Everytime I just stop to think about the fact that Obama has been elected, I just break out into a grin.

Unfortunately the victory is a little bittersweet today for several reasons. First, that Prop 8 passed. I'm sadly not surprised, but it still sucks. The only thing that gives me hope is that according to exit polls, the youth were massively against it, so someday this will get changed. Also sucky is Franken being down by like 700 votes to Coleman in Minnesota. This is so ridiculously close! There'll be a recount, but I doubt the result will change. Also, wtf is wrong with Alaska? Seriously, Alaska wins as my least favorite state this year. I mean, first you have Palin being from Alaska and having huge approval ratings from there. But then you have Senator Ted Stevens who has been charged with several FELONIES still managing to win! ALASKA, YOU SUCK.

I'm watching The Daily Show/Colbert Report election special from last night, and oh man, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert being on the same show brings me such happiness. Also, STEPHEN HAS A COCKATOO ON HIS SHOULDER. I have 3 cockatiels, and cockatoos are pretty much like big cockatiels, so I find this especially awesome.

Fox News was fun to watch after McCain conceded. There was a pall over the broadcast and it was incredibly amusing to watch their news anchor either scramble to find good news (i.e. this isn't a mandate) or try to accept an Obama presidency. By the end of the night, the same network that earlier that day had reported on the evils of ACORN and alleged attacks by Black Panthers of Republicans at their polling locations, started to praise Obama and his impressive campaign.

I think Obama won because he ran the cleaner campaign and he had superior policies and a sound platform on which to run. What's irking me today are only the posts by Republicans on my f-list that are making me wish I could just defriend all of them...but maybe that would be too petty over something like politics, I'm just not sure.

I agree that that's why Obama won. And I think it's also because not only did he have superior policies, but he focused on the issues and he ran a very well-organized, controlled campaign. The McCain campaign was also exceptionally bad, what with the total lack of message and stupid stunts like the selection of Palin and the campaign suspension.

Ugh, I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I'm pretty sure I don't have any Republicans on my flist (I know I did have one like a year ago, but she defriended me). If I do, I didn't notice anything, because basically everyone was thrilled that Obama was elected, even the people who don't live in the U.S. I understand the desire to defriend them, and I don't know what I would do if I were in your case. I do know that if anyone on my flist talked about being glad that Prop 8 passed, I would defriend them immediately, because that's a view that I just can't tolerate or understand. Hopefully this is just immediate reaction stuff and they'll cool off and give Obama a chance.
