Jul. 1st, 2005 09:49 pmYeah. I fucking love Warped Tour.
So, the extra ticket situation got sorted out. Tina let me know that she could go for sure in enough time, so I planned to pick up her and Tiffany at about 8:30 so we could arrive at Cal State Long Beach around 9:00. Annie had a counseling meeting at her school because her high school is stupid and schedules counseling meetings a week after school lets out.
We got there around 9:20ish. We couldn't figure out where the entrance was, so we stood around the backstage entrance for 20 min before walking around some more and finding a rather long line. Oh well. It didn't end up mattering, though, because the doors were supposed to open at 11 and bands start at 12 (though some bands started earlier, for some reason) and we got in at 11:10. The line is actually kind of fun because people from smaller bands come around and make you listen to their music. I remember at my first Warped, two years ago, the guitarist of Maxeen went through the line and I listened to the music and liked it and so I bought the CD and he signed it specifically to me, which was awesome. Listened to music from UVR, All Left Out, and Underscore, all of which I liked. Unfortunately, I didn't have much money with me, so I didn't get any of their CDs. This ended up being a good thing, as at the end of the day, I ran out of money and had to borrow $3 from Tiffany for a drink because I was dying of dehydration.
So yeah, first thing we went to the list of when bands are playing, and you know my post yesterday about how Motion City Soundtrack wasn't playing according to this pretty official website and I was all disappointed? Yeah, well, that website was 100% wrong, the list had MCS at 12:40. Yay! :D After writing down who was playing when and where (there are many stages, if you haven't been to Warped before), Tiffany and I recognized No Use For a Name playing at one of the main stages, so we headed over there.
No Use For a Name: Haven't listened to them for awhile, but I used to listen to them a lot around 2 years ago, when I was in 8th grade. It was cool seeing them perform because I used to like them a lot but have never seen them live. Unfortunately, came about halfway through their set, but it was all right.
After No Use For a Name, Tiffany, Tina, and I walked around a little together and then I split off to find the Epitaph and Alternative Press tents, which tell when certain bands are signing. To my joy, I found that Motion City Soundtrack would be signing at 3:00. Actually, I think at this point we were still all together. Well, we split up sometime during this time. Anyways. Unfortunately, I realized that My Chemical Romance was playing at 2:30, meaning they would end at 3:00. And with most bands, if you come when it says they start signing, the line is huge. Last year I did that for Taking Back Sunday (not on purpose, actually, I meant to line up early, but they moved the place and it was confusing and yeah) and ended up not being able to meet them, which was disappointing (though because of that, I was able to meet Eric Melvin, a guitarist in NOFX, which was pretty fucking awesome, so it did turn out fot he best). So I was kind of concerned about that, but Tiffany reminded me that MCS isn't very widely-known and TBS is everywhere (especially last year), so it would probably be ok to watch My Chemical Romance and then line up. I think I decided during that time to leave My Chemical Romance half-way through and then line up for MCS.
Anyways, after that, I went looking for merch booths. I bought a t-shirt at the Motion City Soundtrack booth and looked around for the Fall Out Boy booth but couldn't find it. While I was searching, I found that Fall Out Boy would also be signing, which excited me, but then I found that they were signing at 2:45. Oh no! Decided just to think about it for awhile, since it was only like noon at that point. After wandering around, I went to see Matchbook Romance at one of the mainstages. I didn't really go into the pit because while I like Matchbook Romance, they're not like my favorite band ever and I got burned out from their CD from listening to it too much. I stayed for about 10 minutes and then checked my cell, finding that Annie had called. I called her back and she told me she arrived, so I left Matchbook Romance to find her. From there, we went to where Motion City Soundtrack was playing, since it was about 12:15 and while they weren't starting till 12:40, they're one of my favorite bands, and I wanted to be up close. I mean, I can get to the front even if there's a large crowd of people, but it's a hell of a lot easier when there's less people. Annie left me to go get food since she was hungry and hasn't listened to any of Motion City Soundtrack's stuff (>:O We must fix this, Annie!).
Motion City Soundtrack: alsfjd so fucking awesome live. They played "Everything is Alright", "When You're Around" (I think), "Better Open the Door", "The Future Freaks Me Out", "My Favorite Accident", and "Capital H". Think that's it. They were awesome, though, and I was in like the second row. Got some good pics. In the middle of one of the songs, someone from backstage came on stage and sang the end of the song. A lot of the people in the crowd seemed to recognize who it was, and he looked familiar, but I couldn't place him. This is going to bother me until I find out who he is. blah. I think Justin Pierre (lead singer of MCS) mentioned who he was, too, but it's so hard to understand what they're saying with the loudness and screaming and all. But yes. I greatly enjoyed watching MCS.
MXPX started at 1, which was near the end of the MCS set. After MCS finished, I went over to the stage MXPX was playing at and listened to a song or two. Then I realized that I was dying of thirst and pretty hungry, so I went to get lunch and sat down for awhile. It was cool, though, because I was able to hear and see their set pretty well from where I was.
At about 1:30, once MXPX finished their set, I wandered some more. The next band I was thinking about seeing was the Dropkick Murphys, and they weren't playing till 2:00. As I wandered, I realized that Tsunami Bomb, a band I like a good amount, was playing at one of the sidestages, so I watched the rest of their set.
Tsunami Bomb: Don't remember all that they played, and I only saw part of it. But man, Agent M (lead singer) has such a fucking awesome voice. I mean, a lot of singers hit the high notes on their CDs but... don't hit them quite as well in real life. But Agent M can hit them all. Really beautiful voice. She seems so friendly and... I don't know. Nice, I guess, on stage. It just makes you feel really comfortable watching her perform. She announced at the end of the set that they'd be signing at 4:00, and luckily this didn't conflict with anything else I wanted to do.
By now it was 2, and I headed over to where Fall Out Boy would be signing to see how long the line was and think about if I should stand in line or watching My Chemical Romance. The line was kind of long (though not that bad), and I ended up finally deciding to go to the signing rather than see My Chemical Romance. I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to see My Chemical Romance, especially since they were, like, my favorite band last fall, but I have seem them before (pretty recently, too; it was at the Taste of Chaos tour, at the end of March). Plus, I figured that I'll definitely have more chances to see My Chemical Romance, but how many chances will I have to meet Fall Out Boy? Annie, Tiffany, and Tina all said that My Chemical Romance was really awesome, though. Oh well. I'll see them next time I get the chance to.
At around 2:50, near the end of the My Chemical Romance set, Tiffany met me in line. The line moved pretty quickly. I wanted to get pictures of the band, but unfortunately they were enforcing a no pictures rule for some reason that was not explained. That was kind of disappointing. It was still awesome, though. I got a page out of this magazine of Warped bands put out (for free!) by Alternative Press, signed by them.
After getting our stuff signed, Tiffany and I ran over to the Myspace tent, where Motion City Soundtrack was signing. It was about 3:05 and they started signing at 3:00, but the line was incredibly short. Shorter than when I got in the line for Fall Out Boy 45 minutes before they started signing. Motion City Soundtrack are the nicest guys in any band ever, I swear to god. Like, Fall Out Boy was nice and all, but... I don't know. Motion City Soundtrack just makes you feel comfortable. They're so friendly. I asked if I could take a picture with them, and they were instantly all "Oh, sure, just come right back here! You can stand behind us." So nice. And they were signing posters of themselves, which meant that I got a free poster of MCS that I would've wanted to buy if I saw it at the merch tent. So awesome. I'd scan it, but... yeah. Kind of large. I love this band, though. I think part of the reason I love this band is just because how friendly and nice they are. Tiffany said she ran into the lead singer of Motion City Soundtrack on the way to meeting me in the line for Fall Out Boy and she interrupted his conversation with someone and had him sign her ticket, and he was so fucking nice about it and did it instantly, and... yeah. They rock.
All right, so after meeting Motion City Soundtrack, Tiffany and I split up again. I had asked the drummer of Fall Out Boy where their merch tent was and he told me that it didn't say Fall Out Boy on it, it said Clandestine and pointed me in the right direction. Finally found it and bought a Fall Out Boy hoodie. This made me happy, seeing as I've been listening to their music since the beginning of 9th grade (so, over a year and a half now, I guess) but I've never gotten any merch from them. I've seen them before, once, too, but never any merch. By then it was about 3:45, so I went to where Tsunami Bomb would be signing.
The line for Tsunami Bomb was rather short, too. The members of the band were all really friendly, like Fall Out Boy, but... geez, no band is as nice as Motion City Soundtrack. ...and perhaps I should stop going on about the complete niceness of MCS. Yeah. If you hadn't noticed by now, I tend to ramble and repeat myself over and over again. I also wanted to get a picture of them, but there was this weird thing where once you got something signed, you had to get in another line to get a picture taken, and by then it was about 4:25 and the line of getting things signed was pretty long, and I wanted to see The Starting Line at 4:30, so I just said screw it and left after that. That's ok, though. I'm glad I got to meet them, in any case. I got a page like the one I got signed by Fall Out Boy signed by Tsunami Bomb.
The Starting Line: Went to the pit a few minutes before they got on stage and managed to get up to about the 3rd or 4th row. There were more short people around than tall people, which was awesome, since... I'm not very tall so it gets hard to see. The Starting Line was really great. Definitely better live than on their CD. Well, I'd say that's true of most bands, Motion City Soundtrack and Fall Out Boy included, but the thing is, I've listened to The Starting Line's first CD so many times now (I've had it since halfway through 8th grade, which is a pretty long time, seeing as I didn't stop listening to sugar pop until 7th grade and I didn't start really listening to new bands until 8th grade) that I'm really tired of it. However, I really enjoy hearing the songs performed live. They played, to the best of my recollection, "Bedroom Talk", "The Best of Me", "Up and Go", "Leaving", "Cut! Print It", and "Surprise, Surprise". During one point, one of the guitarists threw a guitar pick he had been using into the crowd. It landed on the girl in front of me's shoulder, and I quickly grabbed it. ...that might seem kind of bitchy or rude, but... it's a moshpit. Every man/woman for his/herself. I mean, that's happened to me plenty of times, something being thrown in front of me and someone else grabbing it. She didn't even notice, she seemed to think it had fallen on the ground, but a girl behind be did and sneered at me. I smiled back widely and then tried to move away from them. This ended up being a good thing, since their set was ending, and somehow I managed to get up to the barrier, the front row, and I was pretty much center.
I had been planning on going to the other mainstage and watching The All-American Rejects at 5:00, but... well, Fall Out Boy would be playing at the stage I was at at 6:30. And I knew the crowd for them would be humongous. Plus, I mean, I like the All-American Rejects, I have their first CD and listened to it a few times, but they're definitely not my favorite band. I like their new single and I'll probably check out their new CD when it comes out July 12, but... it wasn't really "OMG I MUST SEE THEM!" and more of a "Well, there's no one else playing at 5:00 I want to see, why not check them out?" But instead, I decided being front row center for Fall Out Boy was more exciting for me than seeing the All-American Rejects, so I stayed where I was.
Strung Out: At 5:30, after The All-American Rejects, Strung Out played at the stage I was at. I'd heard one song by them before and liked it, but didn't know anything else about them. I'm glad I stayed there, though, I liked them a lot. I think I'll check out one of their CDs next time I get anything (of course, considering I spent all my money today, it'll probably be awhile before I can buy any new CDs).
Waited half an hour after Strung Out finished while Avenged Sevenfold played on the other mainstage. Then, Fall Out Boy!
Fall Out Boy: Wheeeee, so good live! They played "Grand Theft Autumn (Where is Your Boy?)", "Saturday", "Chicago is So Two Years Ago", "The Pros and Cons of Breathing" (I think), "Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner", "Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of this Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued", "Dance, Dance", and "Sugar, We're Going Down." I think that's it. Half-way through "Chicago is So Two Years Ago", Justin Pierre, the lead singer of Motion City Soundtrack, came on stage, picked up a mic, and started signing along. Yay! I had seen him earlier in the set and hoped he would do something like that, but then he seemed to disappear, and I had lost hope. I spent my last picture on him singing along with Fall Out Boy. I kind of wished I'd saved it, though, for when the song was over and he and Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy, did this really adorable kind of... polite, but like they were pretending to be polite and they were actually great friends kind of hug. ...ok, so it's hard to explain. But it was adorable, and I wish I had a picture of it. Oh well. Also, at the very end of the set, Pete Wentz, the bassist (? I think, not entirely sure) of Fall Out Boy came up to the front and stood up directly in front of where I was. It was awesome. I held onto this ankle. Usually when people in bands do that, I'm way too far away or I'll just barely reach them, but this time he was right in front of me.
Fall Out Boy was last to perform, so I managed to find Tiffany and Tina and we met up with Annie at the front gate. And then it was over.
I took many pictures and forced them upon my mother. I should have them by tomorrow, so plan on seeing a massive picture-post from Warped here tomorrow.
Yeah. I go to a good number of concerts, but Warped Tour is my favorite every year. Can't wait until next year already. :D
Edit: Motion City Soundtrack will indeed be a part of this Fall's Nintendo Fusion tour featuring Fall Out Boy... Joining us as well on the bill will be our buddies in The Starting Line, plus Boys Night Out and Panic At The Disco.
[dies] Yeah. I must get tickets to this. God, I hope there'll be a show near me [i.e. closer than L.A.] and that it's on a Saturday since that's the best day for concerts, provided that I don't have a field show (for marching band) that die. But yeah. Must go to that show.
So, the extra ticket situation got sorted out. Tina let me know that she could go for sure in enough time, so I planned to pick up her and Tiffany at about 8:30 so we could arrive at Cal State Long Beach around 9:00.
