Sep. 7th, 2009 11:30 amOkay, so I'm finally at school. I arrived in St. Paul on Wednesday, and I've been actually living in my apartment since Saturday night. I wasn't a huge fan of the room when I looked at it in May (I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't really care for it), but it's looking so nice now. The walls are a pretty strong blue, and I hated them when I first saw them and wanted to paint them at some point, but over the course of a few days, they've really grown on me. I'm so happy with my room. I think we're going to put some posters up since a few walls are kind of blank and empty, and we might be getting a TV this weekend, so I'll wait till everything's really sorted to post pictures. Of course, I always say I'm going to post pictures and never do. I haven't even uploaded the ones of my dorm last year from the camera to the computer (although that was party because I left my camera cord at home and didn't bring it until the spring semester where I forgot my camera battery recharger in turn), but if I do end up taking pictures of my room and apartment, I'll upload the ones from last year as well.
The girl I'm sharing a room with I was friends with last year, but the other 3 girls I met for the first time this past week. I was a bit nervous at first (I suck at meeting new people), but they're all very nice and welcoming and such. I think it'll be good. In any case, I can stand a year living with them, and if things suck, I'll get my own apartment next year.
While on vacation, my parents and I watched season 4 of Buffy and season 1 of Angel. My parents didn't like season 4 of Buffy as much as the other seasons. They said that they don't think the college stuff works as well. They both adore Spike, but I don't know if they still will after season 5. They were saying before we got to the end of the season that they were sure he would get his chip removed by the end of season 4 because he was too good a villain and it would be too boring for him to stay chipped. I haven't told them anything about Buffy/Spike, so I'm interested to see their reaction. They both really enjoyed Angel, my dad especially, which kind of surprised me. My dad is really looking forward to season 2 what with Darla coming back since he really likes Julie Benz from watching season 1 of Dexter. I don't know when we'll get season 5 of Buffy and season 2 of Angel in. I guess over winter break, although I don't think we'll have enough time to finish them both. We'll see. It was really fun watching season 4 of Buffy for me, anyways. It's been ages since I've seen nearly all those episodes. I actually kind of like Riley before he and Buffy start officially dating; he's pretty sweet. He gets annoying once he gets all angsty over everything and isn't just cute and happy.
What else? I bought books yesterday and it was the cheapest semester for books ever. I only have books for 2 classes (one for one class and a book and a workbook for another), which was nice. We don't have internet in our apartment, wireless or otherwise, but the guys next door have wireless and it's unlocked and it doesn't cost them any extra for us to use it, so everyone here with a laptop has just been stealing their internet. If they lock it at some point, I think we're going to get wireless. I still have a lot to take care of here, unfortunately. But at least the room is almost done. I probably won't be on much in the next week, anyways, since I'll be pretty busy with apartment stuff and classes.

lol why? In my re-watch with my friends (that has been going on for months and months now since we only watch 2 eps a week) we're on season 5 of Buffy and season 2 of Angel. I haven't seen season 5 in literally years so I don't remember it terribly well but from what I recall...isn't that one of Spike's most likable seasons? I think that's when I loved him the most, haha. But it's been awhile and I'm only up to 5.08 now.

Date: 2009-09-08 03:12 am (UTC)Well, they basically were saying that they love Spike evil and while him having a chip was entertaining for a season, they thought it would be boring having him that way for much longer. I know that season 5 is definitely a lot people's favorites on LJ, but I'm one of the few people who don't really like Buffy/Spike. I adore Spike in seasons 2-4, but I don't like him as much after that (although I definitely like him more in season 5 than in season 7). But it has been a really long time since I've seen season 5, so maybe this time I'll change my mind. And for all I know, they may really still like him.

Date: 2009-09-08 07:21 am (UTC)And then if you like him being all BAMF there is still Fool For Love (that I just re-watched a couple of days ago and its one of my fav BTVS eps ever!)
I don't think him crushing on Buffy changed him, lol he was always a sap. Just before this it was about Dru, not Buffy. And he never stopped being evil. Mostly because in Buffy-verse there really isn't a "gray area" with vampires. It's so black and white (which I kind of hate, TBH).
But I guess with the chip they were trying to be as "gray" as they could possibly be. I mean, how would any of the main characters ever trust him without that? And honestly, he couldn't just be 100% evil and keep being a main character. It would get old, they would need to develop his character in some way to keep him around.
I liked that in s7 Spike didn't lose his sense of humor for the most part. So he wasn't as drastically different with a soul as Angel/Angelus.
lol I always loved Buffy/Spike though. I thought it was fascinating.
I liked Buffy/Angel in the first two seasons too. But I'm glad that they had Angel leave the show, it made me like him so much more.

Date: 2009-09-08 04:32 pm (UTC)I agree with you about the lack of gray area with vampires. Even with demons, it seems like on Buffy that all demons are evil and there are a few specific exceptions (such as Oz when he's a werewolf and whoever else). That's one of the things that I actually like about Angel more (even though I like Buffy as a show all-around better); there are more morally ambiguous characters, and there are loads of good demons.
I think part of it for me is that I just can't ship Buffy/Spike, whereas I really like Spike/Dru, so I'm fine with him being all crazy over Dru. I think the biggest part is that Buffy/Angel was my first ship when ever when I was 12 years old, and it just feels weird shipping anyone else with Buffy. If I watched the series now for the first time, I might feel differently.
I did love Buffy/Angel, but I agree, Angel was definitely a much better character on his show. They fleshed him out so much better on Angel. I like Angel fine on Buffy, but I like him loads more on his own show.

Date: 2009-09-09 02:03 am (UTC)I mean, i liked him well enough...but not enough to follow him to his own show.
That's why I'm so glad that since I started watching Angel I like him TONS more.
Yea, I really think other shows like True Blood actually do vampires better in some ways because it's ALL a gray area there. Not that True Blood is a better show per say, I mean Buffy is just so fantastically written that it would be hard to ever top that, but there are certain elements to the vampire thing they've made more complex.
You know, I did really like Buffy/Angel in s2 when I was 12 as well. But when I re-watched it this time I liked them a bit less due to the over the top almost Twilight-seeming sappiness. haha. But at least for the most part the BTVS writers knew how ridiculous Buffy/Angel were and even wrote an episode that made fun of that, which I enjoyed.
I loved how complicated and fucked up Buffy/Spike was, and yet how much it made a lot of sense character-wise. I mean, someone who was evil and yet driven by love above all else, it's pretty fascinating. haha, I feel like I could write a paper about all of the ~issues~ that went into that.
I dunno, to me the story itself is the most important thing and shipping is secondary. *shrug*
