Yesterday I had my fourth class, Discrete Math. It was fine. We have to write proofs, though, which I haven't done since I was a freshman in high school, so I'm not sure how that's going to work out. And like 85% of the class are freshmen, which is weird. It makes me feel old! Today we got divided into groups between the professors for Directed Research, and I didn't get who I wanted, who's my absolute favorite professor in the school. Oh well. The professor I did get seems nice, and I know the other girls in my group, so hopefully it'll turn out all right. I found out that after we finish our projects, we also have to present our research at the Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference (which I think is in the spring), so I'm already freaking out about that. I do not do well with public speaking. Oh well. One thing at a time.

I've been watching a lot of TV! I caught up on 90210, watched all of 10 Things I Hate About You, and the Vampire Diaries premiere. I also saw the Modern Family pilot, the 2nd episode of Glee, and the Supernatural premiere, but I don't have anything to say about those.

I wanted to hate this show because I love the movie so much and I thought it was ridiculous they were trying to make a TV show out of it, but... this show is just too adorable! I somehow fell in love with it, and I have no idea how it happened! I think it helps that the show is really just loosely based on the movie rather than trying to follow it exactly. Even though there are the same characters, most of their personalities are slightly (or, in some cases, drastically) different. And they switched the plot lines up a lot (Bianca and Kat are new, not Cameron; there's no bribing Patrick to take Kat out so Bianca can date; etc.). Anyways, here are random thoughts I had while watching the series:

1. Not a fan of Cameron. He grew on me a little as the show went on, but... he annoyed me. I mean, I'm fine with him if we're not actually supposed to root for him and want him and Bianca to get together. He is definitely one of the characters who made the biggest transition from the movie. In the movie, he wasn't cool, but he was definitely way more socially aware and not so clueless.

2. Bianca (or, I guess, the actress who plays her) reminds me SO much of Kristen Bell. I started noticing it around the 2nd or 3rd episode, and now I can't not see Kristen Bell. In any case, I really love Bianca. I like that she didn't continue to take crap from Chastity throughout the series; she actually stood up to her once or twice.

3. Joey is awesome! He's probably the biggest change from the movie. He's so adorable! And he and Bianca are so sweet together. I totally ship them. I mean, they're not OTP or anything, but they're really cute.

4. I adore Kat. She is my absolute favorite. She's just totally kickass, and the actress who plays her is awesome.

5. I am confused by Mandella. Well, she was hardly there throughout the series. I'm still confused as to why she punched that pervy kid. When it was first revealed, I was like "OMG IS SHE IN LOVE WITH KAT?" But then it was totally dropped and never mentioned again, so maybe I'm just supposed to see her as being protective? Or... something? I don't even know! I don't particularly care about her character one way or another, but I really don't understand her.

6. Patrick is pretty awesome. He hasn't been developed too much yet, but I think he will be more if there's another season. And he's really hot. Which is important since I'm very shallow. He's pretty ridiculous in the first 2 episodes, though. He has like 5 lines, and he's pretty much lurking around everywhere. He gets much better once he's allowed to start talking.

7. Kat/Patrick! They are amazing together! Their chemistry is ridiculous. There better be another season because I want to see where their relationship goes from the finale.

8. I like Chastity! She gets amazing lines. Also, the principal. I adore the principal.

9. I like that the relationship between the sisters is a lot stronger in the show. Even though they do fight a lot, they're pretty close, in their own way. Like in the end of whatever episode it was (the dance episode, I think?) when Bianca climbs into Kat's bed and they commiserate over the other ways that guys can screw you. That was super sweet.

Basically, this show is adorable, and I'm sad that there's so little of it. I didn't know going in that there were only 10 episodes, and that each episode was only 22 minutes long! Not fair! I need more! That's not even a season, that's like 5 episodes in a normal, hour-long show. There better be another season, and it better be soon!

This show was not nearly as bad as I was led to believe. I mean, no, it's not brilliant. It's not as good as Buffy or True Blood as vampire shows go, but I do think it's better than Twilight. At least, so far. Not that that's saying much.

The main problem with it is there is a serious lack of humor. The show seems to take itself too seriously, which is a problem on a show about vampires. I mean, Buffy and Angel were very serious a lot of the time, but they knew how to lighten up as well. Damon definitely helped in the humor deparment, but it took way too long for him to show up.

Super random comment: that history teacher was ridiculous. He was pretty much just like "Hey, sorry your parents died, but you only get 4 months of mourning and then you should be over it." I mean, it was just rude and nasty for no reason. Yes, she can't use that as an excuse for not doing any work, but... that's not what she was doing. She couldn't answer ONE question (one really idiotic question. I mean, seriously, how important is it in the grand scheme of things to know the exact number of people who died in one battle of the Civil War? History shouldn't be about random figures like that), she didn't offer up any excuse, and she wasn't the only one who didn't know. If he was really concerned, he could have taken her aside after class and been all "Hey, you need to keep up better with your work" or whatever rather than calling her out in front of the whole class. I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it does! It was a stupid class. Anyways.

Stefan is not very hot, but Damon is ridiculously so. I think I'm pretty much going to keep watching for Damon/Ian Somerhalder. (...not just because he's hot. He was by far the most entertaining and interesting character in the episode.) I have the urge to read the books now, so I think I might do that this weekend.

I don't really have much to say about this, actually. It didn't get as crazy and trashy as I had hoped, but it was relatively entertaining. I think it helped that I was bored and was marathoning it than watching it from week to week.

I enjoy Annie going kind of crazy in the finale, and I'm hoping she stays dark-ish for awhile. I'm not looking forward to her redemption arc, which I feel is inevitable. But I'll enjoy her being a social pariah while it lasts.

I adored Adrianna and Adrianna/Navid before, and I still do. Adrianna is definitely my favorite character. I'm glad they're still dealing with her giving up her baby and not just pretending like it doesn't affect her at all.

I don't understand how in the hell we're supposed to buy Teddy as a teenager. And I mean, seriously, I'm terrible at guessing people's ages, and most of the time I have no problem with the people who play high school students on TV, even when my parents or friends or whoever are like "That person is so not in high school." I'm always just like "Really? They seem fine to me." But Teddy is ridiculous. I would barely even buy him as a college student. Maybe a grad student. I could easily accept him as a married man with children, though. And he's not a good enough actor or an interesting enough character to make up for that. blah.

I really, really love Liam. I don't know why! He can be an asshole at times, but he was so sweet after he finally opened up to Naomi! And I loved that after the whole summer, he was still desperately trying to contact Naomi to explain what happened. I'm glad he'll be around this season. They just better not put him with Annie. I'm fine with him and Naomi not being together, but him and Annie getting together would make me crazy.
