I officially have a ticket for the midnight showing of The Dark Knight! My concerns about being at work and not being able to make it were unnecessary since I found out on Thursday that I was only working Saturday and Sunday and nothing else this week, so yay! I'm so excited. :D

With my days off, I've been watching lots of stuff. I saw Batman Begins (second time) with Galaxy and Soan a couple nights ago because neither of them had seen it, and then I saw Cinderella Man. I've heard so many times how sad that movie is so I was expecting it to be really depressing, but it really wasn't. I mean, there are sad parts, but... not so much that if someone was asking me about it, I'd describe it as sad. I don't know. It confused me, because I've heard that from so many people. It's like when people describe The Notebook as being really sad, which I don't understand. I mean, Alzheimer's is a terrible disease, but they still had a good 30-40 years together happy and had children and grandchildren, and they died together. Yeah, this is a pet peeve of mine and I know it makes no sense for me to get irritated about it, but whatever. Just, I mean, when I think of really sad movies, I think about Requiem for a Dream, which... yeah. That movie doesn't turn out well for anyone. Like, that's so depressing I never want to see it again (despite thinking it was really well-done).

I also started watching Psych. I just started the second season. Ah man, it's so awesome. I've heard it was really good before, but reading about it I saw it was more standalone episodes, and I really need on-going story-arcs to get attached to a show. And a ship to latch onto, which there isn't here. But neither of those things have been issues at all. I fell in love with the show pretty much from the first episode. The characters are all so much fun. It's just really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the show. And the third season premieres this weekend, right? Very good time to get hooked!

I also want to try watching The Wire and Mad Men this summer, but I don't know how likely that'll be. We finally have a full staff at work so my hours have gone way down (40-42 hours a week for the first few weeks now to like 12-14 hours a week. Which kind of sucks since I want to earn more money, but it gives me more time to see movies for free, which is the main reason I wanted the job anyways), but I don't know. We'll see.

I saw Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and oh man that is amazing. I can't wait for the second and third parts. They better put out a soundtrack or make the songs available in some way, or I'll be very sad. Oh, but the funniest thing about it is that I guess they mentioned it in the L.A. Times or something which my mom reads, and she saw it was by Joss Whedon so she mentioned it to me because she knows I like his shows. So I told her I already saw it and it was awesome and she should totally see it, and I think she might. But then, the best part, totally out of the blue, she was like "He's the guy who made Firefly, right? You have those DVDs, don't you?" and I said yes and she was like "I want to watch that show." Heh. I've been planning on showing it to her for awhile because I'm sure she'd love it and it's much less of a time commitment than Buffy, which I'm sure she'd also love. But right now we're making our way through the Doctor Who Season 1 DVDs which she bought the other day since we only have seasons 2-3 for some reason, so we'll probably finish those first and then start Firefly.

Anyways, I think I'll watch more Psych or watch Dr. Horrible Act I again. The second act is coming out tonight, right? I can't wait.

Ok, so I totally forgot to mention it before, but SNOW! Snow that actually sticks to the ground and isn't just a flurry and yay snow! :D I'm going to be so sick of this by March but for now it is awesome. What's the point of coldness with no snow? There is none!

Anyways, so I talked to my partner for the psych lab today that I bitched about yesterday for not showing up, and it turned out she went home over the weekend (she lives in Minneapolis somewhere) and there was some family emergency or something and she couldn't get back, and now I feel bad for bitching her out, but at least I wasn't mean to her face before she told me what happened, so at least she doesn't know that I was angry with her even though it wasn't her fault. And maybe I shouldn't judge situations like that and assume the worst, but I've had such terrible experience with group projects before (the three freaking Euro projects I did with Seher, and each time she was a terrible partner and made me far more stressed than I should've been) that at this point, I expect the worst before anything's even happened.

Ooh, today I talked to someone who watches Doctor Who! Like, well, I normally eat lunch MWF with this guy from my astronomy and geology classes, since he sits next to me in astronomy and we both have class until 1 and lunch ends at 1:30 so that's basically the only time to eat lunch. Anyways, this guy is one of his semi-friends that has astronomy with us and sometimes sits with us, and they were talking about "Pretend to Be a Time Traveler Day" (which is this Saturday, in case you were wondering), and he mentioned dressing up as the Doctor and I was all "!! You watch Doctor Who?!" and then we talked briefly about the Children in Need special thing. He also watches Firefly, but I haven't had a chance to talk to him about that. Still. Very awesome. I've also seen this girl wearing a Torchwood shirt occasionally, but it's only in passing and I don't know her name, year, where she lives, or anything about her, so I'd feel really awkward just stopping suddenly and being like "Hey! Torchwood!" But still. Very cool.

Anyways, less than two weeks now of class, three days of finals (and I only have 2 actual finals, and neither is cumulative!). It's crazy that the semester is almost over. I'm definitely looking forward to it, though. 5 1/2 weeks of relaxation and no stress and watching TV and movies and reading and seeing my friends and my parents and my birds and being home is going to be awesome.

ugh. So, the thing I worked on with Galaxy and Arjun on Sunday, it's this ghost scene from Pride and Prejudice for English. And on Sunday, Arjun was all "Give what we have so far to me, I'll type it up and add stuff and then send it to one of you and you can add stuff" and so on. Well, I came up with the "We can pass it around and add stuff", but he volunteered to type and add first. So he sent it to Galaxy on Monday, and it was crap. I'm sorry. But everything he wrote was completely out of character and he changed so much stuff that we had already written, and it was just very bad. So Galaxy tried to fix it and add stuff back and we asked him for the original we wrote just because "we wanted to see something" (i.e. change everything back to how it was) and then this afternoon I started changing stuff and I edited everything closer to how it was and I edited later stuff as well and I was pretty pleased with how it was. It needed editing still and probably more things added, but it was better than it was. But then. Then. I went to send it to Galaxy and I saved it, except I forgot that I opened it from the email attachment she sent it to me and didn't choose save to computer, so saving it did nothing, and I didn't realize it until I already closed Word. ugh. So pissed at myself.

So yeah. Today has not been my day. (Actually, the math test third period went very well, as far as I could tell, so at least there's that. And English is always excellent, when we're not writing essays.)

Ah, speaking of English, today she tried to rush us through what we were learning because she didn't think we'd have time, but we ended up with like... 15-20 min at the end of class (that sounds like a lot, but it was a block period, which is 1 1/2 hours long, so yeah) and she was saying that we should start this other thing she didn't think we'd have time to get to but she said that she didn't want to teach us anymore. So then someone was all of a sudden, "We could watch Colin Firth dive into the lake!" because Mrs. Moore is totally in love with Colin Firth (she has magazine clippings of him on the wall of our English class. It's excellent) and she was all "OH! WE COULD TOTALLY DO THAT!" because she was saying we wouldn't have enough time to finish the whole thing in class, but she wanted to show us that scene, so she did, and it was excellent. I mean, I've already seen it, of course, but it's always excellent seeing it, and Galaxy's never seen the BBC version so she was especially giddy about it. And now on Saturday we're potentially watching all 5 hours of it in a row, since I've only seen it in chunks, never all straight through (and also I think I've become more obsessive since the last time I saw it), provided we can find a time that works for us.

Oh, and also, I wanted to mention, because it'd be appreciated here, that yesterday when everyone came over Zi was one of the people over and he was looking through the DVDs I have up above my TV and then he saw Firefly and was all "...is this? OMG YOU HAVE FIREFLY!!!" And it turns out he's this huge fan of Firefly and loved the show and loved Serenity and everything, and it was hilarious and awesome, because I'm not used to finding people who love shows like Firefly like I do that I haven't forced to watch the show myself. So yeah. It was awesome.

I found myself getting sucked into Lost tonight, which is kind of odd. I haven't been as into it recently. But I don't like Charlie as much as I did back at the beginning of the first season, and that makes me sad.

Ah, dude! The rest of the stuff I ordered on Amazon.com came today, including the Veronica Mars soundtrack! It doesn't even come out until tomorrow! Awesome. :D But oh, man, I really want to read these books now. Stupid school. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend.

All right, so Seher's supposed to send me the outline sometime before 7 PM. Hopefully this will give me enough time to do my other homework, do the thesis and conclusion, and then print 40 copies of it by 8 PM.

Lulu and I are maybe seeing Serenity on Friday night. She has to see if she can go. Otherwise, we'll probably have to leave it to next weekend. Except I'm busy all of Saturday that day (SAT, football game at 1 PM, Green Day concert), so I don't know. =/ Hope we can go Friday.

It needs to be Wednesday at 9 PM, like, right now. Not only because VM premieres then, but my seminar and essay will be over. I'm definitely looking forward to that.

Ah, man. I just watched the last 5 episodes of Firefly. guh. Like, when I first started watching the show, I liked it and all, but I wasn't totally crazy about it. But the second half of the series is just unbelievable. bah, now I'm even more anxious for Serenity (less than a week!). Especially because next week is going to be hell. This is next week's schedule:

Monday: French quiz
Tuesday: Unit test in chemistry
Wednesday: Euro quiz; english unit test and essay
Thursday: chair test (ok, not so bad as I'm the only tenor in Wind Ensemble, but still. I should practice); football game
Friday: Map test in euro; pre-calc ch. 1 test

Yeah, chock full of fun. So, I'm going to be very happy once Friday rolls around.

VM premiere next week too! ee! I can't believe it's so close! :D

Interests meme thing )

Ok, now I need to go make billions of Firefly icons.

Heh, awesome. The thing when I ordered the Firefly DVDs said the approximate arrival would be September 24th, which is this Saturday. Well, guess what just arrived today? heh. I doubt I'll have the time to watch them until Saturday anyways, though, so it's not like it matters much.

Also, I found yet another person who watches Veronica Mars and goes to my school! What are the odds? I was walking to my locker at lunch and I passed Susan Chiang (the girl I found out liked VM yesterday) and Lorraine (...I don't know her last name. But we had French and science together in 8th grade, and we kind of know each other), and they said hi to me and then Lorraine was all "So, you watch Veronica Mars?" Heh. She told me she loved it and was trying to convert people to watching it, and I was all "Oh, well I made my friend Lulu watch all the eps, and I think she made Melissa watch them, but I could be wrong about that" and then they were all "Oh, good, good!" Heh. It was very amusing.

It rained on and off all day, and during 6th period, there was supposedly lightning and thunder (I didn't hear/see it, but the colorguard coach came in and told Mr. Austerman because they were supposed to be practicing inside). So bizarre. I mean, last year it rained tons more than normal, but I don't think it started this early. I love the rain, though, so I don't mind.

New Gilmore Girls, House, Supernatural, and Bones tonight! Bones I won't have time to watch, so I guess I'll leave it tomorrow. But tomorrow's the premiere of Lost, isn't it? blah. I should have more time tomorrow, though, because the classes I get less homework in are on Thursday, so I should have less work to do. I love block schedule. It is such a lifesaver.

Edit: Duh, how could I forget? Well I didn't earlier, but after I gave you the drawing thing of Brian/Justin, it left my mind. Anyways. Happy birthday Lulu ([livejournal.com profile] violetmist2003)! Hope you enjoyed the lovely Brian and Justin making out for you from 308. Justin does too have a mouth, btw! It's just... hidden! >:O

Me: [to mom] I wanted to check the balance on my debit card, 'cause I also just pre-ordered something else, and--
Dad: What did you pre-order?
Me: The soundtrack to Veronica Mars.
Dad: Veronica Mars?
Me: [defensively] It has really great music!
Dad: Name something.
Me: You know that song "We Used to be Friends"? It's by the Dandy Warhols, and it came up twice on my iPod to and from Mammoth last spring, and both of you said you liked it several times?
Dad: ...yeah?
Me: It's the theme song.
Dad: Oh. Well, ok, then.

...heh. That amused me. Yeah, so, for a little while I was hesitant about using the card, because like... half of me wants to use it all at once, so the other half is all "NO DON'T USE ANYTHING NOW OR YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO STOP", but I finally ended up buying the first season of Firefly on DVD. This is because I don't want to have to wait too long after Serenity comes out to see it, and downloading it's annoying. Plus, I've been meaning to buy the set since I saw the first episode, but ever since I started watching it, the set has completely disappeared from Barnes and Noble. Then after I ordered that, I started putting together a wishlist and marking what I already own, and then Veronica Mars soundtrack came up, so I instantly pre-ordered that. So, yay for new stuff! Firefly S1 should arrive next Saturday, it says, which is good, because then I can watch the last few eps I haven't seen yet that night and Serenity comes out the following weekend. Perfect timing.

I watched the pilot of Head Cases tonight, and I really liked it. Unfortunately, it's up against both Lost and Veronica Mars, so I'm going to be resigned to downloading it. Oh well.
brokenrecord: (Default)
After I posted, I found out that the SciFi network was going to air Firefly from the pilot starting tonight from 6-8. I've only seen up to episode 6 (I think it's 6. It's the Jaynestown episode.) and the first one I saw was Train Job, I never saw the actual 2-hour pilot, so I watched that. It was really good (...and makes more sense starting from there than Train Job). And, plus, Serenity trailer! Wheee! It was awesome. Now I just need to get a friend into Firefly so I won't have to go see Serenity alone. ...hey, Lulu? Want to watch the full season of Firefly and then be dragged to see Serenity with me? :)

After that I watched the first 4 eps of season 2 of Arrested Development. If I had a Nielson box, I probably would've watched Veronica Mars, but what I watched had absolutely no affect on the ratings (not that AD doesn't need better ratings also) and I've seen the pilot and An Echolls Family Christmas (and all VM eps, actually) about 5 times now, and I've only seen season 2 of AD once. So, I chose to watch that. The first 3 episodes were great, but... man, the fourth, Good Grief, is fucking awesome. Like, the other episodes are really good, but Good Grief is even more hilarious. I missed AD. It's so nice watching AD episodes again, even if I have already seen them before.

While I was watching these shows, Dead Like Me season 1 finally finished downloading! I watched the second episode already. Ah, I love this show. :D I'll probably stay up pretty late watching it. It's an awesome show, and I want to see more of it.

Lastly, while I was watching Firefly, the bobcats came out! I got loads of pictures of them. Bobcat Picspam )

All right, I suppose that's it. I guess I'll stay up and watch more Dead Like Me, now.
