Apr. 22nd, 2009 04:22 pmLast night sucked because of something really stupid. So I had this assignment for Research in Psych that I spent hours and hours on, and I printed it out, but right before class a girl in the class told me "The professor just told me we're supposed to upload it to Moodle." Which he hadn't told us about, but whatever, there's a computer lab right next door to the classroom, so I ran over there and uploaded it really quickly. Then after dinner I was like "I should check just in case to make sure I uploaded it correctly because I did it in a rush." So I checked and it turned out it hadn't uploaded. ugh. So I uploaded it, but it was over 2 hours late, and I was kind of freaking out about it. The professor likes me and I haven't turned in anything late, I'm always in class and on-time and all that, but I was still worrying about it for hours. I e-mailed him immediately about it, but it took him awhile to respond. It turned out not to be a big deal; he said that he knows from seeing me in class this semester that I'm conscientious and that I had the work done and all that. So it was all fine in the end, but I was just so worried about it. I mean, the assignment was 10% of my grade, so it wasn't something I wanted to get like half the points off on. And I just felt like such an idiot.
Today has also been better since I talked to my stats professor about the project draft we have due on Friday which I've been freaking out about, and I think I'm feeling more comfortable about it now. Plus, class was canceled, and German is canceled on Friday and Monday, so that's nice.
Registration for Fall classes was today for me!
GERM 203 Intermediate German I - MWF 12:00-1:00
GERM 203-L1 Intermediate German 1 Lab - W 3:30-4:30
PSYC 242 Cognitive Psychology - MWF 2:20-3:20
PSYC 242-L1 Cognitive Psychology Lab - R 3:00-4:30
PSYC 300 Directed Research in Psychology - MWF 10:50-11:50
MATH 136 Discrete Mathematics - TR 8:00-9:30
Intermediate German I: This pretty much just follows from German this semester. I don't know for sure if everyone from my German class this year will be in it since there are two Intermediate German classes. I think at least a few of them should be in it, though. I like German, so this should be a good class.
Cognitive Psychology: I'm taking it to fulfill a requirement for the major, but I'm pretty excited for it. I like that kind of stuff. And the professor is the same one who taught Research in Psych I which I took last semester, and he's pretty awesome.
Directed Research in Psychology: I'm pretty terrified for this class. Directed Research is the Capstone for the psych major (basically like a senior thesis, except most psych majors take Directed Research junior year). Basically in this class, you come up with your own study, go through with it, write up a huge paper, and present it. I hate writing papers and I'm not into research, so this is not the most ideal class for me. But on the plus side, my absolute favorite professor ever is one of the three advisers for the class, so that's good. It's pretty much the only good thing. Hopefully it'll work out all right. I mean, I have to take the class eventually, obviously, so I might as well get it done with.
Discrete Mathematics: ugh not looking forward to getting up this early again, and I'm not really into discrete math (I like continuous math more; I'm good at integration and differentiation and all that). I'm just taking it to fulfill a requirement for the math minor. But the professor should be good, and it's a 100-level class, so hopefully it won't be too intense?
The scheduling of the classes is not ideal, but it was the best I could do. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I'll have Directed Research and German from 10:50-1:00, then a break for lunch, then Cognitive Psych from 2:20-3:20. On Wednesdays I'll also have a German lab from 3:30-4:30, but I'm not counting on that staying. Every semester so far I've been switched to a different German lab; it all just depends on who signs up for what times and how many people are in the class and all that. And it would be easy enough to switch at the start of the next semester. It's fine for now, though. It kind of depends on if I decide to do Wind Ensemble next year. Most of me doesn't want to (just because of the time commitment and it's more of a hassle than something I enjoy), but I do like it, and this semester our normal conductor isn't even here, and I'd kind of like another semester with him. It depends on if I get the courage also to tell him that I don't want to do it next year even though I don't have a great excuse. Especially since the ensemble is so small. It's not like there's someone else readily available to replace me. =/
Tuesdays and Thursdays are better... kind of. Discrete Math from 8:00-9:30 which isn't great, but it's better than having 4 classes in a row MWF with no break for lunch. I'll deal. Then on Thursdays I'll also have my Cognitive Psych lab from 3:00-4:30 which won't be too bad.
So overall I'm pretty pleased with how next semester is looking, but also somewhat terrified. We'll see how it goes.
