything, it just feels obvious to me), but she was really sweet at the end of this episode when she admitted to Marshall that she hated Star Wars but she'd lie about it her whole life because of how much she loves Ted. I think I would have enjoyed this storyline more if I had actually ever seen Star Wars, though. Also, Marshall needs a haircut. And he needed way more scenes with Lily.
I did love Lily's support of Barney. It makes sense that he would tell her and that she would be supportive of him. And yeah, I can't adequately describe how much I love Barney. I love that he admitted that he's in love with her, but he's still sleeping with random bimbos. He wouldn't be Barney if he didn't. And I loved what he said to Robin about going after the better job. ugh I love them so much together. But I'm also glad that they're not getting together right away. I enjoy slow build-ups. Especially since the build-up is usually better than when characters actually get together.
Ugh ok I really just need more of this show right now. Clearly I need to get the DVDs so I can watch How I Met Your Mother as much as I want.
So this season has started off a lot better than last season, I think.
All the scenes between Hiro and Ando after Hiro went to the future and saw Ando kill him were really sad. They're like 90% of the reason I fell in love with this show in its first season, and a good amount of why the first half of last season sucked (I mean, that they were separated. And ok, there were loads of reasons why last season paled in comparison to the first, but them being apart really didn't help). So I love that they're together again, but Ando can't kill Hiro, ok? That's just not ok.
I like Nicki 100 times more when she's being a bad-ass. Well, basically when she's not being Nicki. Jessica > Nicki, and clearly Tracy > Nicki. I still don't understand her power, though. Maybe I'm forgetting somewhere where they explained it, but... does she have a different power when she's different identities? Does she have Dissociative Identity Disorder and her different identities have nothing to do with her powers and so she has a different power in each identity? I've never really understood it, but I thought it was just that she had different identities as part of her power and she was super strong and could kill people in each identity. Or something. I don't know. I never really liked her so I didn't really pay attention to her storylines. Maybe that's the problem. But she's a lot more appealing when she's not being all mopey and whiny and such.
There was a serious lack of Noah Bennett in these episodes, but I loved the end with him and Claire. I love their relationship. I don't approve though of him going off on his own again and her staying put.
I cracked up when I saw Weevil, mostly since he was with Elle. Veronica Mars reunion! Yay! Also, I was really happy that Elle was in the episode and that she didn't die. I think last year when I read people's reactions to Heroes a lot of people didn't like Elle? But whatever, I enjoy her. Mostly just because I like Kristen Bell, but whatever. She's a pretty awesome character, too, and I thought she was especially cool in this episode. She better stay on the show.
Also, I really don't like Mohinder or Maya, but I appreciate that they're being written into scenes with just the two of them so I can zone out during those scenes.
Also, I cracked up at Sylar being a Petrelli. How many of them are there out there? I mean, ok, technically Sylar is a half-sibling (well, I'm assuming half) of Peter and Nathan, and Claire is Nathan's kid, so it's not really the same, but whatever. Plus there's future!Peter running around, so there are a lot of Petrellis around at the same time.
But yeah, I'm actually kind of more excited about this season. Hopefully it won't start sucking again.
I still haven't watched Prison Break, but whatever. It's sucking a fair amount this season, not that that should be surprising. I wouldn't watch if it weren't for Michael/Sara.
Ok now I need to study for my German test tomorrow and write a 5 page reaction paper and not forget to go to my German lab at 3 this time (sldkfj I still can't believe I did that). I probably won't have anytime to watch anything tonight since I spent most of this morning catching up on last night's TV. Oh well.
So then, our professor had to go take a conference call for the first half of class because he's on this national math board of something or other and he's the chair and it was supposed to be at 4:30 but the time zones got confused and it ended up being at 3:30, at the start of class.
