WAIT WAIT WAIT. MERLIN SEASON 2 IS PREMIERING THIS SATURDAY? IS THIS INFORMATION RIGHT? HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS? Oh man, it's been so long since season 1! I'm so excited! :D

I totally failed to mention that last weekend I read all of the Vampire Diaries books, and so now I have random thoughts about the show versus the books and about last night's episode.

Oh god the Stefan/Elena dialogue on the show is entirely ridiculous. The dialogue in the books gets pretty ridiculous between them, too, especially after Elena dies and then comes back and all that. It's a little less ridiculous at the beginning of the series.

BUT DAMON. DAMON!!! His scene with Elena was AWESOME (and I don't even know if I ship them, but he's just so interesting!). And him mocking Stefan for going back to high school. I love Damon in the books, but I might love him even more on the show. I'm just concerned about what they'll do with his character. In the books, pretty much the only murder he's blamed for that he actually commits is of Mr. Tanner, and that's in self-defense. But here it looks like he did at least attack Vicki. But it should be Katherine! So I'm confused. Are they going for a major mislead and aren't going to pay attention to continuity, or are they going to explain it some other way, or are they making Damon responsible? blah. It's not that I have a problem with him feeding off people (I'm under no illusion that he cares about humans other than Elena, Bonnie, and maybe Meredith a little). But I don't understand the point of making it him. And I don't want them to make him worse than he is, you know? I don't want him to be totally made a villain. I find his shades of grey SO much more fascinating, and I don't want him to be 100% pure evil.

MATT. I love him in the books. I like him on the show, but I'm really looking forward to Matt and Stefan's epic bromance. I'm hoping he doesn't stay totally jealous of Stefan forever and they become friends. And Stefan needs to try out for the football team.

I like their new aunt. Not sure about the different sibling. I liked him when I saw the first episode, but after reading the books I'm just like "HOW DOES HE FIT IN TO ALL THIS? WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN? I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON." Also with Zach. Stefan's his uncle? So... is he Damon's kid? Or... great great great grandchild? Meaning Damon had a kid at some point? Or maybe a descendant of Katherine? Or... descendant of a sibling of Katherine's? That would make more sense. Although would he call Stefan his uncle if that were the case? ugh I don't know. And I don't like not knowing! I read the books; I should know everything that's going on in the show now!

When is Meredith showing up? I don't like really, really love her or anything, but it's weird that she's not around. It's also weird that they're still hanging out with Caroline and Tyler.

I like that the show deals more with Elena losing her parents. It really has barely been a factor in the books other than explaining why she's with her aunt. I also might like Elena more on the show. It's hard to say. She's kind of a bitch and self-centered in the first few books, and after she becomes all spirit-y she's... weird. But I like her on the show. She seems more down-to-earth. Elena's obsession with Stefan in the books is just weird at the beginning. It's like "WHAT HE'S SCORNING ME WTF OK I WILL DIE TRYING TO GET HIS ATTENTION." I also like Stefan's attitude towards her more on the show. In the books he's way too "I WANT ELENA BUT NOOOO I MUSTN'T!" and on the show he's like "Yeah, I like her. I'm going to pursue her!" And they actually like... talk to each other about what they're feeling rather than pining for ages and ages. ...Their relationship still bores me, though.

HOLY CRAP DAMON/CAROLINE AT THE END OF 1.02 WHAT? ALSO WHAT WHAT WHAT HIM ATTACKING HER? THIS IS NOT HOW THE BOOKS GO DAMMIT. STOP MAKING HIM TOO EVIL. I DON'T WANT HIM TO BE 100% GOOD, BUT I DON'T WANT THIS EITHER. ugh this better turn out well.

I also watched the premiere of The Beautiful Life.
...I kind of enjoyed The Beautiful Life. I don't know, apparently I have a need for trashy, superficial, teen CW dramas! I'm watching like all of them now except for OTH (which I gave up after the first 6 or so episodes when the first season first aired when it wasn't even the CW) and Melrose Place (that is a show that I have no interest in trying and will be staying away from until people start raving about it. Although I do have a slight urge to watch it for Katie Cassidy, but I don't care THAT much). Mischa Barton can't act and some of the dialogue was really bad, but... I'm intrigued! I'm kind of enjoying that there aren't bitter, fierce rivalries between all the models! It was a happy surprise! I was expecting everyone to hate everyone, and yeah, everyone's out for themself for the most part, but... even Mischa Barton's character wasn't that upset with the main girl (I don't remember any of these characters names) for taking her place, she was just more upset at her situation in general, I guess. I don't know. And the girls aren't all back-stabbing bitches (yet)! I like that! And the main guy is pretty cute and isn't totally bland. (...and I might ship him a little with that guy who he was sent to who was all "I refuse to have any roommates!" and kept teasing him about being Simon's new boy, or whatever. I don't know why, but they kind of had chemistry together! I'm so ridiculous. I'll probably drop it if school gets to hectic, or I'll let episodes pile up and won't get through them for weeks, but I'm keeping it for now.

Even with the amount of complaining I did in my last post about the workload, I've decided to make it even worse. I'm probably going to be volunteering on Saturdays and maybe also Sundays from 9 AM to noon at this homeless shelter in St. Paul. I'd be reading, tutoring, and talking with kids, mostly. I enjoy tutoring and reading aloud and stuff like that, so I think it would be good. It's with the psych department here, so I will probably be able to go in a van with people, so transportation isn't an issue. And I should've volunteered or done something last summer, so this is to kind of make up for that so I can maybe get some sort of internship next semester or over the summer. I mean, it's not for sure yet since I've only just e-mailed the guy to express interest in it and he's e-mailed me back to give info. If I do start going, it'll probably be as soon as next week. I'm hoping since it's on Saturday and Sunday mornings that it won't cut into schoolwork time too much since I'd probably just be sleeping through most of that time anyways.

I haven't talked much about my living situation since school started, but things are going very well. I'm getting along with everyone, which is good, and I'm getting to know one of the girls who I hadn't met before moving in a lot better. Her workload is even more ridiculous than mine, though. She had a 6-page paper due last Monday plus a bunch of other smaller papers, and we haven't even been in school a week yet. Remind me not to double major in Chemistry and Biology. I think I might finally post pictures of the apartment this weekend, in addition to maybe finally posting pictures of my dorm room last year (for comparison to how much more amazing where I'm living this year is) and from my trip back home in May and back to Minnesota in August.

I love Damon, I've never read the books, but I really hope that they don't turn him into a complete bad guy. That would make me mad >:(

But I fully agree with you on Elena and Stefan's dilogue. Its like: 'Srsly? Why so lame you two?' I hope it gets better, 'cause I only have two shows I'm truly dedicated to (Sons of Anarchy and Supernatural) and I decided to give this show a go, since I've realized that I need more things to look foward to during the week :D

I know! He's so much more interesting when he's all morally gray rather than making him a complete bad guy. There are plenty of completely good and completely evil vampires on various shows; I like him being in-between!

I know, there were some lines where I was like "...seriously? Would any teenager EVER say this?" I'm actually really enjoying the show (pretty much entirely because of Damon), so if it doesn't get any better, I don't really care, but if they're trying to get me invested in Stefan/Elena, they're failing miserably.
