HOLY CRAP GUY PEARCE IS AUSTRALIAN? ...this is kind of random. But I was watching the BAFTAs red carpet and all of a sudden there was Guy Pearce and he's Australian! I suppose I've only seen him in Memento (l;kjsfd AMAZING MOVIE and he's excellent in it, so if you haven't seen it, you must. One of my all-time favorite films) and the 10 minutes he was in The Hurt Locker, so there's no reason why I would know he's Australian, but still.

Also, oh man, they were so horribly annoying when it came to A Single Man. First one of the women asked Tom Ford (the director) about Colin Firth getting in touch with his feminine side during the film, and... what? No. He's gay, but he's definitely not feminine in the slightest, so I find it really rather offensive to assume just because he's playing a gay man means he's feminine in the film. Tom Ford was excellent in responding, though, and was pretty much like "No, he wasn't feminine in the film, but he was brilliant." Then Colin Firth came up and a different person was talking to him, and he was like "SO HOW WAS IT FOR YOU TO PLAY A GAY GUY FOR THE FIRST TIME HAHA?" and Colin Firth was like "...uh, one of the first roles I played was a gay man, and I played a gay man in Mamma Mia just a year ago" and then I forget what happened exactly after that but I distinctly remembered him saying that Matthew Goode was an excellent kisser, which was awesome. Oh Colin Firth, I am remembering why I fell in love with you so hard and fast when I was 16 (my LJ layout was of him even for a few months!). Please keep choosing awesome roles like A Single Man and stop taking roles like The Accidental Husband and Mamma Mia.

Anyways, I have loads of work to do for the next 3 days (a major assignment Monday that should take me several hours, and 2 major assignments and an exam on Wednesday), which really sucks. I would rather it be more spread out this week, but I suppose it'll be nice once it's Wednesday afternoon and I can relax (at least until the weekend, where I'll have to do a bunch more work, since the next few weeks are terrible). But of course instead of spending time doing my schoolwork, like I should, I've been watching the BAFTAs red carpet (obviously), and I will be watching the BATAs awards when they air, the Olympics (heh I know I said last Sunday I wouldn't watch it at all, but only a few hours after I said that the opportunity to watch it presented itself, so I did, and now I'm all into it. I'm not watching everything though, only really speed skating, figure skating, and snowboarding), and I've been watching this 10-part BBC documentary on Netflix Instant Watch about birds. Which seems random, but I've mentioned before, I love birds (this is what happens when you have had pet birds since you were 6 years old), and it was recommended to me by Netflix, and I find it super interesting. Plus, it discusses evolution fairly frequently, and it spent some time on this bird I'm doing a group project on for my evolution class, so I can watch it and feel less guilty for it than when I'm watching just like a random movie or TV show or whatever because it's kind of like schoolwork.

I should now maybe do some work before the BAFTAs actually start because it'll definitely be harder for me to get stuff done by the time those start.

ugh. So, the thing I worked on with Galaxy and Arjun on Sunday, it's this ghost scene from Pride and Prejudice for English. And on Sunday, Arjun was all "Give what we have so far to me, I'll type it up and add stuff and then send it to one of you and you can add stuff" and so on. Well, I came up with the "We can pass it around and add stuff", but he volunteered to type and add first. So he sent it to Galaxy on Monday, and it was crap. I'm sorry. But everything he wrote was completely out of character and he changed so much stuff that we had already written, and it was just very bad. So Galaxy tried to fix it and add stuff back and we asked him for the original we wrote just because "we wanted to see something" (i.e. change everything back to how it was) and then this afternoon I started changing stuff and I edited everything closer to how it was and I edited later stuff as well and I was pretty pleased with how it was. It needed editing still and probably more things added, but it was better than it was. But then. Then. I went to send it to Galaxy and I saved it, except I forgot that I opened it from the email attachment she sent it to me and didn't choose save to computer, so saving it did nothing, and I didn't realize it until I already closed Word. ugh. So pissed at myself.

So yeah. Today has not been my day. (Actually, the math test third period went very well, as far as I could tell, so at least there's that. And English is always excellent, when we're not writing essays.)

Ah, speaking of English, today she tried to rush us through what we were learning because she didn't think we'd have time, but we ended up with like... 15-20 min at the end of class (that sounds like a lot, but it was a block period, which is 1 1/2 hours long, so yeah) and she was saying that we should start this other thing she didn't think we'd have time to get to but she said that she didn't want to teach us anymore. So then someone was all of a sudden, "We could watch Colin Firth dive into the lake!" because Mrs. Moore is totally in love with Colin Firth (she has magazine clippings of him on the wall of our English class. It's excellent) and she was all "OH! WE COULD TOTALLY DO THAT!" because she was saying we wouldn't have enough time to finish the whole thing in class, but she wanted to show us that scene, so she did, and it was excellent. I mean, I've already seen it, of course, but it's always excellent seeing it, and Galaxy's never seen the BBC version so she was especially giddy about it. And now on Saturday we're potentially watching all 5 hours of it in a row, since I've only seen it in chunks, never all straight through (and also I think I've become more obsessive since the last time I saw it), provided we can find a time that works for us.

Oh, and also, I wanted to mention, because it'd be appreciated here, that yesterday when everyone came over Zi was one of the people over and he was looking through the DVDs I have up above my TV and then he saw Firefly and was all "...is this? OMG YOU HAVE FIREFLY!!!" And it turns out he's this huge fan of Firefly and loved the show and loved Serenity and everything, and it was hilarious and awesome, because I'm not used to finding people who love shows like Firefly like I do that I haven't forced to watch the show myself. So yeah. It was awesome.

I found myself getting sucked into Lost tonight, which is kind of odd. I haven't been as into it recently. But I don't like Charlie as much as I did back at the beginning of the first season, and that makes me sad.

I finished both Bridget Jones books last night. I liked them both a lot, more than the movies (why couldn't the whole bit with Mark's line "It's all right. I realize I'm here. I don't think it's the sort of thing we should be keeping from each other," be put in the movie? I couldn't stop giggling over that line. And there were many others like that that I had wished had made it into the movie). And yeah, the second movie is nearly nothing like the book. But there are some things about the movies that I like more than the books. Anyways, I'm glad I bought the books.

I also watched Love Actually with the commentary on. hee. I love Hugh Grant just constantly bashing Colin Firth. They need to do a movie together (preferably involving many scenes with them fighting each other) and do a commentary on the movie together, because that would be excellent.

All Southern auditions tomorrow. I don't know how likely it is I'll make it, but oh well. Nothing more I can do than make sure all my scales are memorized.

School starts up again on Monday, and then I have two weeks and then it's finals. Eck. I wish my school was more like other schools and had finals right before winter break. It's such a hassle to be learning all this stuff, then take two weeks off, and then have to remember everything you learned before break in addition to learning bunch a new stuff for two weeks and then have to study your ass off. Especially since my grades are so borderline this year (well, ok, half my grades are. But I don't want half my grades to be B's), so I really need to ace some of my finals. I miss freshman year. sigh.

New layout because I am obsessed. [livejournal.com profile] brokenrecord__. I've been wanting a new layout for like a month but I haven't really been... into anything enough to make anything, I guess. Don't know how long this will last because it's kind of different from what I usually have, but I like it for now.

Anyways, today consisted of not doing much. I did practice my audition music some more and I think my music actually might go all right. I'm fucked for the scales, but last year when they asked me for one scale I played several notes from an entirely different scale before being all "er. Wait. No. Let me try again." and even then I still messed it up. And I still ended up getting in. So, I think the music's more important than the scales. We'll see. I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I also read Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down today, and it was excellent. I want to read more of his stuff.

Tomorrow I may be doing something with Emma and Mukul and possibly other people? We're not very good at working out the details. But I assume it will happen. I want to try to get us to see Brokeback Mountain, because I think Emma is actually interested in seeing it, and I think it would be fun to force Mukul to see it. Hey, there's more man-on-woman sex than man-on-man sex! I think we could convince him with that. And at some point, I really need to go to the animal shelter. sigh.

Happy New Years to everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful New Years Eve and have a wonderful year. :) I spent last night at Emma's house. Soan was there at the beginning and we all watched the second Bridget Jones Diary movie and I haven't seen the first, but I really enjoyed the second anyways. And Hugh Grant and Colin Firth! This just amuses me incredibly because of seeing Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice and Hugh Grant in Sense and Sensibility, although I'm not sure why it amuses me as much as it does. And now I desperately want to see the first because I hear it's better and I was also promised by Emma and Soan that the first one has a much better fight scene. So yes. I think I might go to Blockbuster and rent it today along with Love Actually, which I've been meaning to rent for like a month now.

Anyways, after that Soan had to go soon so we saw Nightmare Before Christmas because it was shorter and she left and then Emma and I saw the BBC Pride and Prejudice. We started it about 2 hours in because we both had seen the beginning and we stopped it for when it became midnight and then actually managed to finish it and somewhere along the night I became incredibly obsessed with Colin Firth (as opposed to just really, really liking him, and I'm not exactly sure how that happened but it did) and now need to see more movies with him in it. And then we began to watch some of Monty Python but we were tired of watching movies so Emma got out one of the things she's giving me for my birthday and we somehow managed to play with it for 2 hours and I'm not sure how that happened but by then it was 4 and we went to sleep. And yeah, tired now, which I think you can probably tell from how many run-on sentences exist in this post.

So yeah. In any case, it was a fun night. And now I need to get lunch and possibly go to Blockbuster if I can ever find my Blockbuster card. I'll catch up on comments eventually. And I should also practice for All Southern considering the audition is Saturday and the last time I played bass clarinet was 2 months ago. I'm not sure that this audition is going to go very well. We'll see.
